I was exploring the newly opened Mandarin Gallery the other day when I chanced upon a rustic and cosy looking restaurant named Wild Honey. It is a new dining concept offering an all day breakfast menu inspired by global cuisines.
With over 16 types of breakfasts to choose from, my dining partner and I finally narrowed down to five after much deliberation. We started off with ‘Japanese’ (salmon tamago balls with sushi rice) and ‘Belgium’ (waffles with fresh mango and mascarpone). I really liked the ‘Japanese’ and I think it makes a good healthy dish for lunch or dinner. As for the ‘Belgium’, it can also be a nice dessert, if not for breakfast.
Up next were ‘Scandinavian’ (grilled salmon with rosti and asparagus), ‘Mexican’ (burritos) and ‘Tunisian’ (hot pan with eggs, potatoes, tomatoes served with toasted brioche). I thought that the salmon dish and burritos are more suited for lunch or dinner, while the ‘Tunisian’ makes a good weekend brunch. The delicious brioche baked on-site using a secret family recipe, deserves special mention. The brioche is available for sale if you wish to take a loaf home.
Do also try the unique beverage offerings which use honey as a main ingredient. I liked the ‘Queen Bee’, a refreshing drink made with fresh grapefruit juice and honey. The next time you need a break while shopping at Mandarin Gallery, why not rest your weary feet at this homely restaurant and order a breakfast treat… anytime of the day! Prices for the main breakfast dishes are between $18 and $24.
