Lovely Sunday Lunch - albeit busy!

Went for lunch today - note Sunday's are probably not the best day to visit if you are after a nice, peaceful, relaxing lunch - the place was full of families with kids running around. A very nice vibe but not always what you are looking for.

When we sat down we were treated to a nice warm bread basket - always nice.

For entree we shared a prawn & cod dish that was on the specials board. We asked our waiter to describe the dish as we were unsure of the French term. Must have been a breakdown in the communication as it was nothing like expected! I wold describe as a creamy, potato and fish pie. It was very yummy but the texture was not quite to my liking as I was expecting something firmer.

For main I had the pork with potato rosti and port sauce. It was really yummy, the sauce light, delicate but falvoursome. Only complaint was the pork was slightly overcooked and there was only a small portion of rosti for the huge serving of pork.

N's main was the chicken with puff pastry, spinach, mushroom sauce and potato gratin. The portion was huge! Again yummy but the chicken was overcooked.

All in all a lovely lunch, service was fast, efficient and friendly but hopefully next time things won't be so overcooked.

Great BBQ Night!

Great range of BBQ foods available, lots of seafood & meat cooked well and tasty. Particularly liked the cheesy potato, salmon, swordfish & lamb. Good value.

Salads & dessert could be better though.

Lovely Location

This restaurant has a fantastic location tucked away behind Cluny Court. The courtyard has a lovely ambiance and is very romantic. The food is quite good as well so this is a great place to check out!

Starters:
Mushrooms topped with tomato sauce & mozzarella was delicious! A dish that will bring me back for more. The Scallops pan fried in brandy and herbs was nice but the scallops were overcooked which ruined the dish.

Mains:
Ravioli stuffed with spinach & ricotta in a tomato vodka sauce was yummy and tasted just like it should. The spinach pasta with scallops & prawn was quite nice as well.

This is a great little restaurant - perfect for first dates & intimate dinners.

Must Tries: Mushrooms topped with Tomato Sauce & Mozzarella

Fairly Impressed

Went to Red Dot for dinner last night (Wednesday) with friends, and after reading other reviews, was pleasantly surprised and I experienced none of the problems mentioned!

Staff were friendly and attentive, drinks arrived quickly and were correct, water was refilled without even asking and they had no problem accommodating us when we wanted to change tables.

Now to the food, everyone was quite pleased. N enjoyed his Pumpkin lasagne although he thought the portion was a little small. P loved his Taiatelle e fungi and was happy it wasn't too creamy, W had the cod, which looked delicious but came on a ridiculously huge platter for such a small portion (which could have done with a side dish other than tomato). I had the Calzone, which was delicious, my only complaint being it wasn't exactly a calzone and tasted exactly like a pie filled with beef mince, onion and tomato gravy - but still very yummy!

Only other complaint was that all meals came out at different times, with mine being left to very last and N had almost finished his lasagna before I could even start mine!

Other than that, atmosphere was great and the beers were delicious!

Very Impressed

I have read some bad reviews on this web site but have always heard good reports from people I know so I have wanted to try this place out for a while.

The restaurant had a lovely look, very simple but pleasant. Sitting outside at night was very nice. We were greeted with a lovely warm bread basket which was delicous with lots of olive oil and balsamic, YUM! The wine, which was recommended by staff was great and everyone was more than happy with their food.

For appetizers we shared Pollo & Formaggio Bruschetta and N had the Insalata Caprese. Pollo bruschetta was quite nice, formaiagoo was ok and N wasn't quite happy with the mozzarella in his dish (although I think it was similar to most mozzarella i try in Singapore).

Everyone loved their mains and devoured them quickly! The cod got good reports, the lamb shanks looked and tasted devine (and everyone was jealous of P for ordering them) and N enjoyed the scallops wrapped in proscuitto (although the portion was a bit small). My risotto was lovely but a little over-seasoned. The portion was also a bit to large for my liking (but others would definitely disagree).

Service was quite good, with ice water and wine being refilled very frequently. Only complaint was our waitress told us the specials when we arrived but didn't repeat them when the rest of our table arrived.

Best Bread In Singapore!

This is my fav place for breakfast! Very laid back and it's nice sitting by the river reading the paper.

Pretty simple self-service set up. Line up to order, get your own drinks etc. The food is generally brought out promptly and staff are courteous and are able to handle changes to orders and get the right.

My fav is the GHC - Grilled Ham and Cheese Sandwich with Mustard. Very simple but tasty!

This is a no frills place but the food is good quality and at a reasonable price.
