| 2nd visit
Was my 2nd visit yesterday for dinner as my boyfriend craved for good pizza again. He's always comparing food around the world and as usual he says sometimes even in North Italy, you can't even find pizza like this at Casa Verde.
Food & Beverage:
1. Mozarella with Tomato - Lightly and not overly dripped with olive and vinegar. Nice vinegar is it's not heavy or too sour. However, could do with a little more touch in cutting skill as the cheese & tomato were not very well cut in different thickness
2. Crostinos - Order the hot ones and they come in 3 typs x 2 each, they are delicious. I will never touch pork cos of it's "porky" taste unless processed but this is nice, the scallop ones are so so as I find the scallops are rather mushy. The best was with porcini mushrooms, smooth and full of flavor
3. Pumpkin soup with crab meat - Interesting combination. Very strong seafood taste but still a nice hint of sweetness from the pumpkin.
4. Prosciutto with Porcini Pizza - We requested for the mushroom to be changed into porcini. Yummy, the pizza has a good mixed with the salty ham and strong taste of porcini
5. Quattro Stagioni Pizza - My all time favourite pizza. It simply means 4 season in Italian. Ingredients are Olives, Ham, Artichoke & Mushrooms divided in quarters each instead of mixing it together. Come to think of it now, I do not recall seeing olives on it..hmm strange. Nevertheless, it was still good cos of it's thin base which is moist from the ingredients and crispy at the side.
6. Italian wine with the 1st word "Michele" on it because I simply can't remember...It was light, slightly fruity. Good on a evening where it's not that hot nor cooling. Btw I think wine is on 25% off till end of Nov
Ambience:
It was a Tuesday night, we got there about 9pm. Only about 5 tables of diners (in/out) and 2 tables of people unwinding, sipping wine. Probably it's way after typical dinner time that's why not that crowded anymore. Sit outdoor so we could hear the waterfall nearby which was soothing. Where we were wasn't exactly a romantic spot as it was bright, at least we could see what we were eating
Value:
Way better valued than any pizza place I've been in Singapore at a green lushy quiet setting with no rushing crowds or fast moving cars or ear deafening horns
Service:
The boy who served us tried his best to provide good service. Seems nervous because everytime we ask for something special he'll head off to ask his Manager immediately. For anybody who's experience, they'll take all orders 1st and get back later. His command of English was rather poor but still understandable. There was another lady, I would assume she's Vietnamese or Thai etc was always smily and we can tell that she has alot of experiences. The other waiter who helped to put the wine glasses on our table was weird, he didn't say a word, shoved the glass infront of my face as a signal for he's setting up the wine glasses for us, rather rude of him.
I think most staff should be trained again on service and pronounciation etc. |

| DOZO - You can say that again!!
After reading all the reviews, I decided to head down. Call on Saturday about 5pm, was told by Annie that they are fully booked, however I asked her to try and she said will get back in 30min. Bravo Annie, she did and got us a table at 8.30pm..good timing :)
From the courses, I choose:
1st Dish - Done by the chef, smoked salmon, pan-fried scallop and foie gras..so good, I see stars
2nd Dish - Fresh sashimi...fresh, sweet...I see the sea
3rd Dish - Soup of Mushroom and Truffle...I was taught how to eat it and it was heaven...the soup is so flavoursome unlike the others where it's nice because they added alot of salt etc...I see the forest
4th Dish - Beef on Stone...like hotstone but way less smoky. Good grade beef and was told best eaten medium cooked. It was so soft, tender, juicy and Moooooooo goodness...I can see the greener pasture
5th Dish - Chocolate cake...am never a big fan & will always skip, but this was different. It wasn't sickeningly rich or sweet that after a mouthful you are done. Went well with the vanilla ice-cream...I see winter
6th Dish - Grapefruit Tea....nice flavor, very different
My boyfriend had:
1st Dish - Same as me
2nd Dish - Tempura...oh my it comes with a full soft-shell crab, can you beat that? The dip was different, it was sesame dip
3rd Dish - Seafood Bisque...the waiter was funny, he told my boyfriend not to follow suit cos he told me that I could put the truffle in my mouth, my boyfriend's plate had a claw only for decoration
4th Dish - Prawn Risotto...2 huge prawns, grilled to perfection and the risotto was mild and easy on the palate
5th Dish - Creme Brulee ala Green Tea...creamy and makes you want more. Good for people with low sugar tolerance...like me
6th Dish - Can't recall but he had a tea with fruits he ate from the teapot...how classy
Ambience - Romantic, classy. We sat besides the X'mas tree which felt festive. The only question my boyfriend asked which I can't answer "why did they let the pipes be exposed on the ceiling" errrr....sorry I am not the owner..no comment
Value - More than just value, it was an experience that you will never forget.
Service - Was already impressed by Annie over the phone. The servers are professional and witty. Very approachable. Good service. Even thou' there were lotsa diners, food were served pretty fast.
Verdict - They do not call this the best Japanese Restaurant for nothing despite it not being authetic Japanese cuisine. In fact they surpassed many fusion restaurants. My boyfriend says to date this is the best restaurant he's ever been in Singapore.
I remember 1 reviewer call it a high-class version of Tao. I can't agree enough but even the ingredients are the best and really fresh therefore thumbs and toes up! |

| Another TL Disappointment
Was at Novena with best friend M and was looking for some dinner and settle at LBJ.
F&B: We ordered the "8 Teasure Tea" aka "Ba Bao Cha", nice we both like it. The rest of the food were:
1. Beef Tenderloin - I wanted it for the collagen. As it was a side dish, it was colder and harder than it's braised version. Luckily it was less than 6 pieces as I was getting "sick" of it
2. Chives & Pork Dumpling - As it is poached, it's more healthy. Generous serving of internal filling, at the same time the skin is too thick. We ended up eating only the fillings
3. Xiao Long Bao - Wasn't juicy like the others I had tried. Meat was pretty bland too
4. Yu Xiang Jie Zhi - Egg plants are cooked in bean paste sauce and stewed with other vegetables like black fungus and cucumber. Nicest of the lot but I guessed most unhealthy as it was swimming in oil
Ambience: Nothing to rave about at all...
Value: Disappointed
Service: Not tat easy to get their attention even thou' it was barely packed
Verdict: Unless necessary, I will avoid going there |

| Nice Try....I like it
Reason: My bf wanted some nice steak and I am sick of heading to town the whole time and after reading the reviews, decided to head somewhere very near to us.
We called earlier to make a reservation and gotten a seat which we chose just infront of the kitched but next to the indoor pool/karaoke area as we didn't wanna be in the middle of everybody.
Place: It was quite a hideout with nothing much except a huge signboard of the chinese restaurant infront. The bar & grill is just beside it. Not a big place, small but still spacious. Not your typical fanciful bar & grill place.
Only outdoor area and we were told we can smoke at any table so we were happy.
Service: Didn't really had a hard time getting attention even thou' it was packed on a Wed night. The diners were in constant flow.
Staff: One thing that kinda threw us back was the lack of hygiene of staff in the kitchen area. 1 was scratching his head with his hands, no gloves...If not wrong he was cooking as well.
Food: Didn't wanna get into the "Eyes bigger than stomach" syndrome again therefore I took charge of ordering. Got us the steak and Ribs to share.
We asked the steak to be divided into halves to be cooked in rare & medium rare. They agreed whoo hoo great.
Steak: Great marinate, thick and juicy. Worth the money
Ribs: Nice marinate but was expected those "melt in you mouth" kinda meat but was still happy with it.
He ordered 2 tiger mugs while I just had plain water due to my diet hehe. On top of that he loves the baked potato so much that he had another serving.
Ambience: If not for the Karaoke, it will be nicer.
Verdict: It was a nice experience with good food. Will definately go back again and bring along some good friends. Oh did I mention their last order is 11pm which takes away the normal rushing hours to the restaurant?? I just hope that this time round, the hygiene of the kitchen staff is better. |

| Good from Far...Far From Good
Was in Chinatown and wanted to get away from the bustling of it all. Saw this from the side road and decided it looks good enough.
We ordered:
1. Kobe Beef Cubes - Oily but was tasty, not too dry.
2. Mushroom with Vegetable - It was different and I like it. Most restaurant have Chinese spinach which leaves a strange feeling in your mouth. This comes with asparagus which was nicely pouched with good texture.
3. 3 Cup Chicken aka San Bei Ji - Oily but reasonably good. Taste of basil was a tad strong but ok once you are used to it.
4. Crispy Noodles aka San Mee with Seafood - Quite bland but was acceptable.
Service - It wasn't packed and we were served by different waitress. The person who came to take our order was fine. We ordered a small white wine to share. The waitress who came with the wine and 2 glasses started pouring into my boyfriend's glass and to our amazement, she didn't stopped and poured it to the brim. We were too shocked to stop her earlier. I looked at her and told her errr we indicated the wine was to share and why should there be 2 glasses then? She look flustered and walked away apologising, we ended up pouring the other half of the wine into my glass myself. We were really speechless. She was scolded by the head waitress who told her she should have asked instead but no apologies was offered by the head waitress.
Overall Expereience - Food was overpriced, service sucks |

| Big A** Burger
Walked past it once with my boyfriend & we were toying with the idea of eatihg their monster burger and yesterday we had a chance.
Service was pretty good and all staff had a smile on their face. We were served by a China waitress, her understanding of English wasn't that strong but she tried her best, always with a smile on her face and was a genuine smile.
We ordered:
1. Freedom Fries - It came pipping hot and was good. Salt wasn't distributing properly and I ended up with a good few mouthful of really salty ones.
2. Ribs - Huge and with lotsa BBQ sauce, probably too much cos there were barely anything meat from the ribs even though it looks huge. Potato wedges that came along was yummy, the greens look pathetic thou.
3. Big A** Burger - It was an idea turned reality. When it came we nearly fainted hahaha, more like me :) The burger was more for a group of 4. The bread was way too much, more than the patty. There was barely any garnishing in the burger and the patty if eaten without the bun is too salty but if you were to eat it with the buns, it will be overwhelming.
4. Tiger Beer - It was genuine APB stuff
Overall Experience - Wasn't expecting anything good and nothing good came out of it too. If you are not choosy and looking for a nice relaxing place for playing pool, they have a pool table there. If you are into people watching, grab the table near to the walk way and you'll be intrigued at the passerbys. |

Got the most interesting cake from Deste for my best friend's birthday. Had wasabi in your cake before? Neither have I so we decided to brave for it & woah...wonderful caking experience for me, a person who's not into cakes and desserts etc and having my vote for it is rare.
Staff need to be more knowledge as they really have a bad way of describing what's in the cake. |

Was in Bugis area to catch a movie so dinner has to be nearby. Was kinda craving for Thai so we headed to "Siam Kitchen" which sounded good.
Ordered for me - Pad Thai in Vermicelli
Verdict - Boring, tasteless, plain. The vermicelli was over cooked with the noodles lumpy, and sticky and soggy. Where were the good side condiment that is supposed to come along like the typical pad thai? No chili flakes either and came with only 2 pieces of fish and squid each.
Ordered for him - Olive Rice
Verdict - Boring but edible, in fact more condiments than mine
Ordered for us - Deep Fried Prawn with Mango Roll
Verdict - Yummy and doesn't feel too oily but chili sucks! Feels like I am just having normal sauce from the bottles
Ordered for us - Deep Fried Vegetable Spring Roll
Verdict - Normal and same comment for chili
Overall Verdict - What a disappointment honestly. Can't understand how they managed to stay opened. All bad but except that service was prompt. |

| Upmarket Seafood
I find it strange that since it's a upmarket version of what they have in East Coast...WHERE ARE THE AIRCONS??
Ordered:
1. Lobster Salad - Suggesed we take 800g since the head is gonna be used for noodles. Asked for less mayo but still mayo loaded, still sinful even with fruits
2. BBQ Prawns - 4 pieces of it. It was huge and were female prawns due to the bright orange roe around it. Once again left it alone as the mayo is already quite a killer
3. Crab with herbs & fragrant butter - Bf doesn't take spicy stuff so ordered that. Was nice, we liked it
4. Yifu noodles - Cooked with the left over of the lobster, was surprised there's still quite alot of meat left from it. Noodles was nice and springy
5. 4 glasses of French wine
6. 2 bottles of Fuji water
I like it cos it's not overly salted, was light and easy on the stomach. Service was good except for a few waitress who couldn't understand simple instructions in English.
It was an overall ok experience. |

| Meat Fest
My bf is a big meat eater, while vice versa for me..just once in a while. We called in advance to make a reservation for indoor seating as we forsee it to be really humid...psyhic reading for weather after living in Sg for a long time.
Glad we called as there's not much space indoor and the only table available was ours. We sat besides each other therefore facing all diners. Felt like it's our wedding, weird but good fun.
We started off with sausages, and boy I must say the beef ribs are my favourite. I practically ate all meat except slab of pork as I personally find it unappertizing cos most of the time when I see pork it's "grey" like in bah kut teh etc..gross me out.
By the 2nd serving I felt like Ms Piggy but was still enjoying the rest of the meat on my plate. Didn't like the lamb as it was too lamy :) Found the beef steak too cooked cos I love mine truly bloody.
The chilean house red was reasonable, didn't order it by the bottle as we decided to make space for meat..wise decision.
Has cheese platter for dessert. Dont' ask me how I can still manage to squeese cheese in after all these meat...IT'S DIFFERENT KINDA FOOD mind you!!
I think the best part of dinner was discovering someone I see almost everyday wondering "does this man have a job?" actually really have a job!! THou' shan't say who is it but he serves meat ok??
Looks like we'll head back quite soon again :) |
