The experienced gourmet goodies like PG will sure laugh at this (I'm real sure that he will say airline food all sucks....hahaha!), but I have experienced good airline food myself. Some that I can remember:

1997/98: Thai Airways, returning from Canada to Singapore, had a short transit in Bangkok and the food served during the flight from Bangkok back to Singapore was fantastic! The green curry was really really good and I never forgot that meal

2005: Austrian Air, from Melbourne to Singapore (sadly, this route has been discontinued by Austrian Air) Apart from other hilarious things that happened on this flight, the food was memorable. I have sat on SQ before to Melbourne and back, but have had never had meal as what Austrian Air served that time. The Hungarian beef goulash stew was simply superb, and yes, never forgot that meal too!

As for Cruise buffet, yes, I always look forward to that too. :cheer:

Eee... I've to fly about once a month and I can't say I enjoy the food served on the planes. More than half the time, it's NG. On some occasions, it can be pretty good (especially if SIA is serving a special item from a recipe by a celebrity chef, marked with a chef's hat on the menu).

most airline meals usually suck...& i've had pretty bad plastic food experiences...however, i suppose i can say that my best airline meal would be the beef fillet served on a Qantas flight out to Cairns.

once, i took one of china's airlines (i forgot which one) from beijing to shanghai and they served a simple (only bread n patty) but yummy burger for afternoon snack!

aircraft food? i think 1 of my fav would be cathay pacific. they give you the menu in advance, so u can read & decide long before they start serving the meals. i think its a common practice for some airlines to design the menu according to the flight route, which is more localized.

ie: my flight to tokyo via hongkong, they served soba & salmon, followed with ice cream MOCHI for desserts~! very nice, memorable~!

from wat i've been told, they're largely being rostered on a fair average spread. meaning, every cabin crew under employment should be scheduled for similiar avg mileages & destinations. So that all should have similiar "there or about" annual total gross (flight + meal + destination) allowances.

but, its a hidden rule that many tend to swap flight rosters, in a bid to either clock more long-haul flights (with fatter allowance packages) or shorter flights (with slimmer allowance packages). subject to personal commitments/agendas. lately, there've been new systems to curb this rampage of manipulation, n their swapping r now subject to mgt approvals.

from time to time, the crews/teams will be put thru tests by mgt observers to gauge & assess the crew/team performance. which means, the entire team is not permitted for schedule swapping. n if the service standards r not satisfactory, the individuals will go back to trg school (black-listed, they say). stringent regulations set in place, so if the employee clocks enough demerits - s/he'd be asked to leave in due time. (no surprises, no more 2nd chances for career switch to be ground crew, the coorporation has reputation to uphold)

the myth in the past; of female cabin crews not wanting to have kids, for fear of losing their chance to fly again has been erased. in a bid to promote child birth, so long as the mothers can resume the hourglass figure post natal, still look good in the kebaya, they can resume flying duties again.

nonetheless, i've been told that the drop-out rate during trg school is still considerably high, as many of our sg gals tend to have shorter fuse, and smaller threshold for dealing with irritable passengers. which explains y they're taking in more foreigners (more demure & stronger tolerance) for the demanding job.

i think its almost the same reasons as many who've passed the test to qualify for cabin crew. every1 seems to bear the same sentiments; getting paid to travel.

then of cos, they all lie their way thru the many rounds of interviews, saying; they pride themselves in hospitality & service, they find satisfaction in putting smiles on passengers, making the flight a memorable experience gives better job satisfaction... bla bla bla...

if it wasnt for my "sergeant-major" look-alike features, i think i've probably learnt enough to sit for the interview. ROFL

umm, goes without saying... i was told most cabin crews eat like suaku when they 1st started to fly, bt give them some time, they'd rather faint of hunger than to eat it.

pig out? be careful ah, u're gonna need alota "retail therapy" in order to fit well into the kebaya. retail therapy is good for working out, bt nt very frenly on the wallet/purse. cos bank acc will slim down much faster than u do.

On long haul flights, some airlines serve tasty snacks. I remember Singapore Airlines gave out Magnum ice-cream, chocolate bars, fruit, and even hot sandwiches. Jet Blue Airways serves complimentary snacks such as Terra Blues Chips (which I think is very smart branding - Jet Blue and 'blue chips') and Doritos Munchies among others.

as for me, i'd normally ask for tomato juice or if i feel up for kicks, sometimes a 'bloody mary'. macademia nuts goes well with it too. nice snacks for binging while watching the in-flight movies

last yr when i took cathay pacific, it served a very nice ice cream! a stick of chocolate ice cream coated with chocolate (similar to magnum)..yummm :)

and there was once i took SQ flight to china, it served some small chinese snack that was sth like pineapple tart and it tasted gd.

the weirdest thing i rmb eating on a flight was a pudding-like thing served by cathay pacific. it tasted like perfume!!! ><
