| Authentic Thai
The one running the place definitely is Thai and therefore the dishes are pretty authentic. Tried the tom yum seafood, seafood pad thai, mango salad and red rubies dessert. All the dishes were true to the taste that one would experience if one eats in Bangkok. It's not high end cuisine style; in fact, presentation wise, quite home style, quite unpretentious & simple. But taste wise is probably one of the more authentic ones we can get for a reasonable price in aircon comfort.
The restaurant, like its food, is simply furnished with pictures of the Thai King & Queen on the wall. Also, I must add the parking in this locality can be quite challenging though.
I didn't get to see the bill so my amount spent is an estimate only. |

| Peranakan Mee Siam like Curry Mee
This stall is at a corner within Food Republic on the 5th storey. Thought I'd try the mee siam here. The panels on top of the stall was quite easy to read plus there was a wait staff who would pass you a menu & try to explain what's on it (therefore I put service at 7). I did not sit within the stall's enclosed area but bought my mee siam and sat in another place within the food court as my group wanted to eat other stuff as well. For a foodcourt, it has a pretty good view.
The version of mee siam I tried was more like Malaysia's curry mee except there was an added tanginess. The "soup" or "sauce" was quite thick compared to what we are used to. The beehoon was al dente. Overall, it was not bad but not quite the version I'm used to. The thicker sauce did not quite go with our hot weather, I feel. A bit "jer lak".
I will probably come again to try the other stuff on the menu. If it is the same chain as the Straits Chinese Restaurant that was at UIC Building before, I believe the other nonya dishes should be quite good.

| Convenient meeting place with Jap food
The place is very convenient - in the heart of CBD at Raffles Place. It is at 6 Battery Road's atrium/lobby area which has a very high ceiling - so the ambience is definitely great. If seated at the alfresco area, there is a nice river view.
The Jap food is ok - not the the greatest, not the worst, but ok. It is also within reasonable pricing - $20-30+ for a set lunch that will come with miso soup, salad, rice and the main course.
I ordered the lobster baked with miso on top. Quite tasty and the meat size reasonable - not too big but not that miserly either. Guess with the other sides and rice, the meal can be quite filling - if one is not a big eater. One of lunch companions ordered tempura set - the tempura looked crispy enough. We were full enough to forgo the dessert.
One gripe I have is that the tables were set very closely to one another. So one can eavesdrop quite easily. |

| Claypot crab bee hoon
One wouldn't associate a pie shop with crab bee hoon. But whyever they created something different, I don't know. What I do know is that it is delicious and one can get a whole crab in it. They used the mud crabs rather than Sri Lankan crabs.
i've gone there twice for lunch. Each time I had ordered crab bee hoon soup and I would finish all the soup. Didn't get the msg after effect like tightening of the cheeks and jaws etc... so I dare say the soup's sweetness came from real stock and from the crab. Some of my lunch companions tried the dry version which was more like pepper crab bee hoon. There was no bad opinion.
Call in advance and ask for the courtyard seats - covered courtyard with high ceilings - very conducive and very nice ambience - and also mention that you would like to order crab bee hoon and they will set aside the crabs for you...esp if you have a big group.
The only minus point I feel is that having crab for lunch is kind of messy and time consuming. So make sure that one is not in a hurry, otherwise, it will be difficult to enjoy the sweetness of the crab and soup. |

| More fun dining than fine dining
Everyone sits around a counter (there are 3 or 4 counters in all & each counter sits about 20 people) and watch the cooks cook.
We ordered various kinds of meats, seafood and veggies to share. I particularly liked the seafood like the big-eye fish, snow/king crab legs and veggies like brinjals and sweet potato. The beef was juicy enough but a bit chewy. Prawns are the big & dear variety - but 'cos they are big doesn't mean they are the best; they tend to be a bit hard chewy instead of soft succulent when bbq'd.
It was an interesting experience as one can watch how the chefs (who seemed to squat there all night), pierced the meats with the skewers, cooked them, cut them up and then place the pieces on the plates, put them on a long spatula and pass them to you.
On the night we went, the staff & cooks did a short cheer/ditty (in Japanese) and clap. Later we understand that it was to thank the guests for their support as it was full house that night.
We ended the dinner with a steamed rice topped with salmon chunks. Tasted good and fills up the tummy in case one hadn't had enough.
It's a fun place to go with friends and I'll probably go there again if someone else is picking up the tab. Oh..one more thing..be warned.. expect to smell like a chimney when you leave. |

| Soft and succulent beef cheeks
Had dinner here and the wait staff recommended beef cheeks. Very good recommendation indeed! Its price was about $35 on the menu-for 2 pieces of beef cheeks on a bed of risotto. Each piece is about 2x2x1 inches cooked just right though I don't remember they had asked if I would like it medium or well or whatever.
Tried the appetisers too - not impressive. (1) Cumin crabcake - I felt that the spices sought of took away the sweet natural taste of the crabmeat...so it tasted more like indian dhal with texture of crabmeat. (2)softshell crab, deepfried with batter - too much batter. don't feel so much crab though the sauce is quite interesting - a kind of sweet sour taste. (3) tomato cappaccio - sourish.
My rating - I will probably go if someone foots the bill again. I think per head including drinks, an appetiser & main course, it could come up to $80-$100 per head. Quite dear for an average working person. The ambience is great esp when Marina Sands completes next year. |

| Great food and T3 absorbs GST!
WEll I believe since this is a chain restaurant, its pricing should be more or less the same throughout S'pore. WEll, if T3 absorbs GST, one actually pays less! However, the last time we visited in August, those who bring along kids gets a discount of 20% straightaway. Great deal!
ok ok this is a food review:
took the 3pax set menu but added extra rice. It was more than enough to eat for 3+2kids. The 10wonder duck is absolutely fabulous -yum. We order Dong Por pork instead of mongolian porkrib and it was a great choice - melt in the mouth 3-layer pork without feeling the greasiness from the fat. There was also stirfry fish slices which was great in its sauce. Veggie is baby kailan - normal but still good. Daily soup was lotus root - ok, lotus not cooked long enough so still crunchy; if soup is boiled for 3hrs or longer, the lotus root should be soft to the bite and not crunchy hard. Hope you know what I mean.
Service was generally good- not absolutely attentive but if one waves wildly, it should definitely catch somebody's eyes. |

| Good food served quick
Not much time for lunch but yet need a place that can seat many in town? Well, in a prominent corner of The Sail@ Marina is Harry's Bar that serves pub lunches. It wasn't crowded both times that I went and after ordering, the food arrived reasonably fast.
These are mainly western dishes. They also have a daily lunch special that I ordered both times I visited - on the last occasion, it was chicken maryland. The previous occasion, chicken with some peppercorn sauce - quite piquant. The food though not gourmet were generally tasty and service was prompt. Serves water too.
One grouse - it can get noisy if there are too many people in the place. Quite typical of pubs, right? |

| Watch Rock Climbing while you eat
This the place to eat if you would like to catch some action. Get a seat on the balcony with a view of the wall and you could catch some wannabees climbers making their way up the wall. Also one can see far away thru the glass windows of the building to the outside.
Well, the okonomiyakis are quite typical of the rest of the Botejyu chain. Ordered the moonlight oko. The pancake base is a little soft for my taste. I prefer the one at the basement of Orchard Hotel Shopping Arcade.
Also ordered the caesar salad - quite measely - a few pieces of leaves, croutons and sauce. But I must say the rock climbers do distract from the food. There was also a jazz singer at the atrium the Sunday that I visited. Though one cannot see the singer from the balcony, one can hear the singing - which was pretty good. |

| local pub food
have been here twice for lunch and each time, kakis and i ordered local food instead and calamari.
Due to the high turnover, the calamari comes freshly deep fried and crunchy. The fried bee hoon is good too both times. Mee goreng - ok only. Otah - similar to those from Muar. Fried rice- tasty.
better make reservations if arriving way after 12pm and you would like the air-con seats inside. The place is a tad noisy - well, just like a pub. |
