hmm, i guess it'd probably draw more participants if we could be more specific with the: who, what, where, when, why.... then ppl can start considering how... they can be a part of this.
i work for a vwo so as a charity, we're happy that any money comes in at all and the least we get involved, the better, less effort, less manpower needed from us, any little bit of money is appreciated. we love being beneficiaries.. when it does happen.
you're right about the questions raised on lt/st commitment but as most charities work to serve the ones that have fallen between the cracks, any contact with clients or the community we serve, we'ld hope for some form of long term collaboration because it's human services and we have people to protect.
your fund raising event sounds more short term as in you collect proceeds and distribute it accordingly to voted beneficiaries/beneficiary. there are lesser known vwos but with most, at least 50% of funds raised. Also for audit or accounting purposes, are you donating x amount of money in cash anonymously or would u want to be known. if so, is HGW registered in anyway for accounting purposes? Cash sounds good lor, imo. Easier then who among you will be in charge of the necessary processes?
It sounds good though, what you plan to do.
June already, any plans?
vwos are competitive and everyone is fighting for funding lor but personally i feel that VSA and pathlight although doing really good things, they are fairly high profile but i suppose you can all vote among yourselves. Children's services and old folks homes, i won't lie. 50 - 70% of your funds will go straight to administration and staff salaries, it's just the way it works.
I am pleasantly surprise that my favorite foodie site have so many kind hearted people =D.
A little about myself. I am Kai Xin, a Singapore university student participating in youth for causes, whereby Citibank gave us a small seed funding to do our part for society. We are working with Singapore Association for the Deaf (SADeaf). We have formed Play it by Ear (PibE), a *deaf percussion band* (yep the deaf can play music too, they feel the vibration of the drums), with the aim to provide a chance for the Deaf community to enjoy music.
Do check out the videos of the band in action at: http://www.pibe.co.nr/
To raise funds for SADeaf, we will conduct street sales for public adoption of Lego bricks. Every $2 contributes a brick to the heart. Brick by brick, we will construct a large Lego heart shaped structure, design by our deaf designer Kenny. All proceeds will go to SADeaf. (Citibank will conduct an audit on our financial statement at end of our project)
Currently, we are actively seeking performance venues for our finale in September. Highlights of our finale involve: 1. Our band will perform “live” 2. The large Lego heart shaped structure will be built 3. Build a Lego-heart family day.
You can support us through: 1. Adoption of our bricks (online, street sales or at our sponsor’s stores) 2. Participate in our Lego-Heart family day and building of Lego structure 3. Sponsorship for our goodie bag items for the family day 4. Providing a venue for our finale 5. Helping us spread the words or providing us with contacts of potential sponsors
Unfortunately, our team does not have the necessary funds nor the manpower to start a charity dinner by ourselves. If, however, HGW decides to have a charity dinner before September, do contact me and we'll see if we can arrange for our deaf band to put up a short performance for the night.
Cheers, Kai Xin Project team leader PibE (Play it by Ear) thiakx@gmail.com
This is nice! I am so out of touch with the various activities being created for the less fortunate. Only know of song signing and dance via music vibrations for the hearing impaired.
Kx: Do let me know via PM on the details of the finale coming up in sept ok? I would love to part of the audience if my schedule permits. :)
please consider community hospitals. my grandmother was in Bright Vision Hospital for 3weeks and I was there to visit everyday. I chatted with some of the patients and staff and I'm sure some charity for funds and public awareness can be very helpful. the patients there have some economical or social issues and they need help. if the hospital receives more donations, they can provide more help, employ better staff, purchase new equipment and help more people. but many people think that it is MOH's duty, garmen duty etc.
people get sick, sometimes due to the food they have eaten, toxins and chemicals accumulated through the years. hope that HGW can extend a hand to the hospital and the chaps staying and working there. help not only the beneficiary, but also those who care for them. they are paid low and their work as as demanding as ours.
