For Belgian beer and mussels
The mussels house from Robertson Quay have set up shop here – another waterfront spot, and an equally lovely place to kick back with a Belgian beer, or two, or 120 (varieties). To fill the stomach, there is moules frites (mussels with fries, $20 for 350g, $40 for 750g); meat-lovers can go for the Toast Cannibal (steak tartare on toast, $14); and light eaters should try the salade de crabe (guacamole spread on toast topped with king crab and tomato salad, $14). Everyone should gaze out at the quay while there. We like it better than Robertson Quay. Sorry, RQ!

For a caffeine fix while the children play
Kith Cafe’s most scenic outlet is here (others are at Robertson Quay and Park Mall) and features its own house-blend coffee ($4-$5.50) and espresso-based beverages ($5.50-$8.50). One of Quayside’s more affordable eateries, the lightwood-and-dark-metal-lined cafe offers an extensive range of breakfast items till 5pm. Try the pork belly fried eggs ($20) or the vegetarian breakfast (a plateful of grilled veggies, $16) for a healthier option. It even has an outdoor play area with toys for the little ones.

For grab-and-go gourmet goods
This is the place to head to when you want to browse and buy organic wines, oils, vinegars and other gourmet delicacies from Southern France. Planning a soiree? Pair your breads with the artichoke and sundried tomato tapenade (a Provencal dish of pureed or finely chopped olives, capers, anchovies and olive oil, 100g for $9.90; 200g for $18.90) and L'Olivier olive oil ($19.50). Or go the whole hog with a preserved truffle product (truffle carpaccio, 50g for $48) and a bottle of wine (the Prosecco Spumante Terre gaie, $48). Your guests will leave (and stay) happy.

For brunch that offers pizzas
Bukit Timah’s brunch haunt, Picotin, has an express outlet at Quayside Isle that does both dine-in and takeaway. Picotin Express features the original outlet's bestselling hot dishes, such as the beef bourguignon ($30), plus a few new ones. You can’t go wrong with its selection of eleven 12-inch pizzas ($22 each). Of the 11, 10 are for in-house dining (the peperoni is only for takeaway). Try the tomato, mozzarella with chilli crab meat, or the more exotic yogurt, mozzarella and tandoori chicken with onions and coriander. Nightbirds, take note: it is open till late, although the takeaway service stops at 9.30pm for last orders. The unpleasant bit: the menu states that there is service charge for takeaways.

For tapas by the sea
This is the breezy sister outlet of the original Sabio on Duxton Hill. Laidback, spacious, airy and equally quirky (you have to see the zebra heads), this Spanish tapas bar is the place to go for light bites, grilled food and cocktails. With its specially flown-in charcoal oven from Spain, Sabio grills up our favourite pulpo a la gallega (octopus tentacle cooked in paprika, olive oil and lemon, served with purple mashed, $15), the esparrago (grilled asparagus with ham and egg, $16) and the regulars' favourite el cerdo (marinated pig shoulder, $21). These pair well with the Sabio red or white sangria ($10 a glass).
