cheap treat in orchard!

First thing first... i tink my gal pal n i r super duper formidable!! Wahaha..why? coz two teeny weeny gals chomping down 2 tables full of food ... i tink we r super duper powerful! wahahaha *proud idiot smiles*...

Haha anyway came to Hua yi after reading some reviews n was looking for some nice xiao long baos other than e usual Crystal Jade / Din Tai Fung ones... The shop is a teeny weeny shop in e ulu international building and it's really small with juz 8 tables... owner seems to b from PRC n crowd = locals + PRC as well so there's muz b some degree of authenticity i guess...

We two teeny weeny gals had e cold beancurd with century egg ($5) to start with.. pretty refreshing appetitzer with smooth tofu but toppings of century eggs n preserved veggies sld b more though..

we had e much raved abt zhajiang mian or minced meat noodles ($5) which i tink is quite delightful.. e Q-ness of e noodles r juz so-so but i gotta agreed tat e sauce is really quite nice n juz nice.. not too sweet or salty!

a surprise find is e stewed beef porridge ($6) which is pretty good.. e congee lacks e smoothness of say crystal jade but e stewed beef is very tender n flavourful! with a generous dose of e a tad salty stewed beef sauce .. this makes one tasty porridge!

U tink tat's all we had? of coz not! we had e xiao long baos (6pxs $6) and honestly i'm aint too impressed at all.. e skin is a bit too thick n tough n e soup not so yummy.. i still tink Crystal Jade's better (even shanghainese tinks CJ's ones r e nicest in Shanghai itself!).. slightly disappointed with e XLBs..

we also had e guo tie (8 pxs - $6).. 8 pretty big-sized guo ties crispily fried with delicious fillings.. i tot this is a very good deal n definitely must order! we were thinking hell ... might as well order e steamed dumplings as well! there's steamed n boiled but we took e steamed version (duno wat's e diff - 6pxs $6) but sorta regretted it coz i dun like it...not as lovely or delicate as i expected..

there's charges on e wet towels ($0.30) e mini stewed peanuts appetizer ($1.50) which is slight ex but e pxs r generally pretty reasonable here so no complains.. i wouldn't say e food is fantastic but it's quite alrite for a cheap n tasty treat in orchard!

Must Tries: stewed beef porridge n guo tie n zha jiang mian

e chicken beats e cow n e fish...

The Far East / China Sq area makes a good choice for lunch affairs in the biz district... The Straits is juz one of e many drinking holes tat offer set lunches for e working lunch crowd... Set lunch choices r few and simple.. u can have e grilled chicken leg or fish n chips or beef goulash at $7.50 nett n a $2 top up for either a soup or a drink...pretty decent deal..oh n of coz beer if u wana numb youself for e work day ahead.. ha!

Of all e 3 choices... i would strongly recommend the grilled chicken leg... to b honest i dun usually order chicken items coz i'm alwaz leaning towards beef n seafood but trust me.. e chicken beats e cow n e fish this round! i've tried e beef goulash on my 1st n it's pretty disappointing.. it all tasted very straight from e can n i totally hated e taste... even e bread tat comes along tasted so stale.. yucks! dun order this!

on my 2nd visit .. my fren had e fish n chips n it looked pretty decent though.. pretty big portion n it looks kinda plump n crispy.. however e comment at e end of e meal was tat it's soooo oily tat it makes u go yucks as well!

i had e grilled chicken leg n it looks good.. pretty decent sized of boneless (hooray!) chicken leg tat's quite nicely grilled with fries n e best part? it came with a black pepper (?) brown sauce on e side! i liked sauces coz it alwaz add some dimension to a dish.. n although e sauce here is nothing fabulous... it's quite a nice touch to e chicken!

i would normally have e soup as well to start n e cream of mushroom is not too bad... slightly salty but at least it's not campbell's boring cream of mushroom.. for this u can taste bits n pieces of mushrooms in it so tat's good for me!

overall not a bad place for having a chicken lunch...tat's all....

Must Tries: grilled chicken leg?

Nah.....

Honestly? It's juz OK.. despite e fancy setting and fancy food... e standard is really not up to par.. it's not below par but defintely not up to par.. yes yes i see your confused faces since it's being raved by other reviewers so y am i being e lone opposition? trust me .. i do very much wana rave abt e place ... in fact i'm not exactly dissing e place.. it's juz tat ... it's really not that good!

Located on e newly renovated 5th floor of Heeren (yup e food floor)... it's interesting tat a canton /grandma's cooking joint pops out amidst names like waraku, thai express, fish n co etc.. Definitely a happy choice for those cheena food eaters n well.. e uncles n aunties!

Ambience-wise... it's pretty interesting to see chic black tables n chairs n cutlery settings against roast ducks hanging in e background.. wat a cute sight! in heeren no less! Kudos to e wide variety of items from roast ducks to fried rice to stingrays n kudos to e ever attentive wait staff as well...

Starting with e famed ducks... we had e granny's roast duck (small $11.80 ) and sour plum roast duck (small $12.80) ..i would say e ducks r pretty alrite...i prefer e sour plum ducks as it's more crispy n tasty! would b great if it comes with some sour plum sauce to dip into though.. e granny's version is a little boring for me n it pales in comparison to other "outside" ducks places..

we had e century n salted egg congee ($5.90) n sadly e congee is quite tasteless not smooth n is not infused with e strong flavours of e salted n century egg.. e DKJ fried rice ($9) is juz alrite...lacked e wok hei so nothing to shout abt.. we had e fish maw with bonita flakes soup ($16) which seems like a novelty but tasted "not so good" as my fren commented..

e granny's pork ribs ($11.80) is pretty decent but forgetable... i kinda liked e bacon wapped prawns ($14.80)! although it's a bit too heavily battered but i liked e fact that u can taste e salty bacon n yummy prawn top with e salad dressing .. quite a yum! (although e salad dressing is a tad too cold!)

we also had e much raved abt salted egg french beans ($7.80) which is quite lovely.. well coz i lurve salted egg but sadly e french beans r pretty independent of e salted egg.. it's a dry version..(was thinking of wet version of french beans coated with salted egg but it's more like topped with salted eggs).. still quite refreshing though..e canton eggplants with chai po ($8.80) is also not too bad.. again e eggplants r quite independent of e toppings ie not infused with e flavours but i liked e toppings! quite yum!

overall i'm ain't too impressed by dai ka jie... e place is quite nice but e food really ain't that good... it's really juz ok-ok ... however heeren is never known for a place with great food so it's good for e heeren crowd if u know wat i mean...

Must Tries: i duno erm.. bacon wrapped prawns?

Ichibantei ichiban?

After a well deserved break from ramen... "WAT? a break from ramen? how DARE u?!?!?" screeched imaginary ramen fans..haha cmon guys! there's oni sooooo much ramen a gal can eat !! any more n i would b ordering ramen in my sleep!! zzz one shoyu ramen pls zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz (wahahaha i know i know.. very lameeeeeeeeee but admit it! it's funny! hehe..)

Anyway moving on... getting back on my ramen craze.. i've decided to try out ichibantei at e china square branch! I've been to e robertson quay branch ages ago n all i can remember is tat e normal shoyu ramen is not bad but e tantan ramen is weird! call me an old-fashioned ah ma but i've alwaz preferred e good old stuff.. any funny variations is out for me..

With ichibantei adding to the ramen scene in raffles place (tink baikohken kyonichi beppu n sushi tei even)... office ppl r spoilt for choices! (okie not really.. oni baikohken rocks!) so is ichibantei ichiban?

Ambience-wise there ain't any.. juz a typical eatery setting... ichibantei has never set out for a authentic ramen joint look (tink baikohken) but more of a commercialised wide variety jap place (tink tampopo).. menu-wise it offers a greater variety from una don to steamboat ramen? to e usuals.. so great for those lunching with non-ramen eaters..

I had e tonkutsu ramen ($12) and wat i liked abt this is that it's sooo flavourful! i lurve both shoyu n tonkutsu soup based so gimme tat n i'm a happy gal... tonkutsu is a white broth ... more milky creamier n hence slightly heavier... it's actually quite delish n i happily slurped it all up! e noodles on e other hand is quite a disappointment... way too starchy! (although santouka's e worst in starchy noodles!) i did not like e noodles at all... e cha siew is very yummy for e 1st few bites but it's terribly salty.. even me who lurve salty food tot it's a little over.. e egg is quite yum so no regrets when i unknowingly ordered an extra egg... overall i do like e soup but with a heavier soup base + starchy noodles + salty cha siew = slightly argh! or as my friend said .. "not so shiok!"..

we also had e agedashi tofu which is quite lovely indeed so a good side if u r sick of e usual gyozas.. there's e free flow of water (much needed) and funnily free flow of preserved veggies? .. so great to munch n work out an appetite while u wait!

overall i felt that my experience at robertson's left me a happier gal while china sq's left me damn thirsty.. but it's not a bad place if u wana have a greater variety though... if i wana get my tonkutsu fix? head to nihon ryori at mod sultan!

ichibantei? not so ichiban...

Must Tries: erm u can try e tonkutsu ramen though

Definitely quantity over quality...

With 128 items on offer...it's absolutely mind-boggling! With written descriptions but no pictures??? make tat super duper mind-boggling!!! Haha juz joking... but does the food boggles your mind and taste bud? Nah...

Kudos to Hanabi for offering 128 items in a very clear systematic although pictureless menu.. it's pretty easy to order actually.. there's e sashimi corner.. e maki corner.. e sushi corner... e handroll corner..e skewers corner.. e soup corner... e rice n noodles corner.. e hotpot corner.. e deep fried corner and e popular items corner.. e resto is actually quite nicely done up n even had a sushi bar where u can see e chefs doing up your sashimi n sushi.. nice touch..

Starting with e sashimi corner we had e sashimi platter.. beautifully presented it comes with e selection of say 8 sashimi? such as salmon tuna octopus squid yellow tail etc.. i wouldn't say it's super duper fresh but it's fresh (tink sakae sushi standard)..i particularly like e cuttlefish! good value for $$$ esp if u purely attack e sashimi!

e makis r pretty average.. dun expect it to b fantastic (tink edo sushi standard).. it comes in 6 pieces so dun over order if there's like juz 2 of u! e sushis r normal as well although i found e cod roe salad inari quite interesting .. e handrolls r alrite.. seaweed not so crispy but there's a few tat's pretty yum eg salmon avocado... we also had e seasoned octopus.. this is quite good as we had many many portions of it!

we also had e skewer platter tat comes with shisamo grilled mushroom n grilled chicken... nothing outstanding although we had a few more shisamo.. e tempura platte is not too bad.. lightly battered prawns n veg fritters.. do order a few of this! e agedashi tofu is not bad.. we had a couple of chawanmushi as well.. e spicy salmon is actually quite nice although e chilli mayo is pretty much like garlic chili sauce..

we also had a bowl of fried rice with eel which is quite tasty n goes well with e plate of stir fried beef with teppan sauce.. we also had e pork belly soup salmon soup n kimchi soup... it comes in a small bowl n i tink oni e salmon one is decent...

Don't bother mentioning e rest coz it kinda sux.. e food comes in real teeny weeny portion which is good coz u can have a taste n order more later if it's good but bad coz it looks so totally unappetizing n it kills e mood! (tink 1 piece of lone shisamo)!

At $33++ or $39/pax it's actually very pricey for e quality of food.. unless u consume in hugh quantity or juz purely attack e sashimi n tempuras.. u will pretty much lose out.. would not recommend this place to anyone although it's a good place for people who can dunk a million sushis!

oh n they do have a complimentary dish of garlic scallops n fish roe sushi.. n gota say e service is pretty good..

p.s.: got citibank 10% off?? kaoz didn't know...

Must Tries: erm maybe e sashimi n tempura platters n seasoned octopus?

Wat a delightful little find!

Yum yum korean charcoal BBQ with juicy fat beef and sizzling pork belly!! Located along T.Pagar road it's easy to go huh? which one? esp when there's a ton of korean restaurants dotted along e stretch.. but no worries.. juz go along with e shop number n u will find e place! (nearer to neil road)

Opened by Koreans.. e guy boss of this relatively unknown resto is this real frenly chap who seems real happy n high (haha no offence but it's so un-korean if u get wat i mean.. tink jap hehe) tat his enthusiam can b felt from e moment i called to make a reservation to when i'm placing orders.. e lady boss on e other hand is erm stern n fierce - looking (erm very korean if u get wat i mean haha).. e wait staff is mostly from e philippines n is definitely better than ahem e cheenas.. e dinner crowd is mostly koreans (in fact we r e oni sporean table!) n tat muz speak volumes for e authenticity of e food here!

The shop is surprisingly beautifully decorated with chic n modern in mind... forget abt typical korean restaurants and tink black furniture with white walls n a stunning glass cabinet display n lighting! there's even an upstairs where a hugh group of young koreans were having fun!..

The variety of food is pretty good from e BBQ meats with beef to pork to chicken.. e stir-fry such as bulgogi .. e standard korean fare of bibimbap n seafood pancake to steamboat or casserole... prices range from e 20s to the 30s... The appetizers were not as extensive as say jang shou with juz 6-8 n is actually not tat appetizing nor exciting..

First up we had e bulgogi beef ($22).. this is wonderful! instead of stir-frying in front of us they decided to do it in e kitchen which is fine coz it's real yummy! oni grump is tat it's not served in hot pot so it got cold quickly but it's very flavourful n it goes great with e rice! this is one of e best bulgogi beef i've had!

Next we had e US prime pork belly ($25).. juz 5 slices of e pork belly seems a bit pricey but when it's cut up into smaller pieces it dun look so bad.. wrapping it in e lettuce is a great idea coz e crispiness n e slight oilyness of e pork belly is balance out nicely... not a fan of pork belly so can't say if this is fantastic but it sure is not too bad!

The marinated US prime short ribs without bones ($35) is juz sooooooo succulent n juicy n delicious! this is YUM! it's so yummy to pop one into e mouth! do not over cook it though so tat it still retains e juices n tenderness.. it goes well with rice on its own or juz wrap it up n pop it in! i dun normally use e green chilli or garlic provided coz i tink it will ruin e taste (too many flavours la) but tat's juz me...the beef is quite thick n is a good portion so very well worth e price tag! it comes with a steam egg as well...

Lastly we had e casserole ($30).. we chose e one with ham n sausages n rice cakes n mushrooms n tang hoon n ramen in a kimchi soup base.. e charcoal grill is now transformed into e gas version so tat we have a steamboat going on! e soup is flavourful not too too spicy n is quite tasty! it's quite a big pot / plate so it's totally worth it! by the end of e meal... e 4 of us r soooooooo full!!

Overall It's a good n lovely meal in a chic korean joint.. the beef dishes r real good n e casserole is a hit.. ..but e appetizers is a miss.. do give this place a try!

Must Tries: marinated US prime short rubs without bones

is e moo worth e moolah?

Morton's e steakhouse needs no introduction for one e name is pretty self-explanatory rite?? (dud!) and two simply becoz it's already sooo famous! Dining at morton's aint exactly easy on e wallet much less pigging out at morton's... so is e moo worth e moolah?

Stepping into Morton's is an experience on its own.. tink dark solid wood dim lightings n soft music created a cozy yet intimate ambience... lovely for a romantic dinner.. seated at e cushion booth seats defintely makes my day n makes a great corner for being lovey-dovey and to "spy" on e other tables! Ha!

Lovely waitress came with a trolley of raw items ie diff cuts of beef n rattled off a "menu speech" while robotically pointing to e items and flashed a dazzling smile at e end of it.. okie we went huh? n whispered to each other "wat e hell is she talking abt?".. haha but we knew wat we wanted so no worries...

For a start we had e complimentary onion loaf.. it's hugh! Crispy on e outside warm n soft on e inside with a subtle onion flavour coupled with melted butter is quite a treat! We know tat we should not stuff ourselves with e bread for we had erm over-ordered .. (haha yes e nice waitress stressed tat e portions r hugh n tat 2 soups 2 appetizers n 2 steaks might b too much n so we axed a soup!).. tat said it's still quite a feast for two so stuffing ourselves silly with e onion loaf is probably not a smart idea but we are HUNGRY! so hungry we chomp down half e bread.. hehe oops!

The lobster bisque is quite lovely indeed.. split into 2 portions i tot this is one of e better lobster bisque i had.. very rich n flavourful with lobsters pieces floating around.. nice! silly boyfriend dipped more bread into e soup! argh no more bread! For starters we had e scallops wrapped in bacon and e shrimp cocktail.. though fresh n succulent seafood.. i wasn't wow over by e appetizers at all.. i tot it was nothing fantastic but juz decent though..

I know it's pretty silly to order 2 steaks instead of 1 to share but when u r at a moo house .. u gotta check out e moos rite? We had e ribeye steak and e single cut filet mignon n both medium rare...Morton's moos r definitely beautifully seared n charred on e outside n warm n pink n juicy on e inside..lovely! Having such pui pui fat steaks on e table sure makes one salivate with big wide eyes... for hungry people.. make tat damn hugh wide eyes! Without further ado.. we attacked! I personally preferred e fillet mignon to e ribeye while my bf basically lurve anything tat's meat.. e filet mignon is extremely tender n with e juz right amount of fats.. extremely juicy! lurve this! e ribeye on e other hand is a bit too fatty for us... way too much fats n veins.. i lurve my fats in my steaks but somehow this dun work for me.. do pair it with a glass of red wine though.. absolutely yum!

we had e creamy mashed potatoes n sauteed mushrooms as sides as well and they r yummy! e creamy mashed potatoes is super duper rich n creamy! i likey! e sauteed mushrooms r quite nice n add textures to e steaks...

Amazing we did finished our steaks! n much to e amusement of our waitress.. we decided to have desserts as well! okie after much advice it became dessert.. e morton's hot choc cake is fabulous! warm choc ozzing out of e cake is quite divine! i wouldn't say it's legendary but it's pretty good!

Overall Morton's a great place to have a lovely dinner n have some lovely steaks! e fat steaks do match e px tags so is e moos worth e moolahs? i do tink so!

Must Tries: lobster bisque, filet mignon

Chic -ky place with a twist!

If u have been reading my reviews (pls dun tell me no one... boohoohoo..) u would know tat my recent craze is e ramen binge (which has pretty much died down) and frequenting robertson walk / mod sultan area... why? u might ask? simple! coz tat area do host some of e yummiest food around!

Loving both Jap and Italian cuisine... it's great tat there's a nice italian resto in this jap restos dominated area.. I can easily n literally hop to Menya Shinchan to get my ramen fix.. hop to Sugisawa for a lovely bento or hop to Cugini for an italian affair!

So wat's up with Cugini? For a start the decor is interesting... deviating from e usual cozy italiano joints (tink pasta brava).. Cugini offers a chic n modern dining ambience.. stepping into Cugini would 1st bring u to e lounge bar.. with cozy plush cushions and an illuminated full bar.. u would b like..so where do i eat?!?! haha stepping further into e resto would finally bring u to e dining tables.. Chic would be e word to describle e decor n ambience n wait staff decked out in black providing excellent service ! But is e food chic as well? Let's find out!

For a start e chef do send out complimentary starters to all diners.. which is a nice gesture but i dun rem wat izzit.. some potato n cheese thingy which is quite tasty! For our own start.. we had e bianca pizza ($19) to share... it's e 1st time e 3 of us had a cream based pizza with mozarella n ham n mushroom.. interesting! it's a nice change from e usual tomato based version n to our surprise.. it's quite lovely! although it would b lovelier if they r more generous with e toppings.. do add a dash of e chilli oil to spice up e pizza!

For mains i had e potato truffle ravioli ($27).. it's freshly made truffle and potato ravioli with walnut butter n parmigiano.. beautifully presented in a row of 6 (yes oni 6!).. but oh my god this is delicious!!! i gotta say tat e filling is really smooth n creamy n full of flavours! i was deciding over e ossobuco ravioli or e potato ravioli coz i wanted meat but i'm glad i chose e potato ravioli coz it's so rich n yum! absolutely heavenly!

We also had e crispy bacon spaghetti ($26) artistically twisted into a nice heap.. e salty crispy bacon is a nice twist from e usual juz throw into e pan bacon.. e crispy texture brings some fun to e tasty pile of tomato chessy spaghetti! Needing more meat in e picture (haha...) we had e milanese veal cutlets ($39) served with baby potato salad n custard sauce.. i'm not a fan of this as although e meat is tender n pink.. i do not find it flavourful at all... not sure wat e outer coat is made of but other than e refreshing salad.. i'm not too impressed by e veal cutlets..nah..

Ending on a sweet note.. the white chocolate panna cotta ($15) is wonderful! e panna cotta is wonderfully infused with e white choc flavour yet it do not come across as too sweet as e raspberry sauce do counter a little..The hot chocolate fondue cake ($15) is again tastefully presented n ozzing hot choc makes me go gaga! sinfully delightful although it's not e best i had...

Exquisite presentation and interesting twists do make e food as chic as e ambience.. however e portions could b a tad more generous to match e px tag.. perhaps e portions r meant for a full blown starter main n dessert itinerary...so for those looking to fill your tummy with juz e mains u might really wana order more or u will go hungry!

If u r looking forward to attacking a hearty plate of italian pasta with great gusto..Cugini's not for u.. But if u r looking for a chic n classy italian fare with exquisite presentations.. come to Cugini!

psst! there's a 15% discount for Citibank credit cards!

Must Tries: truffle n potato ravioli , white choc panna cotta

Pleasantly surprised....not too bad la

I've never had Myanmar food before coz one i've never been to Myanmar and two.. is there even myanmar food in Singapore?!?!? Call me mountain tortoise but surprisingly there is! It's wonderful tat inle has restaurants in peninsula plaza and marina sq and an affordable authentic menu thus bringing myanmar cuisine and culture closer into the hearts (n fat tummies) of Singaporeans!

Honestly i might not have tried it out if not for e fact i saw it on Makansutra...I've tasted Thai, Cambodian n Viet food but not their close neighbour Myanmar's.. Being quite an adventurous eater (hehe self-claimed can?).. i decided to grab another adventurous eater to check out inle!

The resto is beautifully decorated with a casual yet chirpy feel with a beautiful menu as well (tink thai express).. There's a wide variety of makans on offer... from appetizers to rice n noodles dishes to desserts n drinks! Absolutely reasonably priced makes it an attractive dining option esp in this financial turmoil!

To my delight, there's even a very affordable set dinner which includes an appetizer a main n a drink priced at $12.90+ only! with an additional $2 u could have a dessert as well! For my set i ordered e fried gourd, seafood glass noodle and tamarind juice while my friend had e pork sausage, butter rice with myanmar pork curry and myanmar hot milk tea.. for juz $12.90 each...it's cheap! We decided to share our feast and hence added another must-try dish - e moun hin ga..

The appetizers were a hit and a miss.. e fried gourds fritters were surprisingly a hit! okie fried gourd??? haha but since e much acclaimed century egg salad is out (so sad..) it turned out to b a delight! e refreshing sweet gourd balance out e spicy fish gravy dip nicely hence making it a yum! do order this! e pork sausage is a miss... too tough and tasteless.. dun bother ...

The mains were e surprise delights.. e seafood glass noodles had e wok hei taste to it..cool! it's not bad but not that great either.. unfair but i tink thai express one is better..e butter rice with myanmar pork curry is quite nice.. although pork is a little tough n e curry slight oily.. e dry curry is quite yummy n goes well with e butter rice! quite appetizing!

A must-try is the moun hin ga ($6.50)! a representation of true-blue traditional myanmar fare.. do not miss out on this noodles in fish gravy laden with banana tree stems eggs n fish cakes.. e taste is a total surprise! it looks ..erm weird but surprisingly it tasted like penang laksa to me while like mee soto to my friend! haha.. but might b good idea to share this dish instead..

Overall it's quite a pleasant surprise although i do not know wat to expect in e 1st place.. Not too sure if i would return but do give myanmar cuisine a try n oh the myanmar milk tea n tamarind juice is quite nice as well!

Must Tries: fried goud fritters, mohinga

yucks yucks yucks!!! Not fresh!!!

I certainly did not have an enjoyable time at Modesto's!! why?? coz the food SUX!!! " mental note to self *do not be nasty!* ".. okie okie ppl let me re-phrase.. e food do not sux.. e food juz SUX BIG TIME!!! Why? Basically becoz the food is not fresh at all... total disappointment total waste of stomach space n total waste of $$$...

I had visited Modesto's at Orchard Parade a couple of times in e past and had tot tat e food though not fabulous is still alrite.. horrible no but forgettable yes.. Having to dine at Vivo is alwaz a headache.. long queues n lousy food but i tot an old name like modesto's would at least save e day but boy am i wrong!

We had e calamari fritti ($15.50) or fried calamari in some modesto's batter... well this kinda sux.. normally i would expect e calamari to b fully coated with e batter.. instead e batter is lightly battered.. tat's fine but it's sooooo light that there's oni a few patches of batter on a calamar ring (v botak!) and once u pick it up... all e batter juz fell off n u r left with ..well a naked calamari ring! e calamaris r very verrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrry chewy... it's like dipping super duper fat rubber bands in tar tar sauce! WTH!

The linguine alla carbonara ($18) was not e authentic version but rather e creamy cream cream version.. which is fine except that e pork bacon tasted totally like cardboard! okie tat sounded stoopid but it's exactly like it sounds! imagine having a whole plate of cardboard tasting pasta! they should really re-named it as linguine alla cardboardnara!

The all-time favourite speciality linguine alla modestos ($24) consisted of fresh prawns, squid, mussels, a piece of crab, olives, anchovies and capers.. fresh is wat they say but fresh is not wat we got! okie granted e prawns r fresh.. erm well tat's it!!! e crab meat is mushy-mashy e clams had a bad taste to it e squids r like brothers-in-hand with e aboved calamari n e mussels r so not fresh! yes e portion is surprising generous for e px tag but i would rather pay more for a small plate of good stuff than a big plate of crap! With not fresh seafood... can u imagine wat a wonderful dish this is?

Now now i do not mean to thrash Modesto's for there's a couple of good points though.. the crema di funghi $10.50) is delightful! The lovely staff offered to spilt e big bowl into 2 portions so tat we would have a small bowl each.. lovely gesture.. n i gotta say e soup's good.. creamy n rich mushrooms soup with pieces of tasty mushrooms in it.. yum! n the staff r quite nice as well.. they r busy but we still managed to get their attention n requests r promptly met so it's great!

Everything went downhill after as e sub-quality food came out one after e other.. with a lovely start of mushroom soup..we were quite forgiving on e calamaris n when e pastas arrived .. we were way too hungry to send it back... seriously can u imagine e wait on a crowded Friday dinner crowd? too hungry to think clearly.. we tried to juz gobble up wat we can since we r in a rush n although we r full..we r not satisfied..

Anyway... won't be heading back to Modesto's ever coz it's juz NOT WORTH GETTING FAT OVER!!! hmph!

Must Tries: to get fresh ingredients!
