Finally - a decent lunch spot

I have been to Rocks twice for lunch in the last 3 weeks, and ordered a takeaway once for dinner.  Am well chuffed to know that an air-conditioned spot for a good sit-down lunch is possible just within 5 min walking distance from the office (at ORQ).

I had the pizza each time I dined at the Rocks.  The pizzas are well-sized for sharing between two pax.  I especially like the Limestone Calzone ($21) but I get them to do it pizza style (ie non-folded) which allows for easier sharing.  Love the crust and the dough which they use for their pizzas - easily one of the better ones in town.  The salads are competent - I have tried both the rocket salad ($14) and the tomato and mozzarella salald.  Both are also good for two.

Ambience is great for a working lunch.  The place is flushed with natural light with a detailed enough view of the Sands casino for you to place your opinion about whether or not the place can really open in time for 2010.  But I digress.

Service is friendly and efficient enough especially for those who don\'t have the luxury of a long lunch hour.  The 6 for service is really because for some reasons both times we were there they mucked up our order (the first time they served a fish dish which we clearly said we changed our minds about when we placed our order; the second time they forgot all about the drink and only remembered when it came to paying the bill).

Definitely one of those places to go to when you want to beat the crowd and have a really satisfying good meal and have had enough of Asian Kitchen and the like.

on Rocks Urban Grill + Bar: Finally - a decent lunch spot
I\'ve been there a few times too. Never had the pizza; always the set lunch (with one exception). The set lunch has always been pretty good all considered - they clearly know the constraints they are working with and do very well within them. The one time we ordered a la carte wasn\'t so good, though: the rib-eyes were tough and the risotto was too salty. Needless to say, it cost rather more than the set as well. Next time I\'ll try the pizza: that calzone looks very tasty.

on Outback Steakhouse: Hardly Australian...oh, the travesty of it all
outback is an american mid-tier chain. Portions are much bigger and beef much better in the USA. Don't bother with the Spore place guys....
