1 HarbourFront Walk, #03-01 Food Republic VivoCity, Singapore
High Class Food Court/Budget Restaurant

This is the  "Food Republic" outlet where there is a space for dining in.  Patrons of other stalls can also drop by and pick up items and bring to their own seats (elsewhere in the food court) for consumption.  Staff at this outlet also pack dim sum items onto their trolleys and bring them around the entire food court for diners to pick.  Of course there are also customers who drop by and take away.

2 of us dropped by on a Sunday during lunch time.  The place was busy but there were still seats within the restaurant.  The tables could be a bit narrow and were close to each other like a food court.  The dim sum were already made.  As they were not steamed to order, the quality cannot match those of the fine dining restaurants.  They were not cheap either.  Although they were individually larger than those offered at fine dining outlets, there were only 3 pieces per serving.  We had Har Kow ($4) and Siew Mai ($3.50).  The latter was more tasty and they were topped with prawn roe.  The seafood dumpling ($3.50) was the best of the three.  The skin was thinner than those of Har Kow and the taste was nicely balanced with seafood, pork and some vegetables.  Chilli sauce resembled the usual bottled versions from supermarket and they did not have mustard.

We also ordered the sliced fish congee.  At $5.80, we were given a small pot of congee which was more than enough for 2 to share.  The congee was fine grained, tasty, not too salty and the chef was generous with the fish slices.  It sure beats what some Crystal Jade outlets offered at a higher price tag.

On a different occasion, we ordered a serving of chicken steamed with mushroom ($3.50).  It was tasty but we waited a long time for it.  I think it was not among those readily made and therefore had to be prepared specially for us.

Tea was charged at $1 per person.  Water would be charged at 50 cents a glass. No service charge was levied but there was GST.  The staff were actually quite friendly and efficient.  Of course this was not fine dining.  But for those who want to enjoy some reasonably priced Cantonese styled congee, this place could be recommended.
