[22 Aug 2011] OK

I don't go to this part of Singapore often, but we were running at East Coast Park and a friend suggested a place he knows and likes a lot for tze char.

We ordered:
a.  sambal fried pomfret: not bad
b.  herbal chicken: so so
c.  pepper crayfish: I wasn't wow-ed
d.  braised pork knuckle: ok
e.  fried sweet potato leaf: this was nice

As you can see from the above, all in all, it was pretty average...

[13 Aug 2011] Not that bad leh

I have to say that my experience was not as bad as the other reviews I've seen. I called in the afternoon to make reservations quite painlessly. Service is a bit disorganised, but no one was rude to me (not like, say, Wee Nam Kee).

Portions are a bit on the small side, but prices are also cheap relative to other tze char places. We tried the assam fish head, which was a hit. Herbal chicken was ordinary and portion was puny. Chilli crab was above average. Be forewarned that their "man tou"s for the crab are huge (beard papa size)!

[09 Aug 2011] Really a find

I wanted to try a place different from the rest, and I got one... dishes are Asian-fusion, like the dry curry pasta, chicken wings fried with preserved red bean (it's the salty cubed tofu thing which I used to eat with porridge as a kid), etc.

Portions are not exactly big, but prices are affordable, and with tapas-style small dishes, you fill up as you eat slowly and talk with your friends..

All in all, definitely recommended!

They have some craft beers as well..

Spent $70 including 2 craft beers

[17 Jul 2011] If only it were a bit cheaper

Food was good, service was excellent!

Mark-up for some of the wines were pretty reasonable.. But I really wish the food were a little cheaper, which would guarantee many more return visits!

[01 Jul 2011] Expense account :)

Dinner was a treat from a friend.

I had the beef bouillion for starters, which was nice, but not the best I've had.

As for mains, I got the wagyu style ribeye for $180... nice, but I question whether it was worth the money... sides were ok

What I appreciated was the decent selection of demi-bottles of wine

Service was nice and warm... place was pretty noisy though (as with most of the restaurants below the ground floor)

[14 May 2011] Seconds

My second trip back... same conclusions as before:

a.  their buffalo mozzarella is a nice way to start a meal.. quality is superior to what you get at most other restaurants...

b.  pastas are to die for... somehow I think the ones we had last night were a little more cooked than the last time.. perhaps to cater more to local tastes.. but still, the texture and hearty sauces we had were amazing!

c.  they serve family portions of the pastas too! I was jealous of the next table which had 2 steaming pots of them...

d.  we shared the short rib for the mains... wasn't particularly impressed

So long story short, the next time I'm back, I'm having a family pot of pasta all to myself :D

Spent $160 for 2 without any wine

Also, a little less noisy than the last time, which was raucous...

[16 Jan 2011] Good!

First thing - the place is darned noisy!! It's nice to feel that people are enjoying each others' company, but you almost couldn't hear your dining companions speak unless you raise your voice as well..

Food's very good - we shared portions from the mozzarella bar, which certainly impressed, as I've never known mozzarella cheese to be like what we tried (sorry, I a bit suaku)..

The pasta was even better! I had the ox-tail sauce, which was a wee bit too salty, but the texture of the fresh pasta was heavenly!!

The cocktails, which I heard were the highlight as well, was a bit of a let down, to me at least...

Can't wait to try to pizzeria!

[16 Jan 2011] Expense account..

It's a pretty good choice if the aim is to impress, whether for business or dates, etc. Small and cosy enough, with pre-dessert, knowledgeable senior waitstaff and the works...

At the end of the day, I prefer classical french food to the more modern renditions... I've had better (classic) foie gras at a number of other places, though my guest's foie gras ravioli looked very tempting..

For mains, I had the low temperature cooked veal, which I must say was very good.. wished the meat portions were slightly more generous though..

Think I'd think twice before coming here on my own dime though... we paid $700 for 3, including only 3 glasses of "regular" champagne (cos my colleague brought wine from his own vineyard)...

[02 Jan 2011] Some hits, a few misses

Came here after some friends raved about the place, especially the bone marrow... can't remember everything we ordered, but I thought the marrow was nothing to write home about... and in fact, I thought our serving was too large, and got a little sick after a while...

Baked camembert was simple, but nice... suckling pig was a let down... cucumber salad was pretty nice... can't remember what else we had...

Cocktails were good though!
