While Changi City Point may seem far flung, this haven in the eastern part of Singapore is easily accessible with affordable shopping and a big selection of food outlets.
We have a special liking for The Oasis, a world of its own with four restaurants enclosed in lush greenery. During the afternoon, it is charming and peaceful, and after the sun sets, it takes a different mood with live music for diners to relax and chill out to. A perfect setting to unwind in after a hard day at work, or to head to for a family meal on weekends.
For American style ribs and lava cake dessert
Lavaedge has quite an extensive menu, with offerings that are suitable for lunches and post-work indulgences, not forgetting its signature dessert, the warm chocolate lava cake ($10.80). Portions are huge, such as the barbecue babyback pork ribs with grilled corn, coleslaw and steakhouse fries on the side, topped with a specially homemade sauce. You can also choose to eat al fresco, which is serene enough to chase away the work blues.

For New Zealander beer and grilled meats
This restaurant-bar's story started with the owner wanting to bring quality craft beer to Singapore, and the New Zealand’s Moa Brewing Company was born. Other than award-winning beers and fine wines from New Zealand, Moa New Zealand Bar & Grill serves continental cuisine and bar bites such as burgers, pizzas, pasta and seafood. We thoroughly enjoyed the grilled lamb rack ($33), which is fork-tender and intensely tasty.

For $5 house pours and Japanese-style bites
Modelled after 300 yen bars and tachinomi izakaya (drinking while standing up), Five’s unique selling point is that it offers $5 food and house pour specials all day. That is really a bargain. There are bigger dishes sold in multiples of $5, such as the Caesar salad ($10) with Japanese-style chicken skewers and soft-boiled eggs. Come night time, there is live music too.

For European bistro food with designer cocktails
The first thing you may notice at Table Manners is the tables — elongated in a zigzag manner, a bit like those in a school canteen. This bistro is suitable for communal dining, and wins top points in design and humour. The food looks simple, but packs a punch. We swooned over the truffle capellini with organic egg ($19), which when tossed together, is full of truffle fragrance. The designer cocktails, such as the strawberry shortcake cocktail, reminded us of a Korean pop princess, all pretty and sweet.
