| Poor Attempt at Reinvention
I was invited to dine at TWV twice now, because it was supposedly the "it" restaurant at the moment. Both times I've been, both times I've come out disappointed.
The first thing that came to my mind stepping into the restaurant(and many other's I'm sure) is that TWR owners have totally ripped off Mimolette's concept, right down to the rabbits. First glance at the menu and description of their food (french comfort), as well as the Sunday Times write up of Alice in Wonderland concept, everything became like Deja-vu. Even the logo looked familiar. The old church was certainly very nice, and the renovations certainly looked expensive. But the restaurant had as much charm as CHIJMES itself.
So no points in creativity here, it was a total rip-off, copy cat of Mimolette. I'd have to say Mimolette has done a much better job with their less try-hard decor and food presentation.
The lighting for TWV was dim. Food wise, overrated and overpriced, really nothing stood out for me. Acoustic wise, terrible. Service was also unimpressive. With such a large dining hall and such poor lighting, I'm not surprised the waitresses couldnt see us! They really ought to do something about the acoustic and lighting.
This is what we had
Pig trotter terrine - very bland, and jelly like
Feta cheese spinach salad - simple enough, not hard to make
Lobster thermidor - way too creamy - much like a baked crab shell but worse
Sea bass in broth - too bland
Foie Gras meat ball bolognaise - weird. somethings just should not be mixed like this
Mar Bar souffle - messy and cannot taste any mars bar
the baked alaska - I think they tried to reinvent Mimolette's angel food cake but did not succeed
mac and cheese - could not even taste the truffles, we thought it was mushrooms, porcini at best
If you really want to eat French comfort food with old world charm and ambience, I'd stick with the original. |

| Awesome Place
I've been dining at Mimolette at least once a month now and always found my visits there to be very pleasant experience. Their service is good, the staff are keen. Their location is unbeatable. You dont have to worry about parking. What I like about them is the variety. Brunch, Lunch and Dinner are different menus and different types of people going there which is amazing to watch. Recently my friends and I tried the new BBQ on Sundays. We thought it was a wonderful idea. You have a choice to dine outdoors or indoors. The meats and seafood was very well done. The ambience was also very enjoyable for a night out with friends. Its rare to dine among so much folliage, with good music, and good food. I highly recommend it |
