I recommend the Blackforest cake from Classic Cakes & Pine garden. cheaper than town prices.
not too much cream and generous cherries. chocolate sponge is not too sweet, soft and fluffy.

Hi ladyironchef, blackforest cakes aren't supposed to have any blueberries in them, only cherries or griottines.

Blackforest cake is my favourite of all cakes, but I have not had a decent on in 20 years! Still searching..

Another favourite is the Strawberry Shortcake (the cake) which really just hinges on 1) soft moist sponge 2) fresh strawberries 3) really fresh cream!

Japanese influenced cakes are my favourite as they always taste so light and etheral. Cafe Rosso used to be a favourite but it has since closed.

Oh well, at least my mum and I are planning a trip to Tokyo just for the cakes! Yipee!

      CommentAuthorgalinusa (CommentTimeFeb 14th 2008)

Cc, have you tried Canele's strawberry shortcake?

Oh do try Sadaharu Aoki when you are in Tokyo. I love the Japanese take on French cakes.
  4.
Again, Pine garden cake in AMK has one of the better Blackforest cake in Singapore. gotta try it if you are a fan.

Galinusa - yes! I have tried Canele's strawberry shortcake, and I rank it with Bakerzin as the top 2 in Singapore

Canele: Love the lightness of the sponge and fresh creamy taste
Bazkerzin: Slightly sweeter but pleasantly so

PC - Thanks for the tip but the blackforest cake at Pine Garden is not what I was looking for, but at the price it is better than most. Unfortunately, they do not use fresh cream and the cherries were not soaked in kirsch.

The search has been going on too long... and I still haven't found....... what I am looking for...

can we use tofu to make cake, instead of eggs?
    •
      CommentAuthoriheartbread (CommentTimeFeb 18th 2008)

JW - yes you can, apparently vegetarians use tofu as egg substitutes. I do not know how this would affect the texture of the cake though.

Perhaps you could try the Japanese tofu cheesecake, offered at Sun with Moon Japanese Dining & Café (Chijmes, Wheelock Place).
  5.

i love oreo cheesecake! =) the one from cottage pies @ white sands shopping centre is cheap and delicious! (i bought it for $2.80 last yr, dunno if the price has been increased now)

but i don't like the oreo cheesecake from the royals cos the amt of oreos in the cake is way too little! i can see a few oreo crumbs but somehow i can't taste them at all...

i love coffee bean's cheesecake with toblerone, but they no longer sell it... =(
