Who said you couldn't eat chocolate on a diet? It is all about portion control.

Harvest Field’s Dried Cranberries ($4.95 for a 150g packet) | These little bits of dried fruit are tart and sweet and are great for munching on while at work. Betcha didn't know dried cranberries contain no fat, cholesterol, or sodium and the natural sugars in there keep you alert and awake. They contain 130 calories for every 40g serving (a quarter of the packet) - eat these on their own or sprinkle over salads or cereal.

E & C’s Cod Fish ($1.50 for a 80g packet) | There’s something very addictive about these skinny strips of dried fish, and we can’t help reaching into the bag for seconds (and thirds). Half a packet will set you back 140 calories. They are trans-fat free but high in salt, so go easy.

Snyder's of Hanover’s Mini Pretzels ($5.20 for a 283.5g bag) | Choose this if you’re looking for a snack with a crunch. Watch out though, mini pretzels are loaded with high levels of sodium. Limit yourself to 20 mini pretzels (110 calories), or look for the unsalted version.

Seneca’s Apple Chips ($3.30 for a 70g bag) | This probably sounds healthy, but before you stock up on them, you should know that just 12 chips add up to 140 calories! You are better off biting into the real thing.

Cadbury’s Old Gold Dark Chocolate ($6.25 for a 200g bar) | Chocolate can actually be good for you – if you choose the right kind. Dark chocolate can improve blood flow and bring down blood pressure. Treat yourself to 5 squares for 134 calories, then put the rest away for another day.

Fantastic’s French Onion and Cheese Rice Crackers ($2.85 for 100g packet) | Baked, not fried and high on taste, these little round crackers might just become a permanent fixture in your snack stash. After all, who can say no to cheese crackers? Limit your fix to one 90 calorie serving at a time - that is a quarter of the packet.

Kraft’s Cheese Wedges ($5.95 for a box of eight wedges) | These conjure up images of school lunch boxes and picnics in the park. These 68 calorie wedges of cheese can be eaten as it is, spread over bread, or with crackers.

Vitagen ($3.70 for a pack of 5 bottles) | They call themselves a 'less sugar' alternative to regular cultured milk drinks (we all know who they’re really talking about). Vitagen has all the cool benefits of a probiotic drink - aids in digestion, prevents the growth of harmful bacteria and keeps your tummy healthy. This gets our approval, even though one tiny bottle does pack in 53 calories.

Nature Valley’s Oats 'n' Honey Bar ($5.85 for a box of 12 bars) | Packed conveniently in two-in-one packages, these granola bars are perfect for those on-the-go. Before work, in between meetings or pre-gym, these 90 calorie bars are high in fiber and protein.

Soyjoy ($1.90 for a 30g bar) | Whole soy is low in saturated fat, cholesterol-free, rich in calcium... the list goes on. This superfood is baked into every Soyjoy bar; at just 105 calories we would pick these over sugar-laden cereal bars any day.

Bananas (19 cents for 100g) | Yes, fruit is a snack. Snack on potassium-rich bananas for circulatory and digestive heath (among others). Typically around 105 calories each, bananas also give you a boost of energy – buy a bunch leave it in the pantry on a Monday to help your co-workers chase those blues away.

Tao Kae Noi’s Seaweed ($2.95 for a 36 g bag) | Packed in a resealable bag, seaweed is a fiber-rich snack, with great texture (we like). We especially love the hot and spicy flavour, and cannot stop at just one. The whole bag will leave you 130 calories heavier, but fully satisfied.

Tong Garden’s Rice Crackers ($2.20 for 20 packets) | Craving carbs? Better yet, salty carbs? These rice crackers will hit the spot. Go easy on them though, just one tiny packet of two can add 81 calories, and leave you wanting more.

Quaker Oats’ Apple and Cinnamon oatmeal cookies ($2.85 for six packets of three cookies each) | We know wholegrain oats are good for your body: they can lower the risk of high blood pressure and diabetes. The sugar levels in these cookies are high though, so stick to just one serving (three cookies) at a time. These are 135 calories of yummy, oat-y goodness.

Farmer’s Union Greek Yoghurt ($3.45 for a 170g tub) | We have been hearing hype around Greek yoghurt, and we agree. It packs in twice the amount of protein, and half the amount of sugar, as opposed to regular yoghurt. This one has real passion fruit bits in it too! Enjoy the whole tub for 134 calories - the good kind.
