in general i am quite worried of eating food in malaysia/ kl because the water used in cooking is not very clean unlike that in singapore.

then i require high hygiene standards in food before i dare to eat them.

n unless i have a car which i can top up to full tank in KL at a cheaper price than spore, i wouldnt have much reason to go all the way down to kl...unless someone offers a ride or we have cheap shopping urges/ other responsibilities to fulfill

would rather spend the few hour rides searching for good food in spore on HungryGoWhere!

but i wouldnt mind a good makan outing to KL one day!
  3.
adding on to my previous list:

    - names of the authentic ampang yong tau foo places (they're coffeeshops):
*orchard view yong tau foo: 443 Bt.5 Jln. Ampang, 68000 Ampang
*foong foong restoran: 621-A Jalan Besar Ampang, 68000 Ampang

    - ji4 de2 shi2 (desserts): 145 Jln. Imbi, 55100 K.L.

    - vienna bagels: a kiosk in suria KLCC shopping centre selling really good n chewy bagels with toppings like oreo, peanut butter etc :D

    - little penang kafe: 4th floor, KLCC suria. pretty gd char kway teow

    - hakka restaurant: used to be at No.6 Jalan Kia Peng (phone number: 03-2143 1908), but probably shifted recently. not sure of new location though >.<

    - coliseum cafe

ermm....then i think you better stay in singapore. I have seen the worst in Indonesia and I know from family and friends' chronicles...that China is really bad.

kitchens in local restaurants aren't that "hygienic" either. I have personally worked in the kitchens before so I can relate. that said, as long as I don't see what goes on behind, I close one eye.

what do you mean by high hygiene standards? you mean those that are given "A" can be construed as hygienic? I think you are being too naive here.

It is wise of you to be wary of food safety when travelling. Here are a few tricks from a seasoned regional traveller:

    1. At roadside stalls, observe the cooking process. If they have no running water to wash the plates, you're probably better off ordering taking away.

    2. Order items that the vendor is going to cook on the spot for you, not those that are already cooked and sitting there.

    3. Boiling and high temperature cooking will kill bacteria and viruses. I've drunk tap water in the whole range of countries in ASEAN - Thailand, Philippines and more - after boiling. Avoid raw vegetables and ice.

    4. There're reasons why in India, people eat curd and yoghurt. These mild bacteria stimulate an immune response from your body, helping them improve resistance to stronger bacteria. The other reason is to balance the heatiness from the other varieties of food on the menu - curries, tandoori...

    5. If you're there for a long stay, your stomach becomes stronger and more used to the conditions after about a week.

i quite like this restaurant called nasi kandar pelita @ jln ampang...it's a food-court like restaurant...serves malay & indian cuisine...the dish that i like best is the ayam madu.
  4.
haha i went to KL's tam jiak kway (i think thats the name) and i heard the aunties there are really rude! if you ask for the price and dun buy the food, they will scold you.
  5.
are KL food prices escalating as much like in spore? if not i wouldnt mind making a trip down for an enjoyable meal and doing some crazy shopping at the same time!
  6.
Yeap. Restoran Yu Ai's Seafood Curry Noodle is now RM15 a bowl. Apparently its RM10 5 years ago, i.e. RM1 increase every year.

    Curry Seafood noodles

Just came back from KL last weekend - tried their Roti Canai which beats any Roti Prata in Singapore hands down and also the once available A&W.

    Roti Canai

    A&W

eh peeps I don't understand why you all think only A&W serves root beer float? I dare say New York New York's root beer float is very good! go try if you haven't. and it's easily and readily available in Singapore.

nothing beats the taste of the original a&w root bear... n the scoop of vanilla ice cream that goes with it... simple tear jerking for me. nt to mention, the sentimental memories of my growing up days value-adds to it as well.

y so sentimental? fast food was an incentive for me if i aced in my semester exams. unlike kids these days, who get fast food like any other normal day.

Its not so much of ultra gd tasting stuff from A&W. There are many places that serves Root Beer Float, waffles, curly fries and coney dog. Basically, its just A&W itself, bringing back gd ol' memories that we are going "Awwww" abt.

i agree CG...i used to remember how tuesdays would be anw days and my mom will take me down to anw for their good old coney dog, curly fries and root beer in the tall frosted glass wic was taller than i was then and my waffle ice cream...and then years after that i learnt how to do all of em by myeslf(cos i was workin there)...sucks that it had to close down tho...curl fries eaten with a waffle ice cream is so theraputic

i guess its the kicks of the nostalgia that is makes A&W an experience measurelessly priceless
  7.
Yes. I actually saved my tummy at Mdm Kwan's @ KLCC so that I can squeeze in some Curly Fries and Root Beer after that.

Oh besides A&W, anyone remember this -->

    Baskin Robbins

I had it at Berjaya Times Square.

hisfoodblog: Why don't you rehash all your blog entries over at the HungryGoWhere's Kuala Lumpur page? I think they would be made more useful there.

Hmm... would love to but didn't review Baskin Robbins - so decided to share the picture I took instead.
  9.
definitely check out oversea chinese restaurant at jalan imbi - their char siew (yeah you heard me right) is amazing and it is better that you reserve it in the afternoon if you're going down in the evening. also their black sauce assam prawns and their steamed pa ting fish. its only 8.42 in the morning and typing this is already making me frickin hungry.

i also always enjoy the BKT just opposite the road (also at jalan imbi) - don't remember the name though but its one of the mega BKT restaurants.

madam kwan's standard has gone down in recent years...
