| My craving away from home
Yesterday was the only day my beef ramen soup was warm. Perhaps I was there late as it was near closing time. Everything came super fast, even the California Maki; correction it came instantly.
Other than that, the consistency has always been there but I would say that the branch at Takashimaya was a tad better.
My ritual is simple: Beef Ramen without even looking at the menu.
I've tried the Crayfish and the Seafood Ramen but nothing beats the BR. |

| Nothing to rave about
I saw a short queue so decided to try out this place which everyone has been talking about.
Service was good and attentive. Ordered a tenderloin medium rare and the doness was right. The mushroom sauce that came with it didn't wash down well. I think they used a cheap type of mushroom as opposed to the button mushroom so there was this bad after taste.
I did not get a full slab of steak but two "rumps" instead so that further dampened my appetite.
My verdict? Not worth queuing as I have had better though it may be a bit pricier.
The seats are too cramped and the person sitting at the table next to me, knocked me elbow to elbow when we were both eating so that is how close the tables are. |

| Not as Italian as it can be.
I'm bad at remembering names but I had the seafood pasta for two which is good but Modestos' is better. I also had their garlic focc bread, seafood soup and tiramisu.
Tiramisu is pretty run-off-the-mill. I had better in the frozen sections of the supermarket uptown.
Garlic focc bread didn't bowl me over and neither did the seafood soup. Overall it's not that bad but the ambience is too noisy and I think Modestos' Italian grub is better (if you're talking about Singapore's standard).
If you want a slightly more authentic Italian taste, then I would suggest Porta Porta at Changi. |

| $0.80 for plain water
The service is attentive cos there was only 1 table and mine but everything else is rock bottom.
The food sucks and I was charged $0.80 unwittingly for plain water and it was reflected as "distilled water" in my bill.
If you want tasty Malay food, go al-fresco and join the others where Spize and Hawa is. You're just paying for the air-con here and eating sucky food. |

| Overated
Had a bottle of wine and the degustation menu.
Ambience = too dim, overated
Food = so-so, I've had better
Service = rather irritating, they were trying to mouth off whatever was on my plate; I'd rather engage in a conversation with my partner than having to stop ever so often and hear what they have to say.
A place to propose, for that romantic evening? Not on my list. |

| I'll be back.
Was here after work and we went for the buffet at $20.99+++.
We had 18 dishes between us as we couldn't decide which dish to choose so we ordered everything and finished it all too. My only grouse is the Tom Yum soup. It was a bit too sweet for my liking and red. I prefer the clear ones.
The other dishes were quite good. Variety is spread and you get items like chilli kangkong, kailan, fried tofu with oyster sauce, chicken satay, minced chicken, sweet and sour prawns, crab claw (don't expect sri lankan crabs), thai fishcake, fish fillet with some sauce, fish maw soup, lemongrass chicken (this one is good), thai green curry, beef curry and some others I can't remember.
Good for a full meal after a hard day work in the office. I'll be back. |

| One of the better spread of buffets in a while.
It costs about $68+++ so it will set you back to about $80 per pax.
I would say that the spread is good and they have a wide variety i.e the Indian/Malay section (murtabak, satay, curry, naan etc), Chinese (chicken rice, soupy noodles and others which I can't remember), Italian (pizza, lasagne), roast beef and your "usual international spread".
Sorry, I can't remember off hand because when it comes to buffet, I only whack the sashimi/seafood section. The oysters were fresh and so were the sashimi.
Seafood/sashimi section: Oysters, mussels, prawns, scallop, salmon, tuna, swordfish, squid, octopus.
I didn't have much space for the desserts but the tiramisu and ice cream definately made my day.
There's chilli crab on the spread too but don't expect Sri Lankan-Jumbo seafood style. It was more down-to-earth tasting i.e. Norwegian crabs in sweet chilli.
I'll definately be back. |

| Novelty and variety is a plus but not value for $$$.
Was here last night so I missed the Q but I don't get it why must SOME ladies be so particular about where they sit. I'm a lady myself but like HELLO! Make up your mind where you want to SIT, if they say that section is closed then sit somewhere else, STOP INSISTING, it's not a BIG DEAL! It's not like there will be some performance of some sort and isn't the"view of your bf/husband's face" good enough?
So like anyway, I had to wait a good 5 minutes because she couldn't make up her mind. Nonetheless, I have mixed feelings about this place. I like it for the sentimental reasons (when it was at The Heeren, reminded me of my younger days)and the variety but taste is sorely lacking in this Department, at least for some items.
Yes, the size of the rosti has shrunk considerably (law of inflation) and almost bland (remember to pepper it with salt). It didn't use to be crispy like it used to be so I guess you have to tell them that you want it that way and they'll probably do it for you, probably.
The Spanish Paella suxs big time. The seafood was not fresh and in general taste horrible; just don't wannna describe the taste lest I technicolor yawn my lunch.
The half roasted chicken was alright together with the crepes, pasta and bread.
Rip offs are the drinks, I paid $7 for a bottle of Riveralla (rather prunish taste). But if you have a lotta money then no harm eating here :) |

| Decent, affordable Italian food
I've been to the branch at Orchard Parade countless of times and I'm proud to say that the quality/standard of the food is consistent even at this branch at Vivo.
If you like thin-crust, wood fired pizza, this is the place to be. Forget about the thick fat doughs, less-than-generous toppings pizzas you get at Pizza Hut. They're a different league altogether.
The must trys are always the
1. Linguine Modesto
2. Pizza margarita
3. Garlic Bread
4. Tiramisu
The Linguine Vongole is decent but only if I want to eat something a little bit lighter as its brothed in white wine sauce. Their cream based pasta like the Cabonara can be a bit "jelak" not because it doesnt taste good but simply because that's how cream pastas are.
Service is alright and my iced water was refilled continuously. No complaints about the place and I'll definately be back for more. |
