Good Food, Right Price

Well, I've never been to Vietnam or tasted authentic Vietnam food... But as compared to the Vietnam restaurants I've been to in SG, this has got to be one of the better ones.

The Ambience was really nice and we got the Sofa Seats. But it was kinda too much of a squeeze for 5 grown men.

The TouFu Salad was yummy. Somehow the Toufu was fried in a batter that tasted alittle like the Japanese style... but the sauce was yummy.

The Veggie Spring rolls... Also another must try dish.

I had the Beef Kuay Tiow Soup and it was one of the best Vietnam Kuay Tiows I have had in SG.

Am not sure about the 2 other dished in the pict which my buddies tried but they had no complaints.
:)

Anyway, like mentioned... they could do some work on their desserts though.

Must Tries: Toufu Salad, Spring Rolls, Beef Kuay Tiow

Great Food @ Great Prices

One of the rare finds in the middle of town.

As mentioned by many, the food there is value for money and tastes great too.

But would sound like a broken record again, so I'm here to share some picts to do justice to the other foodie's review.

Ambience could have gotten a better rating if they did not put us near the kitchen and hear the staff (Who sounded like Chinese nationals) shouting around.
:)

Great Indonesian Food @... well... pretty "high" prices

Guess my friend missed the discount cards.

But the prices were kinda steep for my liking.

But this place is def better than some of the other indo food that I have tried... Rice Table, House of Sudanese etc.

Anyway, the food was served quite fast... but they were not like some places where the food is pre-cooked hours ago and reheated again just before serving.

The chili was nice but they charge for extra plates of chili.

The rendang was one of the better ones I have tried. ($ for $)

But what I was not really happy with was the staff kinda "rushes" you to order...

But there is this old chap who greets customers (Looks like he's the owner of the place) makes customers feel "homely"

Over all... not too bad.

Must Tries: Rendang, Lady's finger, was told that the fish was good but never tried it.

Overrated, Medicore & Bland Tasting food

Like what is mentioned in the title.

IMHO, it's really over rated.

I know of some better Japanese Restaurants @ better prices just further down the road (Near Cashurina Road)

If you are super health conscious, this may be the place for you as almost everything is bland.

Beside that... here's what else I did not like.

The Chawamushi normally comes first... but this place serves it last... am not sure if they forgot my order or what... but this is honestly a first for me.
*Anyway, my sis found a piece of orange skin in there... never seen that done before. Also, the dish tasted like regular steamed egg... @ $6, well... $4.5 after discount.

The Udon we ordered was the one with the Fish cake & Sea Weed and spring onion... I my son did not like greens, I asked them to remove the spring onion but guess what? the Udon came with the Spring Onion... Small thing you may say?? But the 2 slices of fish cake and sea weed were not there too... Also, the noodles tasted like they were over cooked and frozen...

Look @ the sushi... look @ the raw stuff... does that portion look normal? The portion is too..... stingy.

If you did not notice, the Tempura was under cooked.

The Suki Yaki was pathetic.
- The meat was tough
- Too lean, little or no fat
- The dish was supposed to be pipping hot... but this was relatively warm only... (Coldest Suki Yaki I have ever had)
- I am not sure about this... but I actually found some Kang Kong in the pot... please can someone tell me is this is normal??

Price... some were relatively cheap... but some were over priced...

Service was... 1 word, Unsatisfactory.
*I am not too choosy with service... (See my other reviews) but the service of this place was relatively disappointing.

Great Ramen & Cold Noodles

It's one of my fave joints for Authentic Char Siew Ramen & my wife's fave cold noodles.

Well, according to the "poster" the soup is "Double boiled" (I think) for about 12 - 24 hrs with bones.

Anyway, I simply love the soup. The Char Siew is also so moist and yummy.

See the pict... Alex, I think the owner heard you. See the pict... the pict only shows half the original (Coz I ate the other half.

Anyway, the cold noodles were also so yummy too.

The noodles were not too soggy / too hard, just the way that I like it.

Soup & gravy is not too salty, unlike some other places...

For $12, it's really quite value for money.
+ another $2 for a bigger portion of noodles (Which even a guy my size cannot really finish)
*I'm about 1.8m & about 90++kg. (Go imagine)

Honestly, I have been there quite a number of times but have never been turned down by the waitress before.

Good food, Good Price, but damn... it's cramp there...

Love the food, love the price... But damn... it's sometimes easier to get a seat in a crowded MRT than to get parking there. Even after you have managed to get a car park, you'd be surprised to see how close the seats are to each other.

But what the hell... I dun mind, cos the people's friendly there.

The CPF aka Crab, Prawn & Fish in a claypot is great.
The fish head steam boat is wonderful.
Prawn paste chicken is super.
Baby Squid was yummy.

Well, look @ the picts, they are as yummy as they look.

They have lots of staff to serve, so min on waiting time for service... Unless you are waiting for a table.

Most importantly, @ the right price too.

Must Tries: Steam boat, Claypot CPF, See Picts.

Good ambience but the chief had some disgusting habit!!!

I met up with a old friend there today and the place looked really classy.

Nice chairs, nice waiters, nice decors etc.

The presentation was great etc.

Usually, I would share some pict of the food but this will be an exception. Coz... Everything was quite perfect that dinner till I went to the toilet and on my way there, I passed by the Kitchen. Then I saw the Chief (I shall not name him) took a lick off the syrup dispenser. It looked like he was either "cleaning" it, or "done" with it.

Either ways, I was felt quite sick after that.

But, to be fair, the Ambience was great and so was the service staff.

Alittle too expensive TeoChew Porridge

IMHO, it was alittle, just a little over priced.

But the food was pretty good as mentioned by the other fellow reviewers.

See the picts for some of my preferred dishes.

But I don't really see what is the big deal about the crayfish though.
The Yam paste was quite nice, not too sweet... but I pref the one @ LeeDo Restaurant.

But the good was out standing. Too bad there wasn't really enough to go around, portion was alittle too... small

But the steamed promfet was great... but as mentioned by the other reviewer... kinda small... must be the inflation.

Must Tries: Goose, steamed promfet

Decent food but @ a really high price

The service wasn't great I must say but decent enough to have a meal.
But @ the price that they are charging, that's the reason for the 6 rating.

Perhaps I was lucky as my table was served by @ least 2 waitresses on Sat. There was some waiting time but still it was a reasonable wait.

It was my FIL's bday and we had ordered the set.

The cold dish was pretty decent, but I loved the egg with shark's fin.
I was pretty impressed with sharks fin soup... see pict. But they could work on the soup.
The prawns was yummy... *I hate seafood which is not fresh... when I say fresh, I mean the seafood was still jumping around less than 1 hour ago.
Couldn't say much about the deep friend soon hock... IMHO all deep fried fish taste the same, but the sauce was great.

Overall comment, the food was fresh I must say and pretty decent. But the portions was quite disappointing though.

Also, the price... IMHO, for that amount of money.. I'd expect the portions to be bigger and of a better quality.

For the set dinner that we had they even threw in a suckling pig. *Which we topped up another $15 to have it fried with ginger and spring onion. It was yummy!

Must Tries: Prawns

Good food but could be better

I have to admit, this place was better than it looked.
Even though the "presentation" looked like a typical Zhi Char store... almost none...
*To be fair... for some of the dishes only.

F&B
Well, the thing is... the expectation is usually set by the pictures from the menu.
But like what I mentioned earlier... this place is one of the places where the food did not exactly look anything like the one in the picture.
BUT......
The Food tastes better than it looks, I must say.

Hokkien Noodles a simple dish... but if you notice, most of the place that cooks it... leaves a very "noodily" / "Ghee" taste. This is especially true from Hokkien Noodles... dunno why... But anyway, this place managed to get rid of that taste.

The Chicken Curry rice, go for it if you like it spicy. Many places make it spicy to cover up the lack of the real "curry taste" but this was not true with this place. Pour it over the rice and it tastes quite heavenly if you like it "spicy"
*But I did wished their rice was more well cooked... slightly "lumpy" / sticky... Not exactly they kinda rice that goes very well with curry.

The drinks that was served was the home made "cooling" drinks / 凉茶. Super with the food.

The side dishes.
One of the better PieTees that I had. Even better than the ones my wife make.
The Spring Roll was alittle too... soggy... but yummy none the less.
The Wu Tau Ko was great too...

Overall,
Not exactly like the one that my granny used to make... (that's their "motto" anyway) Coz my granny is a super cook... but quite close / closer than many other stores out there.

Ambience
Not too bad but the place is kinda small, so cannot really sit alot of people. But one thing that was quite irritating was the smoke from the kitchen could be "smelled" from the sitting area (was not too bad though). Coz the cooker hood they were using were not of those industrial type, was the home kitchen type. The ventilation of this "new" wing of Centerpoint need work.

Value
Most of the people I was with ordered the set menu which was quite a good value.
1 drink, 1 side dish & 1 main course.
Damage? Aprox 15-18 / pax

Service
Most of the staff if not all are from PRC.
Their service was rather impressive I must say.

Must Tries: The set linches
