Malaysia is famous for its tasty street food such as the dark and lard-rich KL Hokkien mee, Penang char koay teow, Melacca chicken rice ball and many more. However, we often have to travel across the causeway in order to savour these yummy hawker dishes. But now, you can get your fix of Malaysian street food under one roof — Resorts World Sentosa!
Resorts World Sentosa’s Malaysian Food Street is a new food court concept that’s designed to look and feel like you are dining on the streets of Malaysia. The Malaysian Food Street features 17 food stalls selling a myriad of hawker food. Nine out of the 17 stalls were handpicked from Kuala Lumpur and Penang, so diners get the very best from these regions.
Our favourite was Ah Mei Hokkien Prawn Mee ($5 and $6 with pork ribs). What made this dish stand out was the rich broth which has been boiled for hours using stir-fried crushed prawn shell, pork bones and ground dried chilli. The spicy broth was a real treat for seafood lovers with its rich, briny flavours. In fact it was so good we slurped up every drop of the soup.

Another famous stall is Huen Kee Claypot Chicken Rice ($6 and $7 with salted fish) from Kuala Lumpur. Cooked over a charcoal stove, the dish comprised of tender chicken pieces, rice with dark soya sauce, Chinese sausage (lap cheong) and salted fish (optional). What differentiates this claypot rice from the local version is the burning charcoal placed on top of the claypot. This helps to retain the moisture and flavours of the rice. Unlike any other claypot rice we’ve had in Singapore, the rice was not overly burnt at the bottom of the pot. So if you prefer the charred bits in your claypot rice, this version may not be for you.
Huen Kee claypot chicken rice
If you have a sweet tooth, the Penang chendol ($2.50) is a must-have. This delicious dessert consists of a bowl of shaved ice topped with sweet red beans, homemade chendol jelly (made from green bean flour and pandan leaves), fresh coconut milk and gula merah (palm sugar). The sweetness of the chendol was just right, and the ice shavings on the chendol were smooth.
Other famous hawker stalls making their first foray outside of Malaysia include Penang Ah Long Lor Bak, Penang Lim Brothers’ Char Koay Teow, Penang Hai Beng Hainan Lor Mee, Petaling Street Famous Porridge since 1949, KL’s Jalan Alor Hokkien Mee, as well as Fung Wong Confectionery which sells freshly baked egg tarts, kaya puffs and char siew bao.
