Just venting at how generally awful the food most Singapore caterers provide is! Whether it's at a wedding, funeral, birthday party, office party, tinkats, anywhere - haven't had a single good catered meal in the last 2 years! Why is that? Apparently, caterers make the most $$$ in the food industry here - ahead of fast food restaurants, hawkers and restaurants. Is it cos they're all central kitchen or factory-made? Or that they don't care about reputation? Or they just don't know how to cook! Anybody got any insight pon this?

ehh there're some okay catering services actually. personally engaged one for bbq, ingredients quite fresh and only the fried rice was a little salty. in fact food was wiped out relatively quickly.

but also must give them some discount la... cos usually these kind they'll need to prepare a lot for many clients, and in advance otherwise we'll conplain if they cant deliver on time right? cant expect them to have quality like those only done on the spot

Yup, I agree with Rata, you just have to take time to find the correct caterers and they definitely don't come cheap. I've once attended a party with food catered from Chilli Padi, which I think is not too bad. Broth do catering on request too, but still the same thing, expect to pay for good food with good quality.

    Just my 2cents worth

I'm also looking for some good caterers/chefs for hire/pte kitchens.
Could use some help/info. Looking at dining for approx 10pax. Hoping to keep within 50-60per pax.
Willing to pay additional for an exclusive chef.

Try Jimmy Chok if you're willing to up your budget: jimmy_chok@sal.org.sg

There are some rather good ones out there actually. I tried Purple Sage (px starts from $15pp), Elsie's Kitchen (not too much msg) & Oh's Farm Catering (for my wedd customary lunch & food was wiped out!). Purple Sage's setup is more upmarket and I tot prices are really very reasonable.

If you are into Nonya Cuisine, I'd recommend Chilli Api...
    http://www.chilliapi.com.sg/

Seems like they just revamp'ed their menu to expand the variation available, but it is rather 'busy' and time consuming to click though over 50 different packages with no indication of price until you enter that sub-site.

Actually had a very good meal at a party in St Mary's of the Angels a few months back. It was catered by Baba King Nonya Deli - might want to try them - don't know prices though.

Thanks Paul - have actually been to their restaurant at Singapore Expo. If their catered food is as good as the shop's then I second your recommendation.

Con: Is Jimmy your friend? Gathered at his restaurant and now promo his catering. Does he has a website for this catering biz? Or is it part of the bistro? Heard he's good ; )

Where I gather people from here (with their high expectations), it'd be a place where I'm confident they won't embarass themselves or me. So far, I've treaded only to a few of my most trusted and dependable joints. Some of the people at these joints have become my friends, but sad to say, I've never spoken to Jimmy yet to date.

It's the hours of his job at Academy that leaves him free to be private chef for dinner and weekends. Academy is actually run by the Singapore Academy of Law, not by Jimmy (who's an employee). You'd have to speak to him directly on his private chef or catering.

My most recent visit to Pagi Sore reminded me that it also does catering. Decent choice especially for those looking for halal catering.
