| Song Fish Head was too salty
Following in the wake of the high profile article of the rags-to-riches story of the boss, we went to try out one of the "Paradise" chains.
It was New Year's Eve and we thought most people would have opted for Western food. I was not surprised that the restaurant was able to accomodate my booking, this being a sleepy neighbourhood mall and all.
However, I got surprise when I arrived. There was a long queue and in spite of our reservations, we were still made to wait about 10min, that is only if we agreed to sit outside out the patio.
We ordered Winter Melon soup, Coffee ribs, Song Fish Head ( Song Yu Tou) and fried chili asparagus.
The coffee ribs was aromatic and tasty. The meat was tender and slid off the bone easily enough.
The winter melon soup was heavily flavoured by the meat in the soup rather than the winter melon.
Chili asparagus was okay.
The Song Fish head was supposed to be one of the popular dishes there - I saw many people ordering it. Being a teochew and a self-professed bona fide fish head lover, I was a little disappointed. The fish was fresh enough, but the enormous amount of yellow beans meant that it was overwhelmingly salty. I must say I've had much better fish head at a certain hawker center in Chinatown.
All in all, I think the restaurant is average. I still prefer Crystal Jade.
