| Healthy n filling!
Chanced upon this outlet when running some errands in Republic Plaza. Saw the place neatly renovated and wanted to give it a try since since tummy growling...
Ordered a Sandwich set(soup and sandwich) and a cup of tea.
1. Mushroom soup: Soup's creamy and mushroom aplenty, not bad but i prefer it to be slightly more saltish n luckily salt was within reach..
2. Chicken sandwich(recommended by their staffs): Quite good!
Overall, i quite like the food being healthy (since i always prefer Char Kway Teow... Hehe..) n surprisingly, it was quite filling! |

| Yummy!
Its been awhile since my last review.
I was with my family wondering where i can find a quieter place for dinner around Thomson area, suddenly i recalled this cafe near Thomson Plaza which i never had a chance to try!
Once i reached the place, there were only 3 tables, inclusive of us, dining at around 7.30pm on a Thursday. The waitress (which i suspect is the boss) was great, cos when i wanted to order more, she reminded me that i have over-ordered, hehe.. I also asked for a recommendation for a bottle of dark beer.
1. Buckwheat noodle: Nice
2. Fish and chips: Crispy on the outside, fish was nice!
3. Chicken schnitzel: Crispy on the outside, meat was tender, nice!
4. Dark beer: I dont recall the brand but it was nice and fruity!
The ambience has got the 'homely' feel, service and food was great!
By the time we were about to leave at around 8.30pm, the place was almost full! Wow! |

| V nice indeed!
After reading so many reviews of this place, i HAVE to go to this place to try out. Made a phone reservation just in case its full, turns out the place was half filled, maybe because its a weekday evening.
We ordered a 1-for-1 set meal using Citibank's card plus some ala-carte food.
Set dinner:
1. Starters were some asparagus w salad, second set we ordered was a brinjal related salad, both were not bad.
2. For main, we had roasted chicken w mashed potato: the chicken was soft and tender. V nice!
3. 2nd main, we had a pork chop: the meat was slightly on the hard side. I will say its not too bad.
4. 1st dessert was a apple pie w ice cream: V nice!
5. 2nd dessert, i cant remember what it was but it was v nice too! Hehe..
Ala-carte dinner:
1. Mushroom soup w white truffle oil: Heavenly! Lots of mushrooms unlike other places where only a few pcs, soup was thick and creamy too!
2. Portobello Mushroom: V nice!
3. French duck liver: Another v nice starter! Crispy outer yet melt in your mouth!
4. Roasted lamb loin: Medium done w herbs on top. Nice!
Staffs were friendly and attentive. Always on the look-out if u need assistance. |

| Yummy!
Its been awhile since my last review. I have been frequenting this outlet recently almost weekly!
As we usually go there for dinner on weekdays, there isn't a need to book a table. We are always greeted by friendly waiters and waitresses, prompt service for drinks and preparation of 'weapons' for my little one.
Our orders:
1. Daily soup: Im always fascinated with their soup! Rich in flavour and ingredients! BEST!!
2. Beancurd w spinach & seafood: The beancurd's underside has stuffed vege, and beancurd topped with seafood. V nice!
3. Sauteed chicken w mushrooms: Chicken is soft n tender, topped off with 3 types of mushrooms. Another v nice!
My little one always throw away his 'weapons' halfway thru the meal, but the staffs will still smile to my boy, picks up the dirtied 'weapons' and replace w new ones! I always feel bad and 'pai say' that they do that... But i can only say that their service is impeccable!
One thing for sure, whenever i go Ngee Ann City, my first choice for food will always be there! |

| Disappointing!
This place has recently moved to Geylang Lor 27A. Me and my friend was at nearby and abit hungry so i thought maybe give it a try since it moved to this new place.
Seats were plenty, maybe at 2pm, lunch break's over. Sat down for 3mins and was wondering why no staffs asked "What's your order?"(which they do back at old place promptly even though it was packed), so i walked to the counter thinking maybe change of concept. She saw me in front of her and she said: "Have a seat, we will come to you"... Sigh...
Ordered the following and their comments:
1. Soya bean drink: Pretty bland(maybe they forgot to add sugar). Disappointed!
2. You tiao: Crispy. Not bad.
3. Taiwan bun w pork floss: Bun was hard, pork floss was not much. Disppointed!
4. Taiwan mee-sua: Was hoping to find 2 to 3 oysters but none. Disappointed!
To summarise, their standards have dropped tremendously compared to before!
Spoke to another friend about the place, he told me the food was very disappointing(Lucky im not the only one commenting, hehe..) |

| New Year's Eve
Guess its abit too late to write a review about New Yr's eve dinner, but what the heck.
I was browsing for some restaurants that have seats for the day but most of them were fully booked till 9pm, but im starving already at 6pm. So i chanced upon this this pl thru HGW n tried my luck. Phew, i can drop by anytime.
Rushed my way there and had difficulty finding the place. AFter a few u-turns, found tucked in one of those shop houses and faint lights from inside(guess it was becos of frosted glass).
Went in and was surprised to find the whole place almost empty except another table of 2 diners. Looked at the menu, saw a New Yr's eve dinner for 2, tried my luck to order 1 serving instead. The waitress went over to ask, i presumed was the boss, and came back to say "no problem".
So the order and comments:
1. NYE set for one: Nice
2. Pizza w spinach n ham: Nice
3. Suckling Pig: Not bad
My apologies for not remembering all the dishes especially the NYE set. But i must say that their food was pretty nice. Maybe there weren't many diners, so when we talk, echoes can be heard. |

| Annie? Wa lau!
Went IMM with family and friends for some last minute shopping in the evening but decided to have a sumptuous dinner before "exercising". The next thing, we are at Long Beach. After eaten in the past few branches elsewhere, the food here should be of same standard. We ordered:
1. Bamboo Clams - Quite normal
2. 'Kou Kee' vege in superior stock soup - Quite normal
3. Vege in 3types of eggs - Very starchy vegetables n eggs
4. Deep fried beancurd - Not bad
5. Black pepper crab - Something was wrong when i tasted the crab meat, especially oily.. Then my friend said its sesame oil, n lots of it! Half the plate was in sesame oil! Maybe its their so called "Best Pepper Crab!" recipe... But i prefer the drier type
6. Chilli crab - We have had better ones elsewhere
7. Salted fish with Fried Rice - My friend was asking "Where is the salted fish in this plate of yellow rice??" I remembered i saw one piece n tats it!
From the past reviews from the members here, the food there is really pretty sub-standard compared to the other outlets.
Service right up till the last dish was not bad. Captan taking orders was friendly, waitresses were prompt in changing plates once they are filled with crab shells.
I remembered tonight's my turn to pay for dinner, so i went up to the cashier to hand my credit card to foot the bill, but i remembered i said " Hold my card first". Then i settled back at my seat n was about to ask if anyone wants dessert. The next moment, a SENIOR CAPTAIN named ANNIE handed me the bill! I told her "Huh? So fast? Our dinner not done yet, n somemore i wanted to hold the bill". She replied: "Aiyah bill already issued, very messy to take back! U sign first la!"
She hit my button! As I sign, i told her "U SENIOR CAPTAIN HERE? WAT KIND OF ATTITUDE IS THIS" She replied: "U want order somemore, pay again later" I replied "U think i want to order again??"
My friends even said that credit card bill can void first, then re-issue a new bill when done. I replied mayb v messy la... |

| Fusion?
Went w my family to IMM for brunch before shopping. Walked into Cafe Cartel at 11.15am n seated n ready to order. Then the waitress told me breakfast ends at 11am n lunch starts at 1145am. So i asked which meal should we order? She replied: "Only lunch but will be served after 11.45am" WOW!!! What r we supposed to do for the next half hr?...
Walked around IMM, found a place called Streets inthe middle of the mall. Looked at the menu n immdiately relate to HK Cafes n we decided on it.
Was hungry for noodle soup n the menu recommended Wan Ton Noodle. However decided on another noodle and here's our order:
1. Nissin noodle with luncheon meat n egg - Soup was bland, noodle so-so. Luncheon meat n egg ok. The best shock (or maybe im not into chives n fried onions), there is actually chives n fried onions!! I have been to a few HK cafes in SG n HK n i have never seen these stuffs on the noodles..
2. Portuguese Chicken Baked Rice - Smells good. One bite n immediately relate to spiced curry chicken rice with a layer of cheese. Or maybe i have not tasted the actual dish yet so cant compare
3. Mango Pomelo Freeze - Quite ok
4. HK Milk Tea - There r better ones in other HK cafes
I think this outlet got room for much more imorovements before they can be associated with the HK cafes around. With their location in IMM, biz will boom once they improves! |

| Worlds apart + a hair
Finally decided to try this outlet after reading all the reviews here..(Furthermore, its located quite near my place and i've driven past this place many many times)
Booked a table for 730pm for 2+1. I muz thank myself for doing that cos a small tables were taken.
Saw all the food reviewed on the wall n decided on the orders (the food came within minutes after ordered!!):
Fish-head curry - No regret!!
Sayur lodeh - portion big w v nice gravy n soft vege
Mutton cute - Nicely done w soft meat
Suddenly, my wife saw a hair attached onto the mutton! Showed to, i presume is the lady boss, she coolly took the meat away n showed to the kitchen without apologising to us!! Just as we were all praises for this place, this happens...
We ended with dessert(altough we were v v full), banana in puff with vanilla ice cream. Nice! I even ta-pow a mango sticky rice!! (haha!)
Bill came n, i presume is the boss, said mango sticky-rice's on the house cos of the hair factor. Wow!
However, with all the praises, the place is pretty noisy with adults n kids diners filling the room. At times, i can barely hear my wife's voice...
I must say that this place is many many times better than the other restaurant, serving fish head curry too, on the other side of this building. In terms of food, value n service, HOH beats the other!! |

| Food n View
Been there quite a few times before i joined HGW. N w quite a few negative remarks from the members here, just an update at this place.
Went for early lunch today, heavy rain outside. Place was still quite empty at 11am. Sat down n ready to order. After ordering, was quite disappointed not asked for any drinks to start off, so pressed the table's bell for drinks.
Enjoyed the feeling of watching the rain hitting the crusie ships whilst sipping some White Chrysanthemum Tea..
Food came:
Honey crispy eel - my all time fav! Crispy eel, n sweetness just nice.
Spicy Minced Meat LaMian - Quite ok
Siew-mai - Quite good, n the prawns tasted fresh
Custard Bun - V good! The custard fillings are plenty, use a spoon when u bite cos one-bite n all the custard are flowing out!!
Gooseberry Beancurd Pak Choy - my all-time fav! Especially the soup mixed with the vege
3styled Mushroom Rice roll - Quite ok
Service wasnt bad mayb because still quite empty during thta hour. |
