oh cheap japanese buffet111 whats more could you ask for. we paid SGD 17 per pax (student's price) for the tea time buffet (230pm - 530pm). quite a steal really for the amount of food we ordered. we'd three HUGEEEE helpings of sashimi. the salmon, maguro, ebi were the more memorable ones. i usually prefer salmon to the rest, but the maguro here was surprisingly so fresh id three helpings. :D
the chawanmushi was nice too, delectable smooth egg custard served PIPPING HOT!! and so were the shishamos. not that much egg roe, but fat enough for us. oh and i did particularly enjoy the softshell handroll. crunchy seaweed generously filled with softshellcrabs.
the only downside to the whole buffet's probably the limited items of the menu. you get to pick off the conveyor belt tho, the different types of sushi. but if youre a fan of sashimi, this place is probably worth the money!
service was prompt, and we'd free flow of softdrinks and a complimentary (HUGE) cup of watermelon juice per person.
im definitely going back for more sashimi!! |

| oooh la la!
ohh you know how the say good things have to be shared? so yes, here you go, gurkha palace. this is a quaint little restaurant serving nepalese and northern indian cuisine in the heart of little india.
a group of us went and ordered: half a tandoori chicken, chicken briyani, palak paneer (spinach and cheese), fish manchurian, cheese naan and an onion naan. plus they give you a free flow of papadum for our appetizer!
the briyani came in a pot that was good for at least 2 to share. the rice was fluffy and richly flavoured. it was filled with huge chunks of mutton and came with a plate of curry. it went well with the palak paneer too, which was green thick and creamy with cubes of cheese in it. the fish manchurian was really quite spicy! but very very very shiokk!
okay this is a place definitely worth visiting! ill be back! with my whole gin gang! for another hearty feast. :) |

| fishy business!
ive been to hooked on two separate occasions. on the first visit, id the poached king salmon. the sauce was light and creamy and complemented the poached salmon rather well. i particularly liked the side dishes, the pan fried linguine and the herb potatoes, both of which were tasty and well done!
on the second visit, i tried the ribs, but i thought they were overly flavoured with the sauce. bbq was it? i cant quite remember. the meat was well done tho and came off the bone quite easily in large chunks.
i guess, hooked is a nice change from the usual fish and co and manhattan fish market, but id suggest sticking with the fish dishes. |

| finally some decent dimsum!
oh, mighty long queue! we'd to queue for about 30-40mins when we went there on a sat afternoon. and mind you, that was at 2pm. so anyway, we had problems fitting 6 of us to a table due to the space constraints.
we ordered a truckload of dim sum, at one time, i think we'd 15 bamboo baskets piled on our table. anyway, the more memorable ones were the typical dimsum dishes. the prawn cheong fun's skin was smooth silky and thin and the prawns were huge and crunchy. makes you wanna slurp everything up with the dark sauce. so were the steamed carrot cakes. the dark sauce made a good accompaniment to it. and the HAR GAOS, oh man, drool inducing. the skin was just the right thickness. great texture when you throw the whole hargao into your mouth. siew mais were decent too. oh and we liked the stocking milk tea too because it had a rich flavour to it.
wasnt too much a fan of the porridge tho, because it turned watery after a while. much prefer the gooey sticky type of porridge.
but overall, great fast service and worth the wait!! |
