| Aladdin Tea Pot
Had desserts with friends on a lovely evening.
Seated in the al fresco area, with the cool weather, we had fun chatting and chilling out.
We had different desserts but we didn't share. Hence, this review is only about my Bananna Mango Crumble and Earl Grey Tea in the Aladdin Tea Pot, and of course, the service in general.
The Service was friendly, and that was it.
First, they forgot to chill the white wine in the ice bucket before serving it (though the ice bucket was already there). Engaged in our conversation, and deciding on our dessert order, the wine was already poured into our glasses. We realised it too late. So, we kinda have almost room temp white wine for the first round. For the 2nd round, the staff forgot to top our wine. We had to self service. For the 3rd (last round), they somehow remember to do the job.
Then, the desserts came. The Service Crew simply dumped everything on one side of the table that was convenient within his reach. Friend sportingly and light-heartedly said,"No. This is not mine. That is not mine and this is not mine either. Oh, this is not mine too." There were 5 of us, 4 plates of desserts were dumped right infront of this friend whereby none were his order. "It's for all of you to share." claimed the Service Crew. He didn't even bother to find out who order what. By the way, we didn't mentioned anything about sharing our desserts too. Another Service Crew had to come to "help" this staff who is suposedly more senior, in sorting out the order.
My Bananna Mango Crumble was "rather" lovely. It has the right texture, not too sweet and the taste and proportion of the banannas and mango were just right. However,I felt that the wrong mango was being used. The mango in my dessert had just too much fibre in it. They could have use those with smoother flesh, with less fibrous content.
Next - Sugar Cubes. I was first serve with an interesting glass of brown & white sugar cubes with spices in it. The waitress confirmed that the spices were there to prevent ants. But we were more concern with the hygiene factor. The cafe is a place whereby people talk, laugh and some may even sneeze or cough. Serving sugar cubes in a "public glass" without any lid is like inviting saliva or mucus droplets to visit. I assume that the sugar container would be passed around other tables too. Anyhow, the sugar cube glass was a good conversation starter / piece anyway.
A pretty tea cup and saucer set was serve to me next. Then, I realised that I've to wait for another 15mins before my tea pot arrived. When it came, it was tea in a metal teapot. There were loose tea leaves floating in the tea pot. "Quick - make a wish!" said friend, "It's Aldaddin Lamp". Personally, I felt that tea should not be soaked for more than 5mins (with loose leaves swimming freely, I can't get them out the way I would have preferred it). In addition to that, serving tea in a metal container is a personal "no-no" because metal and tea interact. My wish? A pretty and decent porcelain teapot that matches my pretty teacup set. Hence, I've decided, should I ever visit PS Cafe again, I will avoid sugar cubes and tea (unless changes have been made). Otherwise, I'll just stick to cold beverages.
Oh yes...the ice-cream that they serve with the desserts are from Movenpick (as confirmed by the Waitress). It's a good choice coz Movenpick ice-creams are creamy and smooth, yet light on the palate.
Overall, the Ambience is lovely for an evening night out, especially wonderful on a cool evening. A great place to chat and relax with friends. No wonder the crowd, even on a Monday night.
ps. We brought our own wine, can't rmbr the corkage charges. Their steak is at $42. Might as well have a decent steak at The Prime Society instead. We did that the same evening before coming to PS for desserts. |
