| Worth the hype
I visited Forlino with fairly high expectations, having heard good things about the restaurant from various people. It did not disappoint.
As with its sister restaurant Il Lido, the view at Forlino is lovely. This is definitely a place to pak tor, especially if you're seated at one of the tables by the window.
The food was of a generally high standard. Even the home made foccacia was tasty enough to be eaten on its own, without butter/olive oil. My only comments are that the culatello ham (that's high-class parma ham, apparently) was a little salty on its own, with only a few slices of fruit to go with it. But I guess that's where the foccacia comes in. Also, the venison stew was tasty, but reminded me of airline food. Not necessarily in a bad way- as in, it was little chunks of meat and some veggies served in a brown gravy. Definitely tasty, and something I would be terribly pleased to be served on a flight, but this really was the comparison that came to my mind at the restaurant.
No surprises here, my favourite dish was a dessert, the pear with ice cream. It's pretty common to have alcohol-soaked fruit these days, but what I liked about Forlino's version was that the alcohol didn't drown out the taste the pear itself, which was yummy.
Service was very attentive. You can tell that extra effort has been made to train the staff, and they are all very polite and efficient. |
