highclass hotpot

jumbo mgmt's fast reaction to consumer feedback has kept this new establishment afloat for a while. when i went there on saturday, they already introduced sets for lunch and dinner. there was only ala carte previously and wasn't very attractive considering a diner had to order everything small thing separately. the dinner set at just 17.80 was brilliant value for money. what with three fresh sizable scallops and prawns, australian wagyu beef, squid, fish, a choice of veg and noodles. :) it was a pleasant surprise. the bak kut teh was good too. no more needing to travel to ng ah sio. :) the fish noodles in a paste squeeze bag form had none of that fishy smell and was nice and light. however, there are items on the menu that would only go with certain soup bases like the ytf selection. jumbo card members would be pleased to know that they may use their points to dine in here. it was a nice dinner that i had and i'd go back again. :)

Must Tries: fish noodles, jumbo pork balls, wagyu beef, scallops

quantity more than quality

eccucino offers a wide spread for their breakfast, lunch and dinner buffet. they have an international selection ranging from japanese sushi to western salads and cold cuts to indian prata and scrambled eggs and chinese congee. for a halal establishment, i have no complaints about their food and in fact, they always have at least one thing i love to eat. the thing about them is that they have a special juice everyday which has different purposes (rich in vitamin C, rich in antioxidants, relieves tiredness) which i think is a really nice touch from the hotel. :)

Must Tries: special juice, scrambled eggs, pasta

bad tummy

i had dinner here last weekend and went for the hsbc set menu. only after i sat down was i informed that the main i wanted was not available and i had to settle for a replacement. the minestrone soup starter was very thin and had little taste. the mains were a different ball game altogether. the seafood omelette rice i had was a mushy tomato mess. the rice tasted like it was leftovers with too much watery content. my friend's hamburg curry rice had a hamburg patty served to her that was almost in two pieces- probably bad effort in the frying or presentation. the curry wasn't thick and only came with two potato and one carrot piece. while dessert wasn't stellar, it was the highlight of my meal with the chocolate french toast. to make matters worse, both of us got bad tummies when we got home.

just my luck?

my family and i just had dinner at the dempsey road outlet on saturday night (8/11) and the food that was served was really not up to standard. i had the scallop in yam ring that was overfried, and served to the table blacker than usual- hardly golden brown, live prawns in minced garlic that was steeped in salt. the sauce wasn't fragrantly salty, it was too salty, and salted fish with diced chicken that was bathed in oil. i was much put off by the amount of oil that collected at the bottom of the dish. something must be done about this. my dinner was suitable ruined by substandard cooking.

Must Tries: geoduck sashimi

student lunch buffet. plus freeflow drinks. it's from 1230 till 4.30/5.30? the good thing about seoul garden is that they dont chase you away. you can just sit and catch up on old times. just like i did with my girlfriend from 1.45 till 5pm. at about 4.30pm you get to taste some of the things from the dinner menu. it's really a good value for money. most of the stuff are fresh. the cooked food has a limited variety but is generally ok. and the ice creams! i like their choices of flavours. the more conventional chocolate, raspberry swirl and cookies and cream. then there's the jackfruit, mango and honeydew. mmm :) it was a good chillout place. if you dont mind the smoke and grease that it. heh.

Must Tries: chicken bulgogi, sliced beef, ice creams!

where should you be? at bigO! there's a promotion for 5 selected desserts or was it 6? they go one for one during this time period from 3-6pm. it was lovellllyyy. yup. the pineapple upside down is one of the selected desserts. the choice of music is strange though. the oldies of the 90s. other than that, lovely wait staff service, yummy desserts, relatively quiet. ahh. my lovely wednesday dessert.

Must Tries: those selected desserts. baileyyyys was good!

affordable

lunch sets. are pretty affordable. i guess the bottomline for choosing jack's place is really that the soups and garlic bread are a lot better than at han's. service is a tad slow. be prepared to take your time for a meal. not recommended if you're pressed for time. :)

chilli crab

even if you make a reservation, there's no guarantee for a seat. which really defeats the purpose really. an 815 reservation got my dinner served at close to 9pm. no complaints about the food here. pretty decent. the mee goreng isnt as oily as the one at east coast. but service is slow. and be very prepared to wait.

alaskan king crab!

this is about as good as uob one for one deals get. when jumbo says to leave by 7.45pm before the next dinner seating, they really give you the bill at 7.45. but here when they say 8.15pm to vacate, they never once brought the bill, nor had intentions to shoo us off. lovely polite waiting staff complemented my dinner here. it wasn't all good though. the popiah tasted off raw minced garlic and was just terrible. the cream corn and crab meat soup had the consistency of glue. and tasted like it. but there were great dishes too. like. the single serving of complimentary chilli alaskan king crab. :) the fresh salmon sashimi and crayfish. fresh drunken prawns. they also had great desserts. the mango cake was light and sweet, belgian chocolate chip ice cream was sublime and they had a lovely hot dessert of red bean and dried longan soup. i could go on. but then i'd ruin the rest of the surprises at dinner. it was a good deal for my money. 'd pay full price to dine here. :)

Must Tries: salmon sashimi, crayfish

labour day

it was our third visit to the lemongrass at heeren and it was still bad. we ordered the deluxe appetizer sampler and it wasn't worth the 30 dollars at all. the spring rolls and toast breads were sadly dry. the table next to mine was complaining about the oil and what have yous for the fried spring rolls they ordered. probably just to get a refund or complimentry desserts. oops. the fishcake didn't have much flavour. where have the herbs gone? the pandan chicken was alright. not much of the flavour. it may as well just be fried chicken. the green curry was salty and definitely required some rice to go along. but there was a substantial amount of chicken meat. they ought to have more vegetable choices. but we got the mushrooms and it was alright. just not worth the price. the tom yam soup was good. in any case, the food came in good time. there wasn't a long wait. :) daddy thinks the one at east coast has way better food that this branch. maybe next time.

Must Tries: chicken green curry
