Ok, if you don't mind a real Thai environment with lots of Thais hanging around in a very run down place, I have just the place for you. Its called Dian Din Le Luk at Golden Mile Complex, 1st floor. The Thais absolutely love it, while the Singaporeans hate it. Haha! its funny because this is actually real Thai food, as opposed to the Thai Chinese food that most of us here in Singapore are used to. So I think your Thai friends are gonna love it, while you should just give it a try to see what real Thai food really is like. :rolling:

Its also on HGW, so check it out below:

    http://www.hungrygowhere.com/singapore/diandin_leluk_thai_restaurant_golden_mile/

Hope this helps, and have fun eating real Thai food!

I would recommend First Thai on Purvis St. or A-Roy Thai in Funan for less formal but Authentic Thai food.

I second the DIANDIN LELUK at Golden Mile recommendation
  1.
Golden Mile... seedy lei... btw, there is this Thai Disco place on the second floor which is really happening. It's really like the local clubs in Bangkok. Don't know if you guys know what I mean. It's really rocking though. There is a live band which is pretty good. Check it out. Don't know what the name is.

I second galinusa's recommendation on First Thai. Really good but no air-con. But Rick, First Thai is run by Thais so don't think there will be much of a difference between what you get there and Thailand.

I suddenly have cravings for Thong Krung on Sukumvit Soi 55. You guys much check it out if you go to bangkok. Anyone want to arrange a Bangkok makan session?!!!! Or maybe we should do a makan session at this Diandin Leluk that you guys are talking about?

A-roy Thai @ Funan must try dishes....chicken in thick red curry, fried tang hoon and poojah
  3.
A roy thai at upper east coast road i think bit better...but poor service, expensive, and crummy ambience.

I know their food is good...but the rest like service and ambience really that CMI ?
  6.
There is a relatively new Thanying at Sentosa. High on ambience. Limited Food. I wrote a review on it before. No one else seems to have checked it out.
  7.
The east cost ART service staff all non english speaking thai aunties (last few times I go) ....so lower your service expectation other than to get them to drop the dishes and present your bill. Ambience....well crummy lah Funan one still can but the Siglap one......
  8.

Hmm.. Diandin Leluk isn't even close to what is in an ordinary Bangkok coffeshop
    • CommentAuthoramber (CommentTimeFeb 15th 2008)

Every coffee shop and restaurant in Thailand has a slightly different way of preparing their dishes - you can taste the uniqueness.

Diandin Leluk is good. If you have a bigger budget, Ying Thai at Purvis street and Thanying fine dining won't disappoint.

For Thai street food at reasonable prices, go for no frills, no aircon First Thai also at Purvis St adj to Beach Rd.
My favourite is Aroy at East Coast Rd about 5 mins walk from Siglap centre. The food is marvellous, prices reasonable and you could choose from a wide menu. The kitchen is run by all-Thai staff, so it's very authentic.

If you like Thai Chinese, or Thai food Singapore style, there are quite a few establishments around offering decent fare.

However, for authentic street style Thai food, nothing in Singapore beats my favourite P&P Thai Food (now at 57 Geylang Bahru). It's the only place here where I can find the Thai food that was so familiar to me in my 3 months living in Bangkok. The owner Khun Pook is very demanding in her standards and uses imported Thai ingredients.

Have yet to try P&P though its on my must try list. If its really that authentic, all the more i shld go soon. :) Altho i m gg BKK (Platimum Mall, Siam Sq area) end March, any gd suggestions on the food places there?
  14.
thai noodle house in bukit timah (opposite coronation plaza, next to curry wok) is not bad =)
  15.
not bad meh..i think quite bad...its just plain thai chinese...average lo
  16.
haha i think not bad leh! the soupy stuff quite nice.
  17.
eee i think they add in too much coconut for the curry...some laksa thing i guess
  18.
i like the omelette thingy and the crispy yellow noodle-like stuff on the chiangmai noodles. and the curry for the chiangmai noodles taste pretty gd.

That's not one of my favourite eating areas as I lived near Lumpini Park.
There's Ban Khun Mae on Siam Square Soi 8.

Across Petchaburi from Platinum Mall, on Soi 17, Once Upon a Time. My Singaporean visitors were happy with it when I took them there, but if they weren't at Baiyoke I would have preferred other places.

Top recommendation in Bangkok is actually at Chinatown, Yaowarat junction with Soi Texas - Lek & Rut! Seafood - cheap (for example, 300 bt for 5 huge prawns) and outstanding. Need to take taxi but virtually all drivers know Soi Texas (pronounced the Thai way, not the American way). If you don't want to eat at the roadside, ask them to take you to their restaurant across the main Yaowarat Road and down the opposite soi - same price and same food.
