| I'll be back!!!
This is a good place to have lunch on working days if you want to get away from the crowd and if your pockets are feeling deeper than usual. Not that it's expensive (it's actually very reasonably priced and very affordable even for a fresh grad like me) but given the alternatives in the area, it's comparatively pricey. Read on!
Ordered an otak ($3.20), ayam panggang (chicken with blue ginger) ($11), chap chye ($9.50) and sotong kunyit ($15.50). For dessert, I had a dessert of the day ($3.50) - pulot hitam with coconut ice cream - and my partner a durian chendol ($4.80).
The otak was pretty bland but the spices and herbs lent it a very aromatic touch. The texture is unlike most other otaks - this one was kinda springy or spongey.
We loved the chicken for its tenderness and well-balanced flavor and polished off every single piece even though we were already so full.
The chap chye was cooked to the right consistency - not too hard and not overcooked. I don't know what was put in it, I don't have a gourmet's tastebuds, but the flavor was rich and sweet (not the sugar kind of sweet!). My partner said they used prawns to flavor it. ???? I'm bad at describing! But this is one chap chye I will gladly eat with just plain rice and nothing else.
The sotong was the right consistency too! It bordered between being undercooked and cooked such that it was not raw, was still soft and had a good bite to it without being rubbery.
The dessert came in rice-bowl portions. Just nice! Because after that good meal, I don't think I'd want to eat too much dessert. And because the dessert is good, not finishing it would be such a waste and disrespect to the chef right??? I didn't really try the durian chendol. Only took a small bite cos my pulot hitam looked too irresistable. The pulot hitam was thick in consistency and the coconut ice cream rich and coconutty almost just like coconut cream itself. (not the same hor. most coconut ice cream is not as rich as coconut cream?)
I like this place! It's quiet, it's dark but not so dark you can't see your food but dark enough to make it cosy. The place is tastefully done up without making diners feel like this was some atas place only fit for the well-dressed/well-heeled. The service staff were warm, friendly and attentive and made tactful amounts of small talk. The food and its portions were well-balanced and the price is reasonable.
I love Blue Ginger and I'm definitely going back again. With different groups of people. Because this is a place I'd like to share with others.

Pookie on Tampopo Restaurant (Liang Court): What a bad day. It wasn't cold but I think one of the best things about eating a bowl of ramen is slurping it up when it's piping hot, and when I finally managed to tuck into it, the noodles were already cooling down. :\ I didn't want to fuss over it and also, don't waste food mah... hehe.
blargh on Tampopo Restaurant (Liang Court): What a bad day. i think you should have told them because of their cockroach your ramen was now cold and asked them if they could replace it.
and if they did, that would have been good!

The best meal in my life was at
home. A wholemeal sandwich, a fruit and a glass of tea or juice! |
| |
I drink only everything, except most alcohol and carbonated drinks. |
| |
My last meal would be English breakfast with hot tea, hot coffee and cold orange juice. |
| |
When I'm not eating I'm
sleeping. |
