    Your guess is.....
  1.
what has it gotta do with food? =P

It's under " Others " section. So it's meant to be OT = off topic...non-food related.
  2.
Definitely a Democrat. I can't see the Republicans winning with who they’ve got. I think its more a likeability contest. I know next to nothing about their policies or how it's going to affect Singapore, but Obama is much or likable.

It's either John McCain or Obama then...
  3.
don't count on it...if clinton can get female voters and the latinos ...we may just have a first female american president.

I think Obama may lead by a slim margin....well you'll never know...this election is so historical.... Coz If Clinton wins...she'll be the first female president....and Obama will be the first black president...ah well...all the best to those candidates.

Clinton has trouble getting the independent and middle ground voters. Democrats are becoming increasingly worried that in a Clinton vs McCain contest, they might actually lose. So Obama, who has a better chance of getting the independent and middle ground voters than Clinton, might actually be the Democrats' choice if McCain's momentum is unassailable on the Republican side

the US presidential election will happen in another few more mths. from the looks of all the publicity, its quite certain that the democrats r getting alota media highlights. while it seems quite quiet for the republican camp. somehow, history tends to form the bigger basis of how things eventually turn out.

maybe the tides would change, n McCain becomes the darkhorse that comes from behind.

i think from the looks of things, votes could possibly be drawn towards the democrats instead of the republicans. cos as is, the republicans arlready created a big mess of the situation, and there's possibly gonna take yrs of reforms to shape their economy back to where it used to be. the rest is just a waiting game to see if its obama or hillary to lead the showdown against the republicans.

history has it; democrats hardly ever went to war, bt with the republicans, its war after war, lotsa lives lost.

any particular reason y obama, n not hillary?

for me, i'd root for obama too, cos there've been some stuff that he's said that r rather pragmatic, n feasible approaches. while i get a less positive vibe from hillary, cos her rallies r largely driven by discrediting her competition, instead of validating her ideas/ manifestos

dunno if its the news that we watch, bt there seems to be alot less hype in the republican camp. then again, 2 wars + recession under the watch of republican leaders might make democrats look better for now. guess i might have to do a lil reading up, b4 i'd cast my coin.

mccain vs obama... rather interesting final showdown. then again, its already been a miracle that a female & african american raced to the finish in the democrat's camp. if obama were to win the presidency, then i suppose the movies would be credited for featuring m.freeman as president some yrs ago.

maybe its just me, bt seriously i dun see y the americans would be voting for another republican, after the spat of unfortunate events taken place in their current term. the recession surely doesnt quite work in favor of the republicans in current times.

then again, perhaps mccain could possibly be in the know of situation at hand, to do enough for damage control. oh well... 50-50 i'd say.

the reason why they would want a republican inside is to balance against the power of the House and the Senate which is controlled by the Democrats. Besides, McCain is pretty middle ground and that might sway some voters to him.
    •
      CommentAuthorcontrarian (CommentTimeJun 24th 2008)

That didn't stop them from voting Bill Clinton into the White House, when the House and Senate were controlled by Democrats for so many terms before. Of course they promptly threw the Democrats out of both soon after President Clinton got in... which makes you wonder was President Clinton really so successful since his party lost both houses in his tenure.

Interesting move in the elections, with John McCain's choice of Sarah Palin as VP! This is a wildcard which throws many things up in the air, without easy predictions as to where they settle.
  4.
No contest already..obama wins outright. McCain is 72, his health is terrible...and if he kicks do you really want this inexperience wildcard Palin running one of the strongest nation in the world?

looking at the recent economic situation, either way candidate is just not as positive an outlook as we hope to be...

    1. mccain (republican) - war veteran with many yrs of political experience under his belt
    2. obama (democrat) - african american with minimal yrs of political experience in his diary

reality: democrats now holding more seats in the senate

hypothetically, if mccain takes the seat, he may/ may not encounter hurdles of overcoming the senate... if ever his reforms get approved or declined. besides, the past 15yrs shows that republicans have high tendencies of going to war - so to create more jobs for the ppl.

obama preaches of change & damage control which is long overdue, thanks to the present & previous governance...... can he in however little yrs of experience materialize those promises on the wish list??

from the looks of things i reckon it'd probably be a safer choice to root for obama. never mind color, never mind race... as long as he fulfills his promises to make a change.
  5.
Haiz...can they just bring back Hillary..... It's like "vote 1 get 1 free".....me and my wishful thinking....

no offense, bt i'm nt really a big fan of hillary... she burst her own budget for the presidential campaign... i wonder what other budgets could she burst after becoming president.
  6.
Ha....true...true....am just thinking of the "1 for 1" since they've gone thru' bad times.... ; ) The US is in a "mess" now. Wif the financial systems / economy going like that, the next president is going to face a very tough challenge and may've a very very difficult time turning things around. A much tougher job than "war stuff".

In my view, Senate experience is less relevant to the presidency. That's why I think Hillary can do a lot of good with her skills by remaining in the Senate.

Personally I'd prefer governors as they have executive experience in policy making, managing budgets, National Guard, emergencies, their own state legislatures etc.

It's still early days and any October surprise hasn't showed up yet. Hope that nothing changes in the next 3 weeks and we'll see another Democrat president again.

Funny how if it's a company in distress, not many would want to be the leader, but if it's a country, ah that's different.
  7.
actually whoever wins get a free pass... look expectations are already so bad...this credit crunch is on Bush's watch so he is the one who will keep it. The new president starts at a point where it is really hard to get any much worse. In fact during the 4 year term the stock market rebounds huge and economy fly then he gets all the credit....

looking at the media & press lately, it seems obama's drumming on mccain being the 2nd man behind bush's administration - that is responsible for the current mess, and america's in dire need for a change seems to ring a bell in many americans & gaining alota favor from other countries as well.

mccain on the contrary seems to be crippled by palin's frequent entanglement with bad press.

as i've noticed, republicans have done nothing more than just going to war to create jobs for their ppl. and their policies hardly beneficial for the regional or global economy. about time the democrats be given a chance to do some big time damage control.

i find it disturbing that obama said he wanns to invade Pakistan (sp correct?) and crush Osama. aint that the same as bush, and i dare say, even more absurd
  8.
actually dawn, Bush started the deregulation of banks and Bush administration blocked the individual state AGs from regulating National banks on predatory lending and subprime lendings to the extend to invalidating individual state laws on regulating lendings. A recent business week article clearly illustrate this as well so he deserves ALL the blame and the big banks too...feel no pity for them as they will not have any for you if you are facing foreclosure.

Hoongy is a registered republican.... =P Policy wise it usually doesn't make a huge difference as a president's constituents are the people in general instead of party aligned BUT individual agendas matters. Bushes do enjoy going to war ...and why not considering that their largest campaign donors are from the defense and energy industries.... overseas deployment is just plain good for his donors.

McCain won't be too bad I have no trust for palin being a heartbeat from the presidency. When your own party initiates an investigation on your abuse of authority base on personal vendetta that is just a terrible attribute for being president to a hegemon state.

End of day...all being said Singaporeans don't get a vote...so its all muted

Ah, now we see a stronger move in the balance in both the House and the Senate, as well as the governorships. Life becomes interesting for 2 years.

As with all elected governments elected to power for the first time in a while, the next election is usually quite challenging as the electorate judges your first term in power.

obama takes the seat, but the senate will be a bickering house, cos the democrats only secured marginal majority. its gonna get really interesting in there.
