Good Italian Restaurant (Service Level Can be improved)

I went to Capricci to celebrate a fren's bday. The original reservation was made for 730pm. However, we decided to pop by earlier at 630pm to chill out and to get something to eat first as we were starving. We went there and there was no one in the restaurant. Perhaps 630pm was too early for an Italian dinner?

The lead host led us into the restaurant, passed us the menu, filled our glass with water and left. After going through the menu, we were ready to order. But there was no one around to take our order. I think the host and waiter were busy talking outside! It was pretty disappointing that such a nice looking restaurant had such sloppy service.

We ordered a mushroom soup and prawns pancetta (prawns wrapped with bacon)! The soup was rich and flavorful!!! The prawns were yummy. We ordered 3 pastas - Tagliolini Nero, Tagliolini Cernia and Paccheri. I tasted all the pasta and must say that 3 dishes are delicious and we were all really happy with it. 3 happy diners!!!

Next came the dessert. We ordered the Chocolate Lava Cake and the Cream Caramel. The dessert was good!

The disappointment was that I actually called ard 530pm to inform Capricci that it was a fren's bday and I requested for them to put a candle on the dessert as a surprise for my fren. I was told that it was not a problem and they were happy to throw in a complimentary bday cake! So imagine my surprise when the dessert came. No complimentary bday cake and no candle at all!!!! I decided to keep quiet about it as there is no point in complaining as it will take out the 'surprise' element and I didn't want to spoil the night of celebration!

I would have expected the restaurant to keep tabs on the client's request instead of having us to remind them of such details. It is the little details which will keep the clients happy and coming back!!! However, I must compliment that Massimo was a great chef and he went around mingling with the clients and talking to us!! It was a PR touch!!!

I do sincerely hope that they take feedback about their service into consideration and improve upon it.

Capricci is a great restaurant serving great food and I would love to see it being more 'well-rounded'!!!

@ Massimo: Thank you for responding! It is always positive that the restaurant takes the feedback and takes steps to improve.

BTW, I am writing this blog using my hubby's ID. My name is Sonia. :)

Management Response: 4 Mar 2010 "Mea Culpa" Mr. Yong I took your phone call and made an unforgivable mistake failing to jot down your simple request as our standard procedure states.
For the laziness you have noted at 6-30pm I thank you for the feed back and truly hope that after the warm up our service improved.

I owe you a cake and hope you'll let me serve it to you as soon as possible.

Truly yours
Massimo Aquaro

I find their items so-so, except for the egg tart which I find really, really good.
