Orange jelly custards

The classic combo of jelly and custard never goes out of style. This is one striking dessert that both the young and young at heart will adore.


Recipe serves 4
Difficulty: Easy
Preparation time:5 hours 10 minutes
Cooking time: 8 minutes

1 packet orange jello
1 tin mandarin oranges in syrup (about 300g), drained

For the custard:
2 cups milk
¼ cup sugar
2 tablespoons custard powder


1. Make jello according to packet instructions and pour into one large mould or individual glasses. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours.
2. To make custard, place ¼ cup of milk into a small bowl, along with the sugar and custard powder. Whisk until custard powder dissolves and pour into a heavy-bottom saucepan.
3. Add the rest of the milk to the saucepan and bring to a boil over medium heat, whisking constantly. Once the custard starts to thicken and bubble, remove from the heat and allow to cool.
4. Spoon cooled custard over the cold jelly, then top with mandarin orange wedges. Refrigerate for at least 3 hours.
5. Serve very chilled.
