| Is it REAllie a sTeak House? with Good sErvice etc.?
Its a budget place for steaks. But it doesn't mean their food are fantastic. It was my Mom's birthday, so we've decided to go somewhere near by to have our dinner. So we landed in Jack's place @ Bukit panjang plaza.
It was a nice cozy place, had a really quiet corner to enjoy our dining experience. Jack's place have alot of promotions like some "Set dinner choices" or you can just "top up $9.90 to complete a meal set". I was hungry at that moment, so decided to have a 350g NZ T-Bone. I actually wanted Medium rare for my T-bone but charred on the exterior, but the server doesn't seems to understand and keep telling me if burnt on the exterior doneness will go up to medium. I think Jack's place staff really need to brush up on their knowledge on what is charred on the the exterior and still maintain the doneness of the steak. This is not the ist time that i had my steak charred on the exterior with a medium rare doneness on my steak. In the end, I just had medium for my T-bone. When our mains arrived, as my T-bone was served in a hotplate, pipping hot steak on the plate was so exciting. It was disappointing as my steak was so tough, i had a hard time cutting up my steak and the doneness of my steak was turned to medium well. I wanted to change it, but decided not to as we were rushing for time. I asked a server for some black-pepper corn, she gave me the black-pepper corn grinder, and I grinded some black pepper corn onto my steak. And decided to leave it on the table for later use. To my surprise, she wanted the black-pepper corn grinder back. I asked her why does she need to take it back? She replied b'coz the whole restaurant only have one black-pepper corn grinder. Jack's place you got to be kidding right? One whole big restaurant, only have ONE BLACK-PEPPER CORN GRINDER??? I smiled at her reluctantly and gave her back the Black-pepper corn grinder.
After some time, I and my whole family finished our meals, the waiting staff wasn't attentive. Somehow or rather we have to wave our hands like clown to get their attention to clear our plates. It was around 9pm, they don't seem to be busy, why service was so neglected? In the end, is the manager who came up and clear the plates. Had our desserts and decided to pay the bill. I personally feel that the waiting staff wasn't train properly. The staff was lack of knowledge and attentiveness. I hope the management will take note of that and a must to train up your own servers, so as to improve on the service quality. For the Kitchen in Jack's place, whether it is a good steak house, doneness of the steak does really matter. Especially for T-bone steaks it is not easy to catch the correct doneness of the steak. And just a comment to Jack's place kitchen or managment, steaks shouldn't be place on the hot sizzling plates, it will just cook up your steak more to the well-done side.
