| Kim San Leng - Golden Mountain Dragon Roasted meats is best
We've always passed this way on the way back from IMM at Jurong East and made it a mental note to drop by one day. This coffee shop is special because it not only serves roasted meats but has a economical rice stall next to it, with hot/cold drinks service. Illegal al fresco tables are set outside but taken in during the non-peak hours to avoid a fine. It is outstanding because the staff there have music on full time and .... they sing to it, providing some sort of entertainment too.
Food / Beverage: Their roasted meats - char siew, siew yoke, duck are best that I've tasted. Balance it with their freshly prepared stir fried vegetables from the economical rice stall next to it and you've got a healthy meal. Their char siew is prepared on site and I think they use fresh pork. I gave up eating at Tiong Bahru roasted meats when I discovered they use frozen pork all round. Their roasted pork loin (siew yoke) is tasty, short on fat and crunchy skin. Also has the fresh pork taste, unlike Tiong Bahru. My wife is a roast duck fanatic and an expert on its taste, she says that this is best - no need to go down to Syed Alway Rd (who have also started to use frozen pork for their pork dishes). Drinks - good for a coffee shop.
Ambience: Seating outside is always nice as you get fresh air and we chose to dine al fresco even on a hot day.
Value: $9 for a serving of roast duck leg, char siew and roasted pork is good value. Veg dishes for about $2 per plate of 3 veg.
Service: Their waiters sing too!!! Prompt and clean service. |
