| Getting better..but where are the people??
My 2nd or 3rd time here i think, can't fault the food this time and the service was good. Great mixed platter with a range of tasty starters. I had the steak fajitas which are hard to beat although a touch stingy with the meat..lots of onions though. Missus had the gumbo which was hot and not too spicy.
Good selection of wines, very nice merlot by the glass!
OK it's not genuine tex/mex but better than the slop served up at places like chachacha
Saturday night 830pm...place was pretty quiet as were all the resaurants in this strip including the new ones at the back...This time last year, you could not get a seat or a parking spot..:( |

| Waiter got on my tits
Decent enough place for a business lunch, we both had the same thing..lamb skewers and glass of wine but every 5 mins the waiter would butt into our conversation..more bread, more water, everything ok etc..well we all like attention but this was ridiculous. Decided to have desert and coffee elsewhere. |

| The usual service issues
Went along for some farewell drink for a friend who is leaving town for a year or two. Parked in a real obscure spot near car park.
Waiter didnt know what Perrier was so we ordered other fizzy water and plain water arrived instead. My mohito was the worst i've ever tasted and when i complained it came back..with more ice and booze so just tasted worse!!
Choose a wine eventually..ordered red and white arrived sigh...
Music waaay too loud, waiters too scarce and untrained. Nice venue though but location next too KFC and burger joints will be an issue.... |

| Go big or go home
Firstly let me say that this is a big place, lots of rooms, 3 floors, different bars..the lot!
As usual it suffers from a lot of hype.
Dinner with colleagues, we all met outside on the patio and ordered a few snacks and drinks. I love mohito's and what a great idea! a round of mohitos were ordered. Not the worst one on the planet but as near as damn it. 80% ice, 10% booze and 10% water (melted ice as it took forever top arrive..not a great start. SSnacks were ok but the 1 meter sausage was a shriveled up old banger and tasted like it had been on the grill for a week.
Inside for dinner i ordered the curried veg. it came presented in a bacofiol wrapping and was exactly as ordered..a few lonely veg floating in a curry sauce. well you get what you ask for in this place!
2 of my colleagues odered the spicy fish and chips. Not bad but the fish is not big...it's tiny!! maybe 8cm square. Diet lovers will do well here..
All in all, a good concept but more variety, bigger portions, less ice in the drinks needed to entice me back. I did like the service though, attentive waiters are a godsend in this town!! |

| A winner...usually
One of the top brunches in Singapore if you believe the hype...Overseas friends in town so thought we would give it a spin.
You can't fault the service here and the variety is huge. The champers comes with the price and we gave it a mighty dent between 5 of us but we had 3 non-drinkers and we didnt get the chance to get a non-champagne choice. Needa a tweak i guess but can't complain.
Beef and yorkhire pud was bliss as was the seafood. Roast duck, Indian, sushi..Think I tried just about everything! Desserts to die for as you would expect
So a marathon session from 12 to 3, I almost had to be wheeled out.
Pricey at 118+++ per head but terrific value if you are a drinker and plan to make it an occassion. Not so, if you are a t-total or on a diet!
Interesting point though, my wife is Singaporean Chinese and she was one of only a handful. Singaporean buffet monsters where are you! |

| Easter Brunch
This place has had it's fair share of critics of late but as the Missus booked it for a family brunch, was open to giving it a fair crack of the whip. Easter Brunch was priced at 48+++ for adults so it's a cheap option compared to the hotels in town. We were greated by a giant rabbit and tray of goodies (gratis) and shown straight to our table. First impressions are good, the staff were attentive and helpful. Mind you we were the only people there at noon...
Buffet is a good spread of salads, seafoods, meats of all varieties, a superb roast beef, great selection of veggies but a reasonably mean sweet selection. However at these prices, you can't complain. The food was great, service was good, free pics with the rabbit and the mother in law was happy. You can't say fairer than that! |

| Bring sandwiches....
Always liked this place, great indonesian food and some terrific signature dishes such as the beef with lotus leaf and bbq squid. Last night was the first time there for a couple of years and I must say the standards have fallen a fair bit. Gone are the traditional uniforms and in come the shorts and slippers.
OK fair enough..it is Boat Quay after all and we all know how that place is a shadow of it's former self anyway. We Ordered a range of dishes: beef and lotus, (not bad) Grilled fish (nice) Veggies and the squid. However when the food arrived, we saw the problem..there just isn't enough of it. S$28 for a fish, which frankly should have been thrown back...it was no more than 7" long and not the fattest fish around. The beef was just enough for two..just. The Squid was a joke...Didn't even cover half the plate and, get this, this was a double portion!!! When i mention this to the waiter, the usual shrug of the shoulders..standard size he mutters...
You can't fault the food for taste and presentation but luckily there is a McD's nearby too top up!!
Like I said, standards have fallen... |

Management Response: 22 Oct 2008
Dear David,
We are the management from House of Sundanese Food.
We feel so bad to know that you, as our valued customer, had encountered a not so pleasant dining experience.
We sincerely invite you to contact us at 63399974 as we may need your help to understand some more about your case to clarify some of our doubts:
1. whether there are some staff do not follow our rule? Though we change the uniform to another batik design, the short and slipper are definitely not allowed.
2. The small size fish you mentioned: the live fish we ordered from our supplier are at the standard size which is around 550 gm per piece and any fish smaller than that will be rejected. Whether the kitchen staff did not follow our request to reject the small fish?
3. other portion issues.
We appreciate your help if you could contact us so that we can improve ourselves.
Best regards,
Charlie Wan
Manager

| It's a winner
Aussie steaks and beer? Can't really beat that combination right?
Popped down last night after hearing a mate mention this new place. A little off the beaten track but very central.
First impressions were a little disappointing; it's essentially a bar with a few bare tables at the back. Mrs was already cursing me under her breath. "This isn’t what I expected" she hissed.
Ooops..ok carry on I thought. A great selection of Aussie beers on show, mostly in bottles, Bright Beer, Cascade etc as well as VB on tap. A few schooners on VB and we were looking at the menu...great selection of meats here including kangaroo groin, wagyu beef and a range of free range steaks. Also have veggie selections and fish.
I plumped for the 200g sirloin and it came with a choice of sides. Chips and mushrooms were my choice. Mrs A had the Kangaroo Groin and junior had the pork ribs.
Lo and behold, hidden to the eye was a real dining room with white tablecloths’ etc It’s just to the rear and left of the bar. This was more like it.
Full marks to the perfectly tender sirloin and to the long fat chips but the steak was cut a little thin for my taste. Mushrooms come up trumps, too. Kangaroo is a great piece of meat with no cholesterol. This dish was excellent and the pork ribs, whereas the meat didn’t fall of the bone as it should, were superb with a great bbq sauce.
Overall, great service (no service charge) and a delightful setting despite the initial first impressions. Will definitely return! |

10 Mins later..we get a white wine (chardonnay not Sav Blanc as we ordered) and a glass of flat coke lite.

Good luck Muse...!!!! |

| Miserable service...never got as far as the food or drinks!
After waiting 20 mins for nothing at Margeritas, we went to Angelshare.
There is a wedding going on..we ask the waitress: " is there a wedding here? can we still get a seat?" Waitress says she doesnt know and walks off.
We ask someone else..is there a private wedding function inside and can we still get a seat? Waiter says he doesnt know, might still be a seat or two at the bar and walks off.
We go somewhere else...... |
