We are instantly attracted to all things egg-shaped, and even more if they contain, are coated with or are solid eggs of chocolate. Happy Easter to all, and as a special Easter present for you, we nibbled on as many of chocolate eggs we could gather in Singapore's supermarkets to bring you our favourites. Make like a bunny, and go hunt these out at a Cold Storage/FairPrice near you.
CULT FAVOURITE | Meiji Twinkle Cocoa Snack ($2.05 for pack of 5) | These Japanese chocolate snacks are cute and and colourful, and comes with a sheet of stickers in fancy shapes. Kids will love these chocolate eggs - they are hollow inside and filled with candy and smarties.
CULT FAVOURITE | Meiji Twinkle Cocoa Snack ($2.05 for pack of 5) | There is a pleasantly surprising crunch when you bite into it. The insides look a bit like finding hidden treasure, and the stickers are fun to collect too.
Kinder Joy ($1.60 per egg) | Usually the first thing you think of when anyone says chocolate eggs. Kinder Joy is exactly egg-shaped and has more than just chocolate inside. Available in supermarkets and convenience stores all the time - you don't have to wait for Easter for your choco-egg fix.
Kinder Joy ($1.60 per egg) | One half has a surprise toy (a different one almost every time), and the other half has two crunchy chocolate "yolks" sitting in a pool of creamy white chocolate. There is even a little spoon to eat it with. What's not to love?
Cadbury Caramello ($4.75 for a 125g bag) | Cadbury does a solid chocolate egg with a caramel centre. The caramel was not as gooey as we would have liked, but still good.
Cadbury Caramello ($4.75 for a 125g bag) | We bit into this expecting a flowy, nougat centre; but got a squirt of caramel. This is not overpoweringly sweet and great for those who prefer a more chocolate-to-filling ratio.
Cadbury Dairy Milk, Milk Chocolate Eggs ($4.75 for a 125g bag) | These are simple, and fuss-free solid chocolate eggs. Milk chocolate fans will not be able to stop at just one (we couldn't).
Cadbury Dairy Milk, Milk Chocolate Eggs ($4.75 for a 125g bag) | They have that great Cadbury Dairy Milk taste, a perfect blend of creamy milk chocolate that is just the right amount of sweet. Bonus points for coming wrapped in beautiful bright coloured foil.
CROWD FAVOURITE | Cadbury Mini Eggs ($4.50 for a 100g bag) | The mini eggs look the most egg-like of the lot, and these deceptively tiny morsels make for a great in-between meals sugar rush. Again, you cannot stop at one.
CROWD FAVOURITE | Cadbury Mini Eggs ($4.50 for a 100g bag) | The dainty, pastel coloured eggs are milk chocolate coated with coloured sugar. Very sweet, but just right for their tiny size. Our team of tasters kept popping.
Cadbury Creme Egg ($2.90 for a 5g bag) | These eggs deliver what they promise: they're chocolate eggs with cream-filled centers. Rich and decadent, these very sweet treats are best taken sparingly (and probably not for hyperactive toddlers).
Cadbury Creme Egg ($2.90 for a 5g bag) | The fondant cream inside is white with a hint of yellow (they are trying to hint at a yolk, we think). The Dairy Milk chocolate taste is perfectly creamy, as always.
Dove Milk Chocolate Eggs ($6.95 for a 251.51g bag) | Dove's milk chocolate dons an egg shape only for Easter. This is the biggest egg bag available, and the eggs come wrapped in a cheery, bright blue foil.
Dove Milk Chocolate Eggs ($6.95 for a 251.51g bag) | The bag claims 'silky smooth eggs', and it delivers: the eggs are melt-in-your-mouth velvety drops of chocolate. More, please.
CRITIC'S PICK | Ghirardelli's Milk & Crisp Chocolate Eggs ($4.95 for a 100g bag) | For something a little more luxe, grab this bag of milk chocolate eggs by Ghirardelli. For an egg that small, this one has great texture and a smooth, creamy taste.
CRITIC'S PICK | Ghirardelli's Milk & Crisp Chocolate Eggs ($4.95 for a 100g bag) | The milk chocolate within is peppered with toasted crisp rice. We love the slow-melting chocolate and the bites of crunch - this bag tops our Easter shopping list.
Hershey's Milk Chocolate Covered Marshmallow Egg ($8.80 for a pack of 6) | Almost as large as a real egg, these mega marshmallows are coated with Hershey's milk chocolate. These are surprisingly light, although we can't help but think how the addition of a graham cracker would make this a s'more.
Hershey's Milk Chocolate Covered Marshmallow Egg ($8.80 for a pack of 6) | These aren't the best quality marshmallows, but coated with chocolate everything tastes good. A good change after all the solid eggs we popped.
