| Nothing different
This branch of MFM is separated into two sitting areas. Given that it was already past 2 when we visited MFM, there were some empty seats around and we were quickly ushered into the restaurant by a cheery waitress. We had the Seafood Platter for 2 for sharing topped with the meal deal where the soup of the day was Mushroom Soup.
The Mushroom Soup was as delightful as before with mushroom and celery bits in each spoonful scooped. However, the taste seemed a little bland, but that was perhaps because of something saltish I had before the meal. The seafood platter however was a little disappointing as my favourite in the whole platter was the prawn which was terrible today. The prawn was overcooked, didn't taste fresh, hard, rubbery and SMALL. It was very disappointing. The cheese which flowed onto the butter rice was still awesome though and the deep fried calamari, fish and oysters maintained its standard and does not reek of smelly and stale oil which I hope will never come from MFM.
Overall, service was prompt, food was alright and the environment was as per normal. Given that it was weekend, the crowd in MFM was filled with families.

| Nice view but disappointing
It certainly has a nice view, nice ambience and nice location and oh yes, the exquisite chinese furnishing has carefully reflected its name - The China Club. Unfortuately, it doesn't seem to have good service and good food - 2 of the most important standards to shine in the food industry. But nonetheless, its still a highly esteemed place for a meal. Moreover, its not a place where anyone can just ring and reserve a table - you need a membership - though I've no idea how to have one. Still, I must emphasize its a very nice place to bring your guests, especially foreign guests keen on chinese food.
Firstly, the service. A lady in black whom I presume is the manager (will be referred to as the manager here) or a more senior personnel in the service team, was rough and I personally felt, rude. The wait for the food was long and when it came, it all came one after another, leaving you little time to savour the food. Furthermore, the manager who had difficulty accessing all parts of the table squeeze between chairs rudely to serve and stretched to reach a number of us across the table. She did not care if we were eating, talking or whether she was in the way. I found this disturbing for such a supposedly-high-class restaurant as this. It certainly didn't help that she was all glum and stern looking that day.
The order for the table has been placed when the reservation was made so that the client wouldn't have to know the price or go through the hassle of the menu selection. It was also done to shorten the wait for the food. However, none of this was done. The manager had to reconfirm the menu selection and stating the price which the clients embarassingly heard. This was very inconsiderate and certainly not expected of a restaurant like China Club.
Secondly the food, I guess the bad service didn't make the food any more appealing that it might have been. The food was ok, nothing impressive but definitely not on the bad side. The sharks fin soup was more of corn starch, chicken stock with some fins and some other ingredients. The roasted chicken was not too bad while the others didn't leave a lasting impression except for the ala carte 'nian gao' over the Chinese New Year period which was awesome. It was certainly a great dessert and ended the meal with a sweet note.
Perhaps it was peak period and the kitchens were not used to the crowd which caused the drop in standards as the ala carte dishes ordered turned out delicious. I would certainly recommend this place for business lunches, and note that you can actually request for rooms.

| Great food and service
Although I've only been to this place twice in a short span of a 3 weeks and furthermore, over their peak period - Chinese New Year, this place has not disappointed me on both occasions.
We tried two different CNY set lunches as which included yusheng and other dishes like peking duck, fried prawn rolls, a variety of veggies, abalone and fish. The two CNY sets were at two different pricing end and so the disparity in the ingredients used was largely different. As one may say, you pay for every penny you eat. Even the yusheng had significant differences with the more expensive one including lobster sashimi, (apparently) real edible gold flakes and salmon whereas the cheaper set only had salmon.
I must say I particularly enjoyed their peking duck, as with their other Tung Lok stores, it was fantastic! Most of their dishes were delightful and I saw the crowd happily devouring their dimsums during the lunch hour as well.
Overall, the experience was pleasant, the food was beyond satisfying and the service was also great. One thing though, they only Pu-Erh tea and some water chesnut drink on top of the usual cold beverages like juices and soft drinks.
Noble House is situated at Tanjong Pagar, closely located to the shenton/robinson areas and would be a good choice for chinese business lunches especially with their rooms which can accomodate up to 10 people per table. The rooms effectively seperates the crowd from the private luncheon, lowering the noise level which is rather "bustling" in the main eating hall. It is also worthy to note that there appears to be one waiter dedicated to each room taken, and he/she will respect your privacy and appears to keep the sliding doors closed at all times apart from the 'food delivery' times.
As with many Tung Lok restaurants, this is one place that you've to try if you love chinese food and haven't been here! I would certainly be very keen to head back there to try their dim sum!

| Still as awesome!
My impression of this place have not altered since my first TWG experience at RP. Its still as comfortable, friendly and a perfect hideout from the chatter and fast paced Raffles Place just minutes out there.
If you prefer to have the traditional high-tea away from the shopping crowd, quietly sharing precious moments with your buddies, friends, other half... this is probably a much better place than their ION branch. I've even spotted a few local celebrities here on occasions and not once have I seen their staff disrupting their sessions asking for signatures or photos. You can be rest assured that you'll have the privacy and the luxury of having your personal time in this place.
Enjoy your teas and pastries! |

| Yummy!
I queued more than an hour for a table for 2 in this tiny tea boutique. It could have been longer but not every one could wait that long and people dropped out of the queue. The queue doesn't move fast and there's limited seatings.
This is not my first visit to TWG. My first was at their Republic Plaza branch. Although the TWG at ion seemed to adopt the same designs, it uses glass windows/doors to frame itself up nicely but doesn't help the block out the noisy mall music (at times) and chatter coming from the shoppers too. Be prepared for a vibrant and noisy tea boutique!
This restaurant seems slightly more cramp than the RP branch but overall, the standards of the pastries and tea seems to be the same. Once again, I could not get hold of my favourite - Singapore Surprise! Somehow or another, it is always sold out at Ion's TWG. I've tried their cakes, pastries, sandwiches and scones which were all awesome except improvements to the scones can be considered.
I often go for the set where I can choose a pastry and 3 bite-size sandwiches accompanied by the tea of your choice. It fills me up quite nicely and allows me ample time to savour my high tea tai-tai wannabe experience!
The staff were friendly, patient and attentive! Even amidst the crowd, the waiter took time to explain a variety of tea and allowed us to smell some of the selected ones to make a better choice.
TWG's awesome, if only it could have more seating space! yummy! |

My family visited Inagiku some time back for a birthday celebration. It was tucked away with some other Fairmont restaurants. The staff at the entrance were approachable and friendly. We were led into the dark and modern japanese restaurant where spot lights were used to brighten the place. Unfortunately the spot lights and tables were not strategically positioned together and some tables were so bright while the others prevented you from seeing all the details in your food! The light was so bright and dazzling that it affected the mood of one of us with the spot light shining in her face. The waiters didn't seem to know how to handle the situation and advised there was nothing they could do, which was disappointing for a 5-star hotel restaurant. We eventually proposed to move the tables slightly such that the light shines between the two tables which won't affect anyone. This was quite easily done and should have been suggested by the staff earlier on. We were puzzled at the service standards.
Food was generally good and surprising. (Please forive my layman terms as I've forgotten all the fanciful names that were given to all the dishes we ordered.) One dish that remained memorable was the oyster and cheese combination which was awesome! A must try! We also tried other dishes such as the sashimi salad, fried black pork, tempura prawn udon etc. The udon was smooth and tasted quite fresh which is quite a rare find in Singapore! The black pork was mediocre while the sashimi salad was generous.
Overall, the experience was not too bad except for the initial hiccups with the glaring spot lights. The staff although not initiative were friendly and the atmosphere is serene, making it good for business dinners and luncheons or a date. I believe I saw some tucked away rooms which may be suitable for small corporate functions. |

| Good or bad?
I figured that its time that I penned a review on Itacho Sushi, having been there several times in the last few months!
This casual and comfortable restaurant offering sushi counter and normal table seatings. It has a great selection of sushi, sashimi and handroll selection. Don't go expecting a menu full of japanese dishes! Even the rices comes in mini ricebowl portions.
To be honest, I still have my reservations about this place. The standards waver in the extreme ranges - from an extremely disappointing experience to really awesome ones. The first time I visited Itacho, it was propelled by many word-of-mouth recommendations. It was well raved and advertised, especially with its success in Hong Kong. Still, Itacho met my expectations the first time I tried their sushis, sashimis and other dishes. They tasted fresh and yummy and satisfied my sushi cravings. Even the rice tasted much fresher and higher quality than those that runs on the other sushi chains.
However, there were also unpleasant experiences where the food was at the other extreme end - yucks. Most of the unpleasant encounters came from lunch dining. The sushi shrank, the piece of fish on the rice? Well, I didn't know that they served it half the size over lunch time. It wasn't like there were any special discounts on sushis over lunch, or maybe not that I know of. The unagi rice? It was oddly enough, downsized too. To top it off, the sashimi were not fresh! It was definitely not worth it at all!
Given the bad experience at Itacho over the lunch sessions, I decided to steer clear of that place until a friend of mine cajoled me into dinner at Itacho recently again. Surprisingly (or not), it was deliciou! The sizes of the sushi and rice seemed to have gone back up. Everything was as delicious as I remembered prior to my bad experiences!
Perhaps it was a rough patch for the restaurant or maybe, just don't go for lunch? I hope they keep up their food standards and don't degenerate like many other once-so-nice sushi chains. |

| Decide for yourself.
Otto could have done much better. This was the first thought that popped into my head upon finishing the final course of the Set Lunch Menu. To be fair, I've never expected anything out of the extraordinary for a set lunch menu - knowing full well that it is prepared in bulk and perhaps even prepared way beforehand.
This restaurants attempts to contain a fine dining concept with meals delivered for all guests at the same time. However, the waiters mumbles and at times, tremble. Perhaps the plates were too heavy.
Food-wise, there was a house starter - beef cappacio in a spoon - which was alright, a bit of a pleasant surprise but nothing extremely worth raving about. My choice for the day was a salmon starter, asparagus fettucine pasta and a tiramisu. Overall, the taste was slightly bland for the dishes, but the texture from the combination of ingredient choices were great! The tiramisu was whipped nicely but it doesn't seem to contain any coffee liquer. The coffee taste to the tiramisu was not particularly aromatic nor fragrant which could have made it better.
Given that it was from a set lunch menu, the food seemed pretty adequate but not impressive. I have heard good reviews about their seafood soup and beef dishes! I may just step back in to try their alacarte dishes.
By the way, this place is good for a lunch date with your partner or you can choose to book the function rooms to host your business lunches (small groups only, i think).

| OUAM - try their milkshakes!
This little shop is hidden yet crowded!
One of my colleagues recommended trying out their low-fat milkshakes and we never regretted. The ice-creams were smooth while their milkshakes were just nice, making it really easy yet yummy to drink!
There's about 9 flavours in store at the moment, from agent strawberry, vainilla (Vanilla) to other flavours like mocha, rum and raisin, cookies and cream in interesting names.
Although the crowd squeezing into the little shop full of small pieces of furniture coupled with the wait for our ice-creams and drinks was unappealing, the 'desserts' were otherwise! They were simply yummy. Its perfect for a warm day.
There's up to 3 scoop choices and 2 sizes for their milkshake. The mini is around 220ml while the larger one is around 350ml for $3.30 and $5.50 respectively if I didn't remember wrongly.
I think it opens from 11am to 11pm daily and even on Saturdays! Enjoy your milkshakes and hand-made icecreams here before the little sweet shop gets relocated again! |

| Definitely not for the food
Sexy waitresses? I don't think so.
Having read some reviews of this place which labelled this place good for 'people-watching' and 'sexy waitresses', I must say I saw none of it. Perhaps it was just not the right day. My table was served by a male waiter and a female waitress who was dressed casually, plus she didn't look like she was in the best of moods.
The place was certainly packed and yes, the menu showed italian cuisine plus a hidden menu of local delights. Most of us ordered local delights with one or two pastas with the calamari and chicken wings appetizers. The appetizers came in huge plate and was delicious, crispy and didn't taste of 'bad' oil. The main dishes fared average, something like what with some cooking experience may attempt to produce at home. I think they should just concentrate on making their italian food better.
Il Fiore is definitely not one of those restaurants where you head to expecting good food. Its ambience resembles one of those old and out-of-town bars with high noise levels. Perhaps it may be good for small to medium sized group gatherings with a budget.
While you're there, make space for the appetizers! |
