sushi and sticks

We were there for lunch on a weekday.
Parking is plentiful and shaded, so that really helped.
I think the service was decent.
Food was good. I'm not particularly fussy.

I think if you stick to the sushi on the conveyor belt,
it's pretty much a good deal..

Other dishes you have to order by picking up wooden sticks..
Which is a cool idea, except, you don't feel the pinch
until you see the bill... crafty marketing..
A bit like Marche where they don't make you pay upfront and you
can order as much as you like.

Drinks not too bad, a can of coke is $1.50, Green tea is $0.80.
Some collegues griped that there should be free refills but hey
if the sushi is 99cents.. They are going to charge you for drinks.

Not a bad place for a weekday lunch.

Will go back again!

Oh and there's also a buffet price. Check it out.

YUMMEH

oh cheap japanese buffet111 whats more could you ask for. we paid SGD 17 per pax (student's price) for the tea time buffet (230pm - 530pm). quite a steal really for the amount of food we ordered. we'd three HUGEEEE helpings of sashimi. the salmon, maguro, ebi were the more memorable ones. i usually prefer salmon to the rest, but the maguro here was surprisingly so fresh id three helpings. :D

the chawanmushi was nice too, delectable smooth egg custard served PIPPING HOT!! and so were the shishamos. not that much egg roe, but fat enough for us. oh and i did particularly enjoy the softshell handroll. crunchy seaweed generously filled with softshellcrabs.

the only downside to the whole buffet's probably the limited items of the menu. you get to pick off the conveyor belt tho, the different types of sushi. but if youre a fan of sashimi, this place is probably worth the money!

service was prompt, and we'd free flow of softdrinks and a complimentary (HUGE) cup of watermelon juice per person.

im definitely going back for more sashimi!!

Must Tries: salmon, maguro sashimi and chawanmushi

sushimania

Right after thai boxing session, we headed over to 99cents sushi as she knew I needed to replenish, badly.

We've been there countless times. Sometimes I just wished we should be awarded members' privilege or some reward system for loyal customers like us. =)

Food: Sushis were decent. Nothing of the extraordinary. But when you're hungry, you eat almost everything. And ya, the rice falls off quite easily. At the end of the day you will have to take in alot of sodium as it keeps falling into the pool of soy sauce. Salmon Belly Soup is a mustttttt. I just love the jelly substance on the salmon.

Ambience: Simple and nice. Feels like you are dining in a densely "bambooed" eatery. I love the wood finishings.

Value: It's all about the value in here. But chawanmushi is a tad bit too expensive at $3. My mom makes better ones at the expense of two eggs, 60cents. Also, sushis at 99cents offers a wide variety. You can eat your fill just by ordering one of each. Buffet for students too! On Mon - Fri, 2:30pm - 5:30pm, last order at 5pm. Available at $15.90 if I'm not wrong. You can even order Bacon and lots of other yum.

Service: Not too good, not too bad. Just nice for a small restaurant in the middle of No Man's Land.

To end off, Nihon Mura (Jurong West) is currently experiencing high customers frequency. So be there on weekdays.

Cheap Sushi

99 cents for a plate of sushi.. Cheap! But don't expect anything more.. the rice falls off quite easily..

their ala carte items are not so cheap tho'.. their shishamo looks so malnutritioned.. not enough roe on their stomach.. *sigh*

I was asking my hubby why must I pay them 10% service charge when I have to get the sushi myself, go get the ice-cream sticks myself, and leave the restaurant smelling of BBQ..

Another thing is that their green tea is not refillable.. since they charge 80 cents for a cup of green tea, why can't they just give me the tea bag and refill my cup with hot water?
