excellent pho in the city centre

This place is a perenial favourite among the many university students in Melbourne. Nothing like a hot steaming bowl of pho on a cold winters day.
Excellent tasty broth ( though there's quite alot of MSG too) with slices of beef, and beef tendon balls and glass noodles so yummy. There are also condiments on the side too. basil leaves to add flavour, onions, bean sprouts. It's so yummy that I know of more than 1 student who has packed the stuff and brought it back to their home country to eat!
The spring rolls are also delicious though they kinda lack stuffing.
Oh and don't forget to try and '3 colour' desert!
Mmm.... Just writing this makes me yearn for more!

Must Tries: pho

I also recommend this place for
Type of meal:Lunch, Dinner
Atmosphere:Vibrant/Noisy

on Mekong: excellent pho in the city centre
We used to frequent this little Melbourne icon (when we lived in the city). We called it the "dirty vietnamese restaurant" (when compared to other such vietnamese places on the Swanston Street strip, and after the recent report published in The Age newspaper regarding Mekong's $AUD10,000 fine for poor hygiene practices, unfortunately we are going to find another "dirty" little vietnamese place to eat our pho. Plus, for the past 6 months, I think their servings at Mekong has been getting more and more measily for the price. I've found that even though it is a trip to Footscray, they do a good pho.

on Mekong: excellent pho in the city centre
I always had a pho and finished with 3 colours dessert. Went there many many times when I was studying at the university nearby. I remember when I had to stay at Alfred Hospital for a week, and what I could think of is a bowl of hot pho.. Now that i'm living abroad, your review makes my saliva drooling.. Dunno when I would have a nice bowl of pho again.

The best meal in my life was at
Montiers St Marie in provence. There's a wonderful 1 michelin star restaurant in the mountains. Beautiful scenery in a provencial mansion. The surrounding gardens are full of fresh vegetables and herbs and 20 varieties of tomatos!!
