On 12 June 2010, a group of us went to this restaurant under the recommendation of a friend who raved about their perankan dishes. Indeed, all the dishes we tried ayam buah keluak, curry chicken, fish maw soup, kailan, fried chicken, were up to standard & tasty.

We even planned to buy some bak chang back.

However, when the  bill came, the cost was $117++. One of my friends paid up & while waiting for the change, the friend who recommended this place suspected that the bill is wrong, as he had previously ordered similiar dishes which came up to about $50 only.

When the waitor came back with the change, it was not placed in the change holder that all reputable restaurants will present to their guests. Instead, he placed the notes on the table & dropped the loose change into my friend's hand. That gesture is very unprofessional for a good peranakan restaurant like Kim Choo.

When asked to see the bill, we realised that there is one item named as :Miscellaneous $50. We told the waitor that this item is wrong and requested for our correct change back.

This time, upon my friend taking back his change in the change holder, the waitor slammed shut the change holder right in his face & walked off with a toothpick in his mouth.

We asked to see the manager and he apologise profusely, together with the rest of the staff. On the contary, this waitor did not show any sign of apology and spoke to us in a ah beng tone, asking us : HOW WE WANTED TO SETTLE THIS ISSUE? After the other staff persuaded him, we managed to get a "Sorry" out of him.

It is dishearting that Kim Choo, with a long standing reputation for such authentic Peranakan cuisine, did not incalcate the correct service attitude in this particular waiter, and allowed him to serve customers in a sloppish & unreasonable manner. Obviously, we left Kim Choo without buying any bak chang and we will be very reluctant to go back for any more meals.

We lost faith in the dependable service that we have counted on, for the pleasant dining experiences in the past.
