    Hi Anne

that's a very flattering suggestion, but these are my thoughts :)

    - everyone's profile should be featured once a week (maybe have a benchmark of at least 20 reviews)

hmm how big is this outing? :P if its real big, does this mean its as good as booking the entire rstnt? haha!

Melben gets really crowded for sure, even on week nights! From no queue system to a queue system now. Before the queue system kicked in, I tried to reserve a table at melben but I was refused. Was told its first-come-first-served. :( Its been a long long time since I had been to Melben.
  1.
Ice, Canton Wok can skip...=P the last time I went all party of 6 felt the food was way overrated. Its an expensive aircon Tze Char and nothing more. But the place is often crowded so maybe just me and my gang...

Sorry, don't know where to post this so hijack this thread a bit....hehehe paiseh ice

DG can i suggest that the forum have a cover page that list all the categories of discussion first.
So like the main page will be the categories page.
    Singapore food
    Just for laughs
    KL food
    How to improve HGW
    etc...

As for "singapore food" maybe it can be easier if it is split into Hawker fares & restaurants (or any other levels but put them on an flat hierarchy). It will be easier to zoom in on a click through search.

Have a tcss category instead of call it "others" very odd and ambiguous. I think most of us here can take our conversations to this section and only post in the makan categories when we have something valuable to post.

I think coming up with the information architecture for the whole forum is the key right now.... I am not trying to tell you how to do a website hor...just giving you the perspective from a IA student...=)

how abt a food crawl instead of a pub crawl???? hmmm can start at seah st deli, ms clarity, chin chin, thai food, beef noodles, keep on going till we reach the dessert shop opp bugis (can never remember the name of the st and shop)...we can share food so that we get to eat more types by crawling to more places.

hey DG, u might want to check out this two forums for examples of forum posting headings and setttings

ying ji has raised a good question - what is everyone's budget?

These are currently the people on my list:

Panerai, JW, PG, MN, ice, puglet, SC, LIC, Jerry, cloudgal, galinusa

11 so far. I might have missed out more, if I did, my deepest apologies, please include your name in this discussion thread now so that I can plan our first makan session together! :cheer:

And for the 11 above, please let me know your budget per person - thanks!

 you mean you would pay like $200 plus even if it were a good restaurant. come on lets be a little more realistic n put in a number...numbers are better to work with. for me...less than $80 for the whole day trip

CommentAuthorpicky gourmet (CommentTimeFeb 18th 2008 edited)

    DG,

Ok, i think as far as budget goes nothing more than $60/pax (for a drink, a starter & a main) seems to be a reasonable consensus. So perhaps you can shortlist like 3 restaurants within that budget. Better yet decide for everyone so there will be no fighting! =)

We can do a theme every outing - say pasta, steaks, tze char, seafood, etc. then the people who don't want to have pasta will join the later outings for seafood, something like that so everyone with every food preference can participate at some point of time.

Galinusa & cloudgal's point is that it is difficult for some guys/gals to put down a specific budget cos if HGW get us a great deal like $100 for a six course at Les Amis then sure got long line....ahhaha but lets assume for simplicity now there is no good deal just a HGW arranged outing.

But DG, YOU need to decide or there will be chaos when every one throws in their penny (thoughts) ...hahhaha =)

I share your thoughts PG....I wanted to just get a quick feel, rather than asking each and everyone. A small sample answers would suffice. A place will be allocated by tomorrow (an impt detail i need is in the office and i only just fully recovered today)

P.S. I actually don't believe in full democracy at decisive/crisis moments. :rolling:
