During my PreU days, I was in the service line as a part timer but I remembered doing my homework because I was paid for doing a job so might as well learn something and get paid for it, right?
At the end of the day, its the attitude of the individual. That dude looks like he's working to pay rent i.e. I doubt he's young; more like late 20s to early 30s but with that perpetual frown, I'll say mid 30s. LOL!
Yes, do what the Yanks do. I've never come across bad service, always been greeted with a smile and assurance if my food seems to arrive a little late etc. And the best thing is, they do it so well, it doesn't feel "plastic".
Want to know what Plastic greeting is? Go to G2000 and then you'll hear something like HELLO MADAM and you look around, no one is looking at you but you see the staff staring at the door and you feel like Heck, who's the ventriloquist over here?!
One day I'll pull a fast one and say, "Who said that huh? You better own up ......". LOL!

*LOL* wow, we should actually revert to the u.s style of tipping eh? tip them, only if they are good.
speaking from my experience in retail, service line is a frown-upon jobs. most school leavers have this mentality that only 'losers' go into retail & f&b line.
but in other countries, it's an acquired 'art'. it's respectable & professional...
my guess is, the service staff has this notion: pay me peanuts, you get monkeys!
or maybe he is young, & cannot control his emotions.
if i'm his manager, i would've taken him out of this job & send him for more training: if i cannot change my staff, i'll change my staff.

Hmm..this was one of my favourite buffet places, always thought it was one of the better ones. Used to go there like crazy when they had the UOB one-for-one promo (which incidentally is still on until Jun). Hmm..I shall reconsider my choices perhaps..
