7 Ann Siang Hill, #01-00 , Singapore
Chillout on a Sunday afternoon

I first read about this place from Urban Tan Hsueh Yun. I found it on the 2nd attempt. This cafe is not along the main Ann Siang Hill. It's tucked in a small lane which one can easily overlooked.

Once u stepped inside, u're transported to Tokyo Japan during Spring. The cafe setting is one commonly found in the city. Mainly white & mustard as the key colors, the unit is divided into 2 - one selling cakes while the other corner sells nostalgia items found in the 70-80s, except they're more pricey now compared to my younger days where I paid only 20cents for the sharpener.

On the bakery side, there were only 4-5 types of cakes available for selection. I was told that they roll out each type at different times. Guess I was early. The lady manning it was helpful & warm. She was able to recommend me 2 cakes when I requested for something not too sweet - the lychee ginger & peach cream cakes (can't really recall the name of the latter), & she was right. The latter has couple layers of soft fresh cream with a layer of peach jam or something in between, is light & refreshing. The lychee ginger is a tad disappointing - it's top white layer is like hardened beancurd on a cake. The ginger flavor is too strong for me (not a ginger fan) & I can't taste the lychee at all.

I love the ambience. We had Camomile tea with the cakes, just chatting & chilling out. There are limited seatings - total approximately 12, with a table for 4 outside. There's a bicycle with basket, parked just outside by the glass windows. I hope they'll consider serving wine one day.

The "soft fresh cream" is actually coconut mousse & "the layer of peach jam" is actually passionfruit crème & this "peach cream cake" (that is not) is actually called Kinabaru. For the benefit of hgw readers, it's nothing like what you described. The "top white layer" of lychee ginger is a very light & soft lychee mousse, definitely not like a hardened beancurd(?!). Strange though, that you should order something that you don't like? ginger in this case.

I just wanted to stop by and say how much I enjoyed the line "The bar area was disappointedly small".
