| 1st timers n much more
Situated on L8 of Orchard Central, Ootoya is tucked away in a corner near the end of the corridoor. We came around 4pm - yes, that was our lunch time because I have the worst sleeping habits. I sleep at 5am, when most people wake up for school/work and so, lunch is usually around teatime.
The good thing was that we were the only ones dining there. Their menu consists mostly of fried stuff e.g. chicken/pork cutlets. Each dish comes with an option to make it into a SET MEAL at an additional cost of $2-3. The set meals give you a side (seasoned seaweed) and miso soup.
Another feature of the menu are certain 'ADD ONS' i.e. Hot/Cold Wakame Udon or Soba for $8 on top of your set meal.
Gb had the Chicken Terriyaki set + 1 Wakame Udon while I ordered this Beef Hamburger Set (served on a hotplate) with potato salad, a few piecs of pasta and rice. They were $14 + $8 + $16 respectively, which I felt was quite affordable!
The chicken is very tender. Udon - I still prefer Waraku but the saving grace was the salt so those who don't like salty food, this may be a little bit on the salty side for you. Interestingly, the Udon soup had radish inside, something you don't come across that often. I really liked my beef burger - it was so tender and yes, salty. Ok, upon 10, the salt rating was about 6.5/10 for me which means for others, it's probably 7.5/10.
To end off the meal, we ordered green tea ice cream with red bean in cream milk with sugar syrup. Yes, quite a mouthfull (no pun intended :p) The ice cream was $4.50 - normal price.
Will definitely be going back soon - and the best part of eating at Ootoya is the SHOPPING that can be done at 313 next door esp. the four levels of F21. You'll def. get plenty of walking done for those who hate feeling stuffed after a good meal. The only downside of my trip was the parking @ Central. The car park is a pain and the switching of lifts at L4 can be quite complicated for newcomers, like me.
