| Quality En Value
En is one of my favorite dining spots serving reasonably priced, quality Japanese food in a comfortable setting. Judging by the folks I see dining at En, some (if not most) members of the local Japanese community probably share the same sentiment.
Having been here a few times, it's about time I review some of the dishes I've tried @ En.
Sashimi Salad - The sashimi (ikura, salmon, tuna and a coupla slices of swordfish) was reasonably fresh but I'm not a fan of rocket and purple cabbage..
Salmon and Avocado maki - Avocado and lettuce wrapped with a translucent paperish "skin" and salmon. Thought the paperish "skin" thingy was a creative touch. Taste-wise, no complaints either ;)
Seasonal grilled river fish with salt - couldn't recall the name of the fish but it's palm sized length-wise, with very powdery, soft flesh, with the taste enhanced by the sprinkling of salt. The grilling was done perfectly as its skin wasn't tough either. FYI, do not eat the fish tail on its own unless you're looking to get immediate hypertension from the the salt coating it! A cup of green tea isn't enough to dilute the effects!
Soft Shell Crab - Light as paper, not too oily and crisp even after some time =)
Unagi fried rice - Served in a long bamboo plate about an arm's length. Marks for presentation but could do better with the dish as the rice was a little too oily..and the portion isn't enough unless you're on Atkins.
Tuna tataki- Sashimi grade tuna seared at the sides and generously sliced. Well matched with the ponzu (i think) dressing.
Skewered Scallops - 2 sticks of 3 scallops each. Tender as they're kinda undergrilled but still a tad too oily. Prefer my scallops in sashimi form.
Skewered Enoki with bacon - you really can't go wrong with grilled bacon ;)
En's not really ideal for a romantic first date, given the rather umm cosy seating and sake drinking neighbors (yes, it's still a bar) could make it kinda hard to hear your date~

ice on Kaisan Fine Dining: service par excellence ermm....I think Kaisan is closed long long long time ago. Now Chef Thomas is wielding his sushi knife at Tomo Fine Dining at Marina Square.
