| Fresh cheese, Salty pasta - what should I make of it?
My first visit to Valentino - have to admit I was rather disappointed and it would take me quite awhile before I decide whether to go back..
Warm white bread served with a dip I guess to be parsley pesto, which was mild and pleasant. Seemed like a good start.
1) Burrata - fresh Italian cheese, made from mozzarella and cream. Outer pouch is mozzarella while the inside contains both mozzarella and cream.
A relatively large portion, it was served with marinated Cherry Tomatoes air-flown from Sicily and Mesclun - the flavors of olive oil, balsamic vinegar and salt blended well.
A strand of hair was discovered half-way and the dish (half portion still there) was whisked away quickly. However, we were still charged full price. Didn't feel like quibbling.
2) Squid ink pasta with Creamy Crabmeat Sauce
Pasta was al-dente which we liked and the sauce with small chunks of crabment was quite pleasant. However, the cream sauce started to thicken as we went along, and it became a little cloying. Slightly salty.
3) Fresh pasta with Wild Boar Ragu
Off menu special. We didn't like this at all. Firstly, the ragu was very salty and tasted rather gamey, which would have been fine if there were flavors of red wine or herbs, even onion to come through. However, it was just plain salty + game-y.
We requested for extra white bread AFTER the meal to combat this.. thus no room for dessert.
Service was good, but we prefered a certain waitress to a certain waiter, as the former seem more helpful and comfortable to converse with.
When I asked (the waiter) if they had any warm desserts, he said no.. later, I read from a review below that they have creme brulee, which technically is not served warm but nevertheless should have at least been suggested.
Final note is that we left disappointed and wondered if we should return anytime soon to give it a second chance.
