thai food in GMC... i'm not a real fan of "diandin leluk", but i've been a fan of "thai beer house" (located at the far end, behind the hair salon). addicted to their variety of soups/curries - should try their 'dtom-ka-gai', 'gaeng-keaw-wan' and/or 'dtom-yum-goong'.... few of my fav!

not to mention other stir fry favorites available on their menu. slurp~!

I love Aloy Thai at Shaw Leisure Gallery (Beach Road). One of my fav for Thai Food as its economical and taste great! The chef is the boss's mum and a true blue Thai.

    hey guys,
Thks to a link that contrarian sent me, I learned today that sticky rice is not just eaten with mango (Duh...hahaha...ok ok,,m slow).

anyway sticky rice can be eaten with salad or meat (fried chicken) as well, apparently its available at golden mile complex. Does any1 has any info on this? mmmm...i wonder if PP, my fav thai restaurant has it or not?

    JW reporting in

SC ah SC...Thailand is a big kingdom...so got many dialects and sects...therefore you see the variation. Sticky rice or kaao niao can be eaten with chicken as you mentioned or fish as well.

Golden Mile has this...it's not on menu, the Thais just tell the restaurant what they want...and they are served. For example, you look at the menu there is fried rice...but there are so many kinds of fried rice (seafood, beef, chicken, pork) so you just order what you like...

SC since i am meeting you..we can have Thai food at GM if you want...

    anyone is welcome to join

basically, most of the thai restaurants at GMC operate like our local version of the zhi char. they can practically do anything to your request, as long as its not some culinary feat. yes, half the time i see Thai patrons order food not seen on the menu...

as for kaao niao aka sticky/glutinous rice, the Thais consume it with almost anything they can think of. sometimes its plain n simple, taken with; chilli/ bpalaa (fermented fish)/ chicken/ pork/ beef/ somtum (papaya salad)/ mango as dessert/ durian as dessert.

i wonder if any have tried the following:

    1. moo-kra-ta/ moo-yaang kao-rii - thai style steamboat (similiar to korean hotplate steamboat)
    2. chiin-juup-jula - traditional isaan style hotpot
    3. ka-nom jiin - traditional nueh style curry noodles (similiar to laksa)

i've tried item 1 & 3, bt still hunting around for item 2.

just had some thai food for dinner, with frens at bahn-beer-thai located GMC yday- prior to my language class. the spread was quite delightful, n easy on the pockets. we ordered a mixture of foods, said to orginate from different parts of thailand - though largely from isaan; kwayteow bpaed, kwayteow gai, saenlek tomyum, somtum, lat-nuea+khaoniao, khor-moo-yaang... n a round of cha-yen

    simply delicious~! :peace:

shall post a review on it soon.

so far, i've been particularly disappointed with wat's been served at the following:
    lerk thai
    thai express
    tuk tuk thai
    lemongrass

along with many other chain store franschise style restaurants. the ingredients sometimes is a messy orgy of spice/herbs that destroys the taste necessary. while some held back their condiments to much so that the flavor is mute.

by far, i've been very pleased with; waan waan thai restaurant. still preserve some authenticity in taste, despite their secular approach.
