| Good Value for Money
One would have thought that their fried chicken would taste the same at every outlet. Well, they're not. In my many years of patronising KFC, I have found that the food offered have slight differences in taste. Even the chicken pieces appears bigger at some outlets.
This is quite a new outlet and being ringed by their sister outlets at Tm Pertama, Tm Connaught and Tm Maluri (Jusco), one does not have a long wait at this outlet to get their finger licking goodness.Unless, there is a sports function at the KL Stadium.
What strikes ones attention at this outlet is that the staffs are friendly and obliging. You can pick your chicken parts which you so desire and they will oblige willingly. The portions seems bigger as compared to some other nearby outlets. |

| Nice Place To Chill Out
Nothing to do while your date shops at One Utama? Check out Charms.
A nice little quaint cafe, this place offers a slightly surreal environment where one can enjoy local delights while laze around and even take a nap given the laid back environment with the regular clinking of the chimes.
Serving portions are large while prices are very reasonable. I was not able to finish both my milo or ice kacang.
Service staff were enthusiatic and and very friendly. |

| Just follow the crowd.
This is the only one EK outlet that also sells Nam Heong chicken rice. A nice combination what with you can try the best of both worlds; Shanghainese food and Hainanese chicken rice.
I found the food from Esquire the same as with any other of their outlet as the main dishes are prepared from a central kitchen. You could also order chicken rice and get it delivered into the restaurant as both the outlets shares the same owners. Whilst the chicken rice was given top marks, the beef brisket soup was a disaster. The whole bowl of soup comprised of 2 pieces of boiled 'lobak', 3 pieces of beef tripe and another 3 pieces of beef brisket. All that for RM10. The soup was tasteless as the meat flavours have not infused into the soup. Barring the soupy incident, it was a pleasant meal as the other dishes were all within expectations. |

| Deflated food at Inflationary prices
Returned to this restaurant after a few years absence. I was probably influenced by their glib adverts on how good their food were without burning a hole in your pocket. At the end of the meal, I should have stuck to my tried and tested notion that the ad-men are merely good at selling dreams.
On the whole, there was not much to complain on the food. It was alright by any standard, a minimum expectation on the quality would help though.
For the prices, the quantity served was measly to say the least. RM20-00 for a chicken chop with some boiled vege of peas, carrots and corn and some fries. RM45 for a small piece of salmon with a small of piece of beef. RM60 for half a frozen 'baby' lobster and a half piece of chicken chop. The portions were so small that my whole family had to stop by at Jalan Peel on the way home to have some beef noodles!!
Service was so-so, the captain looked impatient when we were comtemplating going for oxtail or seafood chowder soup. In the end, we opted for both as we could sense that he was about to walk off without taking our orders. Apart from that incident, the other waiters were pleasant and attentive enough.
Overall, nothing much to shout about. One can have the same food at any roadside or shophouse western food stall at less than half the price. |

| A big letdown.
Visited the outlet last weekend. Went early so getting a table was not a problem. The last time I went to Madam Kwan's was at KLCC about 2 years ago. Wanted to see if the signature dishes taste just as good.
My family ordered 2 nasi lemaks and 2 nasi bojari. For drinks, we went for something safe, iced lemon tea and bubur cha-cha.
The nasi lemak was still delicious but the portions have shrunken. Two pieces of curry chicken with more bones than meat hardly justifies the RM14 price tag.
As for the nasi bojari, not much to complain on the fried chicken although the side was over fried and the meat was dry but was well marinated. The beef rendang was obviously a rush job. The santan (coconut milk) was probably cooked in high heat to hasten the cooking process. You could smell the coconut oil in the rendang instead of the aromatic santan and spices. For RM20 a plate, I would have expected a better prepared dish since it was their signature dish.
The ice lemon tea tastes just like iced water. No smell of tea and certainly no smell of any lemon. The only option was that you are allowed to add sugar syrup to the iced mixture on your own accord. At RM6 per glass, I would have had 4 glasses of better tasting ones at any mamak stall.
The bomb of the meal would be the bubur cha-cha, a signature dessert of the restaurant. What they did was they first boiled the sweet tapioca and yam seperately. Nothing wrong with that as any recipe book will teach you that. But this restaurant took a short cut after this process. They scooped the tapioca and yam into the bowl and the added boiled (warmed?) santan and sago into the bowl and served it as bubur cha-cha. What gave it away was that the tapioca was steeped in the smell of ginger and that the tapioca tastes much sweeter than the soup, an indication that it was not slow boiled in the santan.
The whole meal cost about RM140-00 inclusive of a 10 percent service charge and a 5 percent sales tax. The only saving grace was that they offered plain water, iced or warm, to every diner free of charge. |

| Great idea, lousy execution
I heard Marche is very good in Singapore. So to bring that idea into Malaysia is very much welcomed.
However, it wasn't all theat satisfying for my meals in Marche One Utama. There's nothing wrong with the ambience and settings of the restaurant though, in fact it was quite impressive at first to see so many different backgrounds to the different area of seatings, to assemble the market itself. It is not that comfortable though because many of the tables are pushed so near to each other.
First up, the drinks. We went to the "fresh fruit juice corner" and I've ordered my favourite lemon juice. The guy turned over, took out a bottle of concentrated lemon, and made my cup with that. So, it's not so fresh-fresh juice. But, still delicious, so no complaints.
Next up, the duck breast...cost us RM23 for one breast. If I were the chef, I'll call that a total failure. Tasteless, over-cooked, dry, and I found myself not able to chew any part of the duck breast.
Then the salad, mixes of vege, some i don't even know what kind of vege it is. Dozens of toppings for you to choose, I've tried all of it but none of them stood out to be nice. Just okays.
Finally the dessert...it was all average. But one stood out is the banana on waffle. First taste and you'll find it hard to stop. So, if you are weight conscious, please avoid this!
Here, after you place your orders, you are not adviced to wait around the counter as it might cause congestions. But when you're back at your own seats, some which are far from the counter you've ordered, you don't get to hear them shouting your numbers. So, it's something that has to be improved.
Overall, it's the worst main course (duck breast) i've ever had. |

| Superb service, makes me want to tip them more
My first experience of Toni Roma Sunway Pyramid was in start 2007. It was after a long shopping day with my gf, and we ended up in the restaurant after one of the workers sweet talk us into it. Since then, we become one of the biggest fans of the restaurant.
Once we stepped in, they offered to take our shopping bags for us. It's that little extra bit of service, but it made hell alot of difference.
However, it was a little bit too dark for my likings.
The waitress offered to run through the menu for us, and we happily accepted. Although there are quite alot of customers at that time, I would say 75% full, she spend every bit of her saliva to explain each and every line of the menu, introduced which is more popular, and told us he personal likings. So, we fell into the trap and ordered more than what 2 of us can eat!!!
The appetizers are good, notibly the spicy prawn in the glass. Spicy, yet you can taste the sweetness of the prawns.
Next up the ribs, which is til date the best ribs I've ever had. Char to perfection, soft and tender, and preserved every bit of the ribs' juices. 100 marks for it.
The sirloin steak, medium done, was nicely done too. Not too special, but very delicious.
The burger, however is too big. So it gives a feeling that it's too dry, and not so juicy. This maybe because we had taken too much before the burger as well though.
Through out the meal, the waitress have gave us alot of care. When we were looking at the ribs, she automatically came and explain to us how the ribs are done and introduced few ways of eating it. Yet, you don't feel her presence is disturbing.
And when we asked for the bills, she personally wrote on the receipt "nice to meet you, hope to see you again here" with a big smiley. It was very friendly for her to do that.
So, for the best ribs and superb service, although a bit pricey but it's well worth it. |
