i wonder how many fellow foodies here reckon the most compatible gadget that befits our lifestyles?
i'm still crossing my fingers n waiting patiently for the new iphone.

saw on the news headlines that the 3G version is up for grabs. (bt only in the states)

just imagine, internet access at the fingertips, with maps available for easy searching of makan places. check the directory for restaurant number, call & make a reservation. then, the 2mp camera also allows for photo taking of the food. those who're smittened by the food, can also go online n start penning their reviews.

sigh, if only HGW could get iphones at bundled prices.... wouldnt it be nice (cadbury advert jingle)

xenon flash u mean? well, b careful on how n when u use it, cos xenon drains the battery real fast. as for the feedback... the buttons r really tiny, much smaller than tictac capsules. u might wanna have a read on it

hmm... for a dsc, i think it also depends wat your needs r. cos to date, there's tons of DSCs out there with myriads of specs to satisfy different user's preferences.

    1. if u've got steady hands n particular about color accuracy, i'd suggest canon
    2. if u're u're quite accident prone, outdoor & adventure driven, maybe consider olympus
    3. if u're undecided n wanna have something for most occassions, i'd say panasonic

as for me, cos of work requirements n personal interest in photo-journaling... i'm greatly satisfied with my current panasonic TZ2

no lah, not guru lah.... none will ever have enough knowledge of wat the shelves have to offer. its just a hobby of mine to photo-journalize things/places i come across. hence, developed the need to know about some not too expensive gadgets around.

i contemplated on getting a DSLR b4, bt thinking i'm not gonna be using photography to make a living, it didnt make $ sense to pay thru my nose for 1. all it takes is a good eye, some creativity via photoshop... viola... no need for expensive accessories.

oh well, cant be helped, i too was a techno dinosaur once upon a time. it was only thru the yrs n the everchanging era, that forced me outta my jurassic shell, to learn n be acquainted with techno advancements. to date, i still consider myself slow on catching on - compared to my other tech savvy guru frens.

meanwhile, i kinda enjoy the challenges of picking up new things n being aware of new techno stuff, made available for us consumers. really interesting i find.

actually, everything no matter how user friendly they've tried to device the gadgets to be, still takes some time for adaptation & getting used to. i must confess that i too was a lil puzzled with some of the functions/ features of my toys, bt after some troubleshooting & browsing of the user guides... using them has since become a breeze.

A DSLR makes life alot easier even with PS. I used to have a few P&S but they couldn't achieve the bokeh i wanted, not even with PS.

bui, i think it all depends how well the user adapts to the toy. give an amatuer a DSLR, pics may come out horrendous. bt give a pro a P&S... pics can still come out better.

during my schooling days when photography was part of curriculum, we're all using manual SLR, rich kids who had no problems with FMFF (father mother fund foundation) were blessed with choice to buy lenses & accessories as if collecting stamps. while those of us with tighter budgets had to make do with just 1 or 2 lenses.

at the end of the day, it was proven that its not the equipment/ accessories that takes good pics, its the user that makes the difference.

I agree with you that the user makes the difference. But you can't discount the fact that DSLRs do churn out better pictures than P&S in the hands of advanced users =)

well, the only diff i see in a good DSLR vs a good P&S is being able to play with the DOF... everything else still comes out as hard. the DSLR has yet to produce softer images as compared to the days of old.

    depending on your DSC settings.
    1. by default, white balance setting is on "auto" - if appears warm or yellowish... u might wanna change white balance to fluorescent or tungsten, to neutralize. while, sometimes this attempt would cos the image to appear bluish.
    2. compensate the light balance, +/- 0.3~0.5 - depending on how much ambient light available at the makan place.
    3. macro only when u're gonna take it from up close.

no need to worry too much on the hand shaking, cos most DSC today should already have features to curb this problem - otherwise, just snap.... P&S DSCs should be able to auto focus.... nt unless u're using DSLR. nevertheless, DLSR have more weight than P&S ones, so its sturdier to balance for a good take

actually when u view on the pc, compared to viewing on DSC screen can make out the difference already. sharp or blur is quite straight fwd... bt i refer to the difference of color compared to viewing on DSC vs pc monitor.
