Went to Island Creamery with 2 friends yesterday after lunch. This place is definitely more value for money than the usual suspects like New Zealand's or Ben & Jerry's.
My friends and I tried about 4-5 flavours, including Soursop, Kahlua, Pulau Hitam, Blackforest. The staff was very obliging and patient. The soursop had a bitter after taste, the Pulau Hitam did not have much taste, the Blackforest was quite refreshing but it tasted a bit too alcoholic, maybe they should name it Tiramisu??

But in the end, we settled with Nutella flavour and Teh Tarik flavour. I think the Teh Tarik deserves 8/10 for the richness in 'tea' taste, but it would be better if it was less sweet. I would have bought the tub if i stayed nearby!!
The Nutella flavour probably gets 6.5/10. I did not really taste like Nutella but it was pleasant and it tasted a little bit like Horlicks.

    Must tries: Teh Tarik Ice-cream!!!

Somebody gave me two tubs of ice cream during my birthday in 2007 – this friend certainly knew what I was craving for.

I still distinctly remember it said ‘Pineapple tart’ ice cream in a cute white little tub. It was a life changing experience. Crunchy butter bits with sweet strips of pineapple danced a waltz with vanilla ice cream, and this new year goodie never tasted the same again.

    The Ambience
Island Creamery is located at Serene Centre, and constantly visited by young people and tertiary students. The girls serving ice cream are usually cute and bubbly, but with an occasional bitchy one (could hear her complain and gossip constantly!).  You may spot the friendly looking owner Uncle Stanley right behind, who started this shop to provide quality local flavoured ice cream.

    The Ice Cream
Chendol, Horlicks, Tiger Beer, Bandung, Burnt Caramel, Black Forest, Apple Crumble, Reverse-O and Cookies & Cream are some of the usual flavours. Many adults would throw their calorie-counter out of their windows (temporary), and get excited over so many favourite childhood dessert flavours.

I heart the Pulau Hitam. Somehow it never registered with me when it’s a hot piping dessert, but the cold creamy version was a familiar and sweet experience. Yummy.

Strangely, I never liked Nutella on my toast, but it being in an ice cream sent bursts of excitement if you want something to compliment your chocolate ice cream.

In my most recent visit, I had a Milo Ping Pong and Teh Tarik combination as I wanted to try how my two flavour drinks would taste frozen. Unfortunately, there were too many marshmallow in the Ping Pong ice cream and the Teh Tarik ice cream lacked a strong tea taste. So it felt neither-here-nor-there.

    The Verdict
With such delicious ice cream, being here is almost always a happy experience.

f i know how to estimate well there's more than 20 flavours to choose from.spare me all those lousy flavours that u know like boring vanillla, plain rasberry, forever only 1 of a kind chocolate. the flavours made available will shock you!my favourite will be teh tarik!but sadly i don have a picture of it. boooooooooooo......i once described the taste of teh tarik ice cream to my boy and he says i sounded like so incredible. whahahaahahah....ok here it goes. i'm sure all of u tasted some different flavoured ice cream like fruits or rum. some might even tried the legendary teh tarik i mentioned. but u will not fail to forget the taste of the one at island creamery.recall the time when the ice cream melts in your mouth, was it after a mouth or 2 that u start to doubt, think, hesitate before you confirme the flavour? yes, that will be when u had eaten lousy quality ice cream. in comparison, island creamery is able to produce ice cream that you won't have to question its flavour. before u even put it in ur mouth, the smell floats to your nose. when it melts in your mouth the flavours burst inside you and u the smell lingers for a while. every spoonful is fresh and 齿颊留香, the xiang refers to 茶香 if u know how to appreciate tea.this was my proud order. apple pie and pulut hitam. both commendable. apple pie tasted great, there were even some crust in the ice cream for the biting sensation. its not the apple pie of macdonalds but those u get in oldern bakery that mummy buys from the neighbourhood shop. pulut hitam was special, a pity i aint a fan of the particular desert. yet i fell in love w this at once. to me it was the little shells of the glutinous that reminded me of the potong red bean ice cream that we all used to eat when we were young. those that stucked in the teeth. (btw, potong no longer taste as good) i guess the memory of eating ice cream is common among children of my age( note the use of the word children). :)

Friday evening and I was craving for some ice-cream! Have always passed by this place and have been meaning to try it, just didn't have the chance to. Dragged my sister out to accompany me. Initially, I wanted to try out Icekimo but since the place was a little off, decided to come by here instead since I know the location.

Place wasn't packed just filled with several school girls and several groups of young adults (2 groups actually). We managed to find a place indoors; the interior is very cozy with a wall filled with pictures of its' patrons. Had 4 flavours; teh tarik, horlicks, cookies & cream and apple pie. I love horlicks as it was really good; sweet, creamy and has the horlicks taste. Even my sister loved it.  Apple pie was alright, Chunks of apple pie crust and apple here and there and had the cinnamon-y apple pie taste. Sister loved the cookies & cream. I tasted a spoon of it and felt that it was very ordinary, like the ones you can get from walls. Teh tarik was not so good, was bitter for me; although it had the teh tarik taste but it lacks the sweetness from the usual mamak teh tarik. I couldnt finish that and threw it away.

service wise - the girls working there are really pretty but they hardly smile. none of them smiled at me! haha, even the girl serving me couldnt afford to smile, she was very fierce looking and i was sort of scared of her. wanted to try some flavours but chicken out after seeing her fierce face & ordered straight away. HAHA! come to think of it they werent very welcoming either, but i wasn't too bothered by their service cause they served me immediately at the counter. however, i do think that they should try to smile.

    Must tries: Horlicks, Apple Pie

Obviously guys are there for something, girls are there for something.
The atmosphere is laid-back, relaxing, normally with the latest hits bopping out of their modest sound system, its a place for youths to come together and just chat over some good ice-cream or rather average tea.
With their eye-catching hiring scheme of pretty girls, its popular amongst the boys, but beyond that the 'home-made' ice-cream is good, but nothing to write to your pen-pals overseas about. However, their teas, coffees, baked Alaska and/or pies are modest at best, and worst, taste pretty hollow and raw; a sign that it has been left out for too long.
For the price and service however, it comes down to how keen are you to get to their abit inaccessible location (especially for non-drivers). Is eating slightly competitively priced ice-cream while viewing the droves of young studying girls or the service worth your time in their relaxing though probably packed interior?
    Personally, probably not.

Is anyone allergic to their raw egg ice-cream or is it just me?

Ordered the ping pong which was Milo ice cream with marshmallow.
Quite frankly the taste was really poor. I wondered if there was any cream in the ice cream. If you don't believe me, just take a teaspoon of the ice cream and put in on a plate. After like 20 mins, you have a brown lump of milo and water around it. Its disgusting.

went there on x'mas day, rushing like mad, place was crowded like f*ck. ordered the first flavor i tried.. sadly didn't get to try more than one, since i was running late & the counter area was super congested w/ a bunch of fat irritating indecisive girls taking their own sweet time to order; guess that's what happens when you become a fan of island creamery; you gorge on their ice cream, & after trying every single flavor, they're all so good, you still just can't decide. :\

anyway, back to the point. i got black forest; satisfied my chocolate craving but thankfully wasn't overly or sickeningly sweet at the end, w/ just the right amount of rum & whatever goes into black forest apart from chocolate. cute decor by the way; very cozy, then again it could've been the claustrophobia. looks pretty child-friendly as well, judging from the kids' drawings all over.

have been bugging buddy to go there to try; still haven't returned yet, but will persevere! more value for money compared to other local ice cream parlors (ie. udders & the daily scoop, all overrated!), would take black forest over udders any other day (& that's saying a lot, since i've tried every single flavor, excl. one or two of the latest releases). definite must try; good luck resisting it in this bl**dy hot weather anyway.

    Must tries: black forest

First time been there and it has been a pleasant experience.

The place is small and crowded but the flow of the crowd is quite fast though, thus not problem finding place to sit if you are willing to wait awhile.

There are many flavours and not all flavours are available everyday.

Available for takeaway in tub too!

The ice-cream taste nice and but I feel it is abit over priced. Maybe if it was $2 per scoop and $3.50 for double, I would have eaten more.

The ambience there is like cafe. Thought it is crowded but people there seems to very polite enough not to chit chat loudly, therefore it is not noise and most important of all there are no stupid radio broadcasting over there. It is a nice place to chill and do some informal discussion.

That place was crowded with children, teenagers.

The icecream there has a lot of unquie favours like holicks and teh terik, pula hitum, etc

There are hit and misses. the pula hitum is nice, the holicks is also nice. the teh terik taste too bitter to me, the black forest taste funny, I dont even know how to describle it. the cookie and cream is ok.

Overall 2.5 for one scoop, 4.5 for 2 is not expensive but not cheap also, but the serviing is quite a large scoop. If you happen to be nearby you can try it out. to be honest I still prefer bens and jerry althouhg it is more expensive
