Ok everyone, please tell me where is the best mee pok in town! Doesn't matter if its bak chor mee (minced pork noodles) or fishball noodles...the noodles and sauce must be good!
best used to be this old man at tiong bahru. not the market but the corner shop house where they sell the famous hainese curry rice. unfortunately, the old man don't know go where but the guy that took over is not bad. this is teochew style bak chor mee which some of you might not be used to. more vinegar.
tiong bahru that one sells shredded chicken hor fun too is it? near a kia hiang restaurant? there's a stall at woodlands 888 kopitiam that sells good mee pok, even without chilli. they have fried dumpling and meatballs to go with the noodles too! this one gives little pork lard though (:
Haha, I like the one about pork lard! I think its impt to have good, crispy pork lard in mee pok, Haha! Anymore suggestions?

This is interesting. HungryGoWhere has finally gotten a forum. Good start with this mee pok thread - will be interesting to find out where the best hawker foods in Singapore are.....and speaking of which, why not start more on other hawker food?
Hi Crazy In Love, welcome to this new forum! Actually you can start a discussion thread by yourself. After logging in, just click on the orange "Start a New Discussion" and you can get started from there. Don't discuss different food types in the same discussion - best to create a new one for each dish. More organised that way....thanks!

Hi DG, thanks for the heads up. Will do just that. Let me know where is your favourite mee pok!
My favourite mee pok has got to be this place at Hong Lim Food Centre, called Ah Kow Minced Pork Noodles. So its a bak chor mee. There is this old man with his brother - both learnt the trade from their dad who started the mee pok business in the 1940s. What I really like about this mee pok is the way the noodles are cooked - very springy and texture is perfect. The sauce is wonderfully simple but yet delicious - the secret is that they add all these mushrooms stewed with pork (its a fragrant black sauce - colour from the mushrooms), you know, I really cannot describe it in words how good that tastes!
More importantly, despite their immense popularity (just look at the stickers all over the stall and the crazily long queues), they are still actually quite nice (i.e. relatively polite!).....do you know how rare that is in Singapore! Successful hawkers who are still polite! Many I have seen have pissed me off so much with their attitude that I don't even want to go back!
So yes, my favourite mee pok place!.....don't go during lunchtime or dinnertime (i think they open from around 11am to 7pm, not sure when is their off day though), best to go in between.....be warned, the queue IS crazy during the peak hours!
I actually know that Hong Lim mee pok place as well....its very famous. Hong Lim food center is next to Chinatown point. Its a 2-storey hawker center. You can't miss it once you get to Chinatown point. Hope this is useful!
Actually got a good fish ball noodle place at Ghim Moh market. It's just diagonally opposite the famous Char Kway Teow place (which I don't think is that great). They hand make their own fishballs. It's amazing that there is no Q! Best...
cook by teochews, many big fish balls, noodles and fried lard, and chilli = traditional??? hahaha...what meant is its simple, no additional garnishing... try it ...
Right inside Jalan Tua Kong (siglap) opposite blooie's there is a decent one. Not like best lah but generally popular with people in the area. Worth at least a shot if you like the one outside by the main road.
here are 3 very good mee pok (all got very fragrant pork lard)
1. coffee shop at blk 116 bukit merah view - soup is very good, chilli shiok
2. margaret drive food centre (the one at the corner, not the one in the middle row) - mee pok dry, very well done (note: was closed when i went there a few times, wonder still selling)
3. L shape market at Havelock Road - order the kway teow dry, teochew taste
2weeks ago the corner shop at margaret drive still open but it was closed when I was there yesterday. I wanted to try this corner shop as it seems to have a following.
The middle row shop also has its own following, anyway I will try to drop by later to check if its open and update.
Actually it is not a market but 2 rows of hawker centre joining at the end to look like alphapet L. I used to live there and people there used to call it L shape market. I have just checked streetmap.gov.sg, the address is blk 22B havelock road. There is big open carpark infront, very convenient , can see your car and need not tear coupon (if you are driving)
DG..name of that mee pok place @ toa payoh is Song Kee Fishball Noodles, I think...always long queues cos the noodles are really tasty...& bouncy fishballs too!
wah!!! i wan my margaret drive fishball meepok!!!...went there on tuesday and wednesday, and both stalls were closed on both days!!! what???? is there some celebration or sth??? Fishball DAY izzit??
hahaha...never trust food court food! I still prefer hawker centre or food centre(whatever u call it)...I'm gonna try Margaret Drive later this evening again! Die Die must have!
hey Cg(Cy) n Mn, I will miss tonight dinner, need to go sch to settle some admin stuff b4 the exams...haiz.... brain is still empty....err more like full of dreams instead of study information....
i recommend.. - chai chee noodle village, a stall in parkway parade's treats foodcourt - jia xiang kuching restaurant (has qt a number of branches in sg, incl vivo, marina square and more i cant rmb)
JW, u shd try the margaret drive meepok, its so near ur plc, n the claypot rice on top...good good! but lacking in salted fish...if he puts more ...will be one of the top 3 in spore
come to think of it, most noodles stalls r supplied by the same few noodle manufacturer/wholesalers. the difference in the texture/feeling when it enters the mouth... i suppose boils down to how its done in the cooking process.
not that i'm biased, bt i think many teochew stall holders make pretty neat fishball/mushroom+shredded chicken/minced pork noodles... especially when they sprinkle black vinegar in the sauce. aromatic i reckon.
